  • Mulberry being the only food of silkworm, Bombyx mori L., is of great economic importance to the silk industry, The success in cocoon production mainly depends on the supply of quality leaves in sufficient quantity. In mulberry, where the economic product is leaf, the uptake of nitrogen from soil is very heavy and high responses to application of nutrients have been reported. Nitrogen supports vegetative growth particularly the leaf biomass. Variation in nitrogen harvest index and other physiological and yield contributing traits were estimated in five mulberry genotypes. Considerable variation was observed for nitrogen harvest index, protein yield per plant and harvest index. The correlation studies indicated the protein yield per plant was significantly correlated with leaf yield, nitrogen content in leaf, nitrogen harvest index and harvest index. The broad sense heritability estimates revealed that harvest index showed highest heritability (88.07%) followed by nitrogen content (82.52%), protein yield (70.28%) and nitrogen harvest index (66.52%).

  • The present study hypothesized that ratio between carcass traits components could be applied for the understanding of yield index in Hanwoo steer. A thousand data was generated based on average carcass weight (CW), loin area (LA) and backfat thickness (BT) of Hanwoo steer in December 2018 for analysis 1. Then yield index (YI) was calculated using newly established yield index equation. The correlation between yield index and each carcass traits was visualized. In the interaction between carcass traits components (LA, CW, BT) and YI, only the interactions including BT showed a regular pattern to YI. Then changes of YI according to ratio of carcass traits components were investigated. The observed interactions between LABT and CWBT were similar with Monod equation model. The changes of YI to LABT and CWBT were fitted to Monod equation, and yield constants (K1 for LABT; K2, CWBT) of each equation were calculated as 0.47 and 2.20, respectively. Carcass traits from 5 commercial Hanwoo steer farm were then employed in the second analysis. Yield constants of each farm were estimated. In estimation, R2 value for K1 (LABT) showed greater than the K2 (CWBT). Finally, each farm was plotted based on their K1 and K2 values and it was found that greater yield index of Hanwoo steer was found as increased K1 and K2. As conclusion, the present study suggested the possibility of K1 and K2 values for understanding of yield grade equation and their application in the evaluation of new model for yield grade estimation and feeding strategy.

  • Studies on the interrelationship between biological yield and harvest index, and their association with shoot rearing were carried out in 9 promising mulberry genotypes, which indicated significant variations among genotypes. Biological yield had close association with leaf yield components indicating that they are inter-related for higher productivity in mulberry, Biological yield revealed highly significant positive correlation with important leaf yield components. However height of the longest branch showed negative correlation with biological yield. Genotypes with higher biological yield associated with low ratio of stem weight to leaf weight and high Harvest index on dry weight basis are to be selected for shoot rearing. Biological yield recorded on fresh weight basis had less impact on the present study in comparison to dry weight basis.

  • The yield of semiconductor chips is dependent not only on the average defect density but also on the distribution of defects over a wafer. The distribution of defects leads to consider a cluster index. This paper briefly reviews the existing yield prediction models ad proposes a new cluster index, which utilizes the information about the defect location on a wafer in terms of the coefficient of variation. An extensive simulation is performed under a variety of defect distributions and a yield prediction model is derived through the regression analysis to relate the yield with the proposed cluster index and the average number of defects per chip. The performance of the proposed simulation-based yield prediction model is compared with that of the well-known negative binomial model.

  • This experiment was conducted to investigate the changes of harvest index and the relationship between harvest index and yield determination factors by different planting times in the determinate soybean cultivars, Shinpaldal and Danbaeg. Optimum planting were 23 May in 1995 and 1996. Late planting were 13 June in 1995 and 6 June in 1996. Growth period from planting to physiological maturity (R7) was shortened as planting time was delayed in two cultivars due to shortening of reproductive growth period in Shinpaldal, and of vegetative growth period in Danbaeg. Stem weight was distinctly decreased in late planting compared to optimum planting, but seed weight of both cultivars was not different between planting times. Also, seed number per pod and harvest index were significantly increased in late planting and the high correlation was found between two factors. It was suggested that increase of harvest index in late planting would be related with high assimilate use efficiency due to increase of sink capacity. The results of correlation and principal component analysis for yield determination factors showed that main factor on yield determination was pod number per plant at R5 stage associated with dry matter accumulation during early reproductive growth period, seed number per pod and harvest index were the second factor, and one hundred seed weight was the third factor. The result of this experiment indicated that yield determination in soy-bean was dependent mainly on pod number per plant related to dry matter accumulation by early reproductive growth period, and the increase of seed number per pod and harvest index could compensate for yield decrease by shortening of vegetative growth period in late planting. Such result suggests that optimum planting date can be delayed from mid May to early June in improved soybean cultivars in Korea.

  • This study was conducted to investigate the yield response of soybean to drought stress in 1984 and 1986 at the experiment field of the National Academy of Agricultural Science using experiment plots with different soil water tension and fertilizer levels. The average yield response factor (YRF) of soybean to evapotranspiration (ET) calculated as [(Ya/Ym)/(ETa/ETm)], where Ya, average yield; Ym, maximum yield; ETa, average ET; and ETm, maximum ET, was 0.91 with the range from 0.74 to 1.16. Relationship between yield index (YI=[Ya/Ym]) and evapotranspiration index (ETI=[ETa/PET]) was $YI=0.87{\cdot}(ETI)+0.09$. Relationship between YI and the maximum soil water tension (Hmax) was $YI=1.23-0.23{\cdot}{\log}$ (Hmax). Relationship between YI and the days of drought stressed (Dr) was $YI=0.877{\cdot}{\exp}$ ($-0.01{\cdot}Dr$). The relation between YI and fertilizer level (F) was $YI=-0.21{\cdot}F2+0.36{\cdot}F+0.33$, under very serious drought condition as the maximum soil water tension was 0.3 MPa.

  • Planting date of soybeans [Glycine max (L.) Merr.] is one of production components in cultural systems. The objective of the current study was to identify the components of soybean production and cultural practices encompassing planting dates and cultivars that respond to dry matter accumulation, harvest index and yield components. Three determinate soybean cultivars were planted on May 13 (early), June 3 (mid), and June 24 (late). Planting density was 60$\times$15cm with 2 seeds (222,000 plants per ha). Soybean plants were sampled every 10 days interval from the growth stages of V5 to R8 and separated into leaves including petioles, stems, pods, and seeds. Dry matter accumulations, harvest indices, and yield components were measured. Early planting had taken 55 days from VE to R2 and late planting taken 39 days indicating reduced vegetative growth. Early planting showed higher leaf, stem, pod and seed dry weights than late planting. However, late planting appeared to be higher harvest index and harvesting rate. Vegetative mass including leaf and stem increased to a maximum around R4/R5 and total dry weight increased to a maximum around R5/R6 and then declined slightly at R8. The highest seed yield was obtained with mid planting and no difference was found between early and late plantings. Cultivar differences were found among planting dates on growth characteristics and yield components. The results of this experiment indicated that soybean yield in relation to planting dates examined was mainly associated with harvest index and harvesting rate, and planting date of cultivars would be considered soybean plants to reach the growth stage of R4/R5 after mid August for adequate seed yield.

  • The main aim of the study is to provide empirical evidence about the association between stock market exchange data and weighted price index. This research utilized monthly reported data from the Amman stock exchange market (ASE) and the Central Bank of Jordan (CBJ). The weighted price index was employed as the dependent variable and the independent variables were weighted price index (WPI), turnover ratio (TOR), number of trading days (NTD), price-earnings ratio (PER), and dividends yield ratio (DY). The time period of the study was from January 2015 to October 2020. The study's methodology follows a quantitative approach using the multiple regression method to test the hypotheses of the study. The final results of the study provided conclusive evidence that the market-weighted price index is strongly and positively correlated to three predetermined variables, namely; turnover ratio, price-earnings ratio, and dividend yield but no evidence was obtained for the effect of the number of trading days. The finding of the current study proved that the market price index is not only influenced by macro factors, but also by other variables assumed to not beneficial for the judgment of price index movements.

  • Flow properties of doenjang samples at various total solid contents (30, 32, 34, 36, 38, 40%) were evaluated in this study. Flow properties of doenjang samples was determined by using Haake concentric cylinderical viscometer and Instron testing machine with capillary extrusion viscometer, and consistency index(K), and flow behavior index(n) was also determined from power models, and yield stress was derived form Casson models and vanes methods. Doenjang samples showed shear-thinning (pseudoplastic) fluid with small magnitude of flow behavior index(n) (n=0.30-0.55). Casson yield stress was from 2.11 to 64.02(Pa). Vane yield stress was more effective than casson yield stress in property of reactivation. Apparent viscosity was decreased with the increase in temperature and activation energy was in the range of 6.58 to 10.70 kJ/mole. From the capillary extrusion method, K and n was increased with the increase in solid content with good correlation with. The result revealed that capillary extrusion method is useful for measuring the flow properties of doenjang.

  • Identification of rice paddy fields and estimation of their areas from the images taken by LANDSAT-5/TM were attempted. The results were verified by aerial photographs and also by ground observations. Changes of the spectral characteristics of rice plants were measured with a portable spectroradiometer during the growth period. Analyzing these characteristics, an index was developed for evaluating the growth and the yield of rice . Applying the index to the data observed by LANDSAT-5.TM on Sep. 26, 1986, Oct .20, 1989 and Sep, 21, 1990, it was confirmed that the estimated derived from the index agreed with actual values. The results well demonstrated its feasibility for evaluating the yield of rice by a satellite like LANDSAT-5/TM.
