This paper treats the development of a new type of deep draught semisubmersible offshore structural shape that has excellent heave motion response and less down-time. This new type of semisubmersible shape is characterized by heave dampers at each pontoon corner and appropriate column size adjustment to achieve the desired cancellation and resonance motion period. It was found that the final model had efficient workability, based on the wavescatter diagrams for the GoM and North Atlantic ocean, due to less heave motion, although the specific heave response at the 100 year return period wave condition in the North Atlantic was more or less increased.

A silicate carbon star is a carbon star which shows circumstellar silicate dust features. We collect a sample of 44 silicate carbon stars from the literature and investigate the validity of the classification. For some objects, it is uncertain whether the central star is a carbon star. We confirm that 29 objects are verified silicate carbon stars. We classify the confirmed objects into three subclasses based on the evolution phase of the central star. To investigate the effect of the chemical transition phase from O to C, we use the radiative transfer models for the detached silicate dust shells. The spectral energy distributions and the infrared two-color diagrams of the silicate carbon stars are compared with the theoretical model results. For the chemical transition model without considering the effect of a disk, we find that the life time of the silicate feature is about 50 to 400 years depending on the initial dust optical depth.

It is believed that the current census of star clusters in the Milky Way is far from being complete, because of high extinction. Taking advantage of recent wide-field infrared surveys (the WISE as well as 2MASS, UKIDSS GPS, and VVV), we search for new star clusters in the central region of the Milky Way (720 $deg^2$-wide area at |1| < $30^{\circ}$ and |b| < $6^{\circ}$). We find 1840 candidates by visual inspection of the WISE images. The spatial distribution of these candidates show a strong concentration along the Milky Way, showing that most of them belong to the Milky Way. Among them, 26 are probably star clusters, considering their morphology, color-magnitude diagrams, and the degree of central concentration of stars. Eighteen of them appear to be very young in the embedded phase, and six of them are considered to be relatively old, showing a developed red giant branch. Implications of the primary results will be discussed.

This paper discussed the operational principles and characteristics of Voltage-Resonant Type DC-DC Converter of HF-Bridge Inverter Switching Control using A-SCR as switching elements. The characteristics of DC/DC Converter circuits were analyzed using the diagrams of design circuits and dimensionless control variables.

PLC는 실시간 운영체제와 어플리케이션을 이용하여 하드웨어 장치들을 관리하고 제어한다. 하지만 하드웨어 장치를 관리하는 핵심인 실시간 운영체제가 블랙박스화 된 경우 어플리케이션 만을 이용 한 입출력 장치의 테스트 방안이 고려되어야 한다. 본 논문에서는, PLC의 어플리케이션 프로그램인 FBD를 이용한 입출력 장치의 테스트 방안과 원자력 발전소 PLC에 적용한 사례에 대해 기술 한다.

In this paper, to assess and enhance the reliability of Korea High Speed Train, auxiliary power is selected and reliability analysis is carried out. The auxiliary power system is classified into subsystems and functional analysis is conducted. Reliability block diagrams are drawn. and reliability parametric analysis is performed. Analysis results show that the reliability of auxiliary power system depends on critical items. To grow the system reliability, activities have been concentrated on improvement of critical items and the results were successful.

최근 10년 동안의 측광 및 분광관측을 통하여 우리은하 내 구상성단들 중 대부분이 적어도 2개 이상의 항성종족을 갖는다고 밝혀졌다. 현재까지 이루어진 대부분의 구상성단의 항성종족 연구에서는 관측된 색등급도와 항성종족 합성모델 사이에 eye-fitting을 함으로써 항성종족 파라미터, 즉 중원소함량, 나이, 헬륨함량 등을 추정해왔다. 우리는 구상성단의 항성종족을 분석하기 위해 ${\chi}^2$-Minimization에 의거하여 구상성단과 항성종족 합성모델의 Hess Diagram을 비교하고, 수치계산 기법을 도입하여 최적의 파라미터를 추정하는 알고리즘을 개발하였다. 이 연구에서는 가상으로 만든 성단에 대하여 Recovery Test를 수행함으로써 이 알고리즘의 Self-Consistency를 검증하였고, 실제 관측결과를 사용하여 이 연구의 적용 가능성을 조사하였다.

Tree-harvesting worker data of 508 separate worker accidents are analyzed and an exploratory approach taken. The worker accident data cover a sample of five years. The scope of the study was the southeastern United States of America. As might be hypothesized, the chainsaw was the most hazardous type of tree-harvesting equipment. It accounted for 55％ of the tree-harvesting accidents. Most chainsaw accidents resulted in injuries to the lower extremities and were more frequent among younger employees. The probability of one or more chainsaw accidents occurring in any 30-day period was approximately 0.856. Chainsaw accidents were more likely to occur in late morning and early afternoon. We used statistical tools such as Pareto charts, c-charts and Ishikawa diagrams. Such tools are useful in diagnosing the root-cause of tree-harvesting worker accidents and help in developing preventive safety programs. Recommendations to help improve the quality of information of accident data collected by insurance companies and others are briefly given. The strategy and culture of continuous process improvements are stressed.

This paper is concerned with the implementation of the active vibration suppression controller using analog circuit and microprocessor. The target active vibration controller is the positive position feedback(PPF) controller since it provides a simple algorithm suitable for both analog circuit and digital controllers. In this study, the analog PPF controller is realized using an operational amplifier and the digital PPF controller is realized using a low-cost micro-controller. The circuit diagrams are explained in detail. We then discuss the advantages and disadvantages of both methods from the view of practical implementation. Experimental results show that both implementation methods can be effectively used for the active vibration control but need to be chosen based on the mission objective.

We have made an improved catalog of O-rich AGB stars in our Galaxy from the sources listed in the Infrared Astronomical Satellite (IRAS) point source catalog (PSC). We compile the lists of previous works with various verifying processes. We have removed 115 stars from the previous catalog of Suh & Kwon (2009) and added 958 more stars. The improved catalog contains 3036 O-rich AGB stars. The content of the revised catalog can be divided into 3 groups based on the verifying processes: OH/IR stars, SiO maser stars, and other detecting methods. We compare the new catalog with the previous catalog on the infrared two-color diagrams for the large sample of O-rich AGB stars. And we discuss differences among the 3 groups of the improved catalog and identification processes of some stars in exceptive cases.
