  • To enhance security and privacy in biometrics, changeable (or cancelable) biometrics have recently been introduced. The idea is to transform a biometric signal or feature into a new one for enrollment and matching. In this paper, we proposed changeable biometrics for face recognition using on PCA based approach. PCA coefficient vector extracted from an input face image. The vector is scrambled randomly and removed. When a transformed template is compromised, it is replaced by a new scrambling rule. In our experiment, we compared the performance between when PCA coefficient vectors are used for verification and when the transformed coefficient vectors are used for verification.

  • A numerical study is conducted to investigate the periodically unstable shock induced combustion around blunt bodies in stoichiometric hydrogen-air mixtures. Euler equations are spatially discretized by upwind-biased third order scheme and temporally integrated by Runge-Kutta method. Chemistry model used in this study involves 8 elementary kinetics steps and 7 species. At a constant Mach number, the effects of projectile size, inflow pressure and inflow temperature are examined with Lehr#s experimental condition as a reference. In addition to oscillation frequency, characteristic distances and time averaged values are found from the result to find an relation with dimensionless parameters. As a result, it is found that the effects of inflow pressure and body size are very similar and $Damk{\ddot{o}}hler$ number plays an important role in determining the instability characteristics.

  • Nitric oxide (NO) can mediate numerous physiological processes, including vasodilation, neurotransmission, cytotoxicity, secretion and inflammatory response. The regulation of NO production by inducible NO synthase (iNOS) is considered to be the possible target of the development of anti-inflammatory agent, based on the observation that NO can activate cyclooxygenase, which results in the synthesis of prostaglandins. In an effort to screen new inhibitor of NO production from about 352 species of herbal extracts, we found 9 species with 50% or more inhibitory effect on NO production. Especially, the dose-dependent inhibition of NO production in lipopolysaccharide-treated macrophages by two of the herbal extracts (Artemisiae asiaticae Herba and Saussureae Radix) was due to the decrease in the expression of iNOS.

  • Community noise, especially a rail traffic noise has been serious social issues in Korea. Our society needs practical tools to reduce noise levels for public who live near the railway lines. This paper proposes a noise reducer for railway traffic noise. At the beginning, various types of reducers are discussed, with the advantages and disadvantages with respect to acoustical phenomena. Then, the acoustic effects are discussed based on an insertion loss measurement. After several types of reduces are installed at fields, the noise level is monitored with and without the reducer. The result shows that the proper selection of reducers affects the noise level by 6 dB. The statistics of the mean and a standard deviation turns out to be 3.2 dB and 0.8 dB, respectively. Noise reducers are strongly recommended for the place where apartments are densely constructed alone the railway. Installation of noise reducers seems to be an effective and practical solution for the community traffic noise reduction.

  • Purpose: As the number of total knee arthroplasties (TKAs) increases, the incidence of femoral periprosthetic fractures after TKA is also increasing. This review aimed to suggest a new surgically oriented classification system for femoral periprosthetic fractures. Methods: We investigated the classifications, and current treatment trends for femoral periprosthetic fractures after TKA by means of a thorough review of the relevant literature. Results: Numerous studies reported good results of surgical treatment with modern fixatives including locking compression plates and retrograde intramedullary nails. However, few classifications of femoral periprosthetic fractures reflect the recent developments in surgical treatment. Conclusions: We recommend that surgical management be considered the first-line treatment for femoral periprosthetic fractures after TKA. Our new classification will help in deciding the surgical treatment option for femoral periprosthetic fractures after TKA.

  • The signal transduction pathway leading to the activation of the p70s6k plays an important role in the progression of cells from G0/G1 to S phase of the cell cycle but remains incompletely characterized. We investigated the role of the Rho family G protein Rac1 in H2O2-mediated p70s6k activation. Transient expression of a dominant negative mutants of the small GTP-binding proteins Rac1 (Rac1N17) and Cdc42(Cdc42N17) showed reduced levels of slower migration on Western blots of one-dimensional SDS-PAGE in p70s6k and ERK1/2 by PDFG stimulation. • In previous study, we investigated the mechanism of suppression of inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) and cyclo-oxygenase-2 (COX-2) by ergolide, sesquiterpene lactone from Inula Britannica. In this study, the suppression of iNOS and COX-2 by ergolide might be attributed to selective inhibition of NF-$\_$K/B signaling pathways. Here, we investigated the suppressionmechanism of NF-$\_$K/B signaling pathways by ergolide in TPA-stimulated HeLa cells. (omitted)
