  • The objective of this study was to estimate the genetic parameters of milk protein yields in Iranian Holstein dairy cattle. A total of 1,112,082 test-day milk protein yield records of 167,269 first lactation Holstein cows, calved from 1990 to 2010, were analyzed. Estimates of the variance components, heritability, and genetic correlations for milk protein yields were obtained using a random regression test-day model. Milking times, herd, age of recording, year, and month of recording were included as fixed effects in the model. Additive genetic and permanent environmental random effects for the lactation curve were taken into account by applying orthogonal Legendre polynomials of the fourth order in the model. The lowest and highest additive genetic variances were estimated at the beginning and end of lactation, respectively. Permanent environmental variance was higher at both extremes. Residual variance was lowest at the middle of the lactation and contrarily, heritability increased during this period. Maximum heritability was found during the 12th lactation stage ($0.213{\pm}0.007$). Genetic, permanent, and phenotypic correlations among test-days decreased as the interval between consecutive test-days increased. A relatively large data set was used in this study; therefore, the estimated (co)variance components for random regression coefficients could be used for national genetic evaluation of dairy cattle in Iran.

  • A black nickel oxide powder, one of the commercial nickel oxide ores, was reduced by hydrogen gas in a batch-type fluidized-bed reactor in a temperature range of 350 to $500^{\circ}C$ and in a residence time range of 5 to 120 min. The hydrogen reduction behavior of the black nickel oxide was found to be somewhat different from that of green nickel oxide ore. For the black nickel oxide, the maximum temperature (below which nickel oxide particles can be reduced without any agglomeration) was significantly lower than that observed for the green nickel oxide. In addition, the best curve fittings of the Avrami model were obtained at higher values of the overall rate constant "k" and at lower values of the exponent "m", compared to those values for the green nickel oxide. It may be inferred from these results that the hydrogen reduction rate of the black nickel oxide is faster than that of the green nickel oxide in the early stages, but the situation reverses in the later stages. For the black nickel oxide ore, in spite of the low temperature sintering, it was possible to achieve a high degree fluidized-bed reduction at lower temperatures and at lower gas consumption rates than was possible for the green nickel oxide. In this regard, the use of black nickel oxide is expected to yield a benefit if its ore price is sufficiently lower than that of the green nickel oxide.

  • This paper is to study on the behavior of CFT column to H-beam end plate connections with penetrated high-strength bolts under cyclic load. The main parameters are as follows: 1) the thickness of end plate: 16mm, 22mm and 25mm, 2) the thickness of column : 9mm and 12mm. Comparison and analysis on the test results are performed in accordance with parameters. This study investigates energy absorption capacity of beam-column connections and analyzes the shear strength of joint panel. The shear strength of joint panel is estimated by superimposing the strength of the steel which is based on the von Mises yield criterion and that of the concrete which is used the Strut model to consider the effect of filled concrete.

  • An abrasive, calcium hydrogen phosphate dihydrate (DCPD), was synthesized in a Box-wilson experimental design by reactions between phosphoric acid and milk of lime, and calcium chloride and sodium phosphate solutions, and stabilized with TSPP and TMP. The optimum conditions for preparation of DCPD from phosphoric acid with milk of lime were such as; reaction temp.; $51.9^{\circ}C$, conc. of lime; 25.9%, conc. of phosphoric acd; 77.9%, drying temp.; $60.2^{\circ}C$ and final pH; 6.46. The physico-chemical and pharmaceutical properties of DCPD were showed as follows: glycerin absorption value(68 ml/100g), whiteness(99.5%), particle size(10.9 nm), pH(7.8), and set test(pass). XRD and SEM of DCPD indicated a monoclinic system crystallographically. $N_2$ adsorption isotherm curve by BET showed non porous type II form. The micromeritic parameters of DCPD showed that surface area was $3.27{\sim}4.6\;cm^{2}/g$ and pore volume, pore area and pore radius were negligible. The rheogram of the toothpaste containing DCPD showed pseudoplastic flow with yield value of 321, and thixotropic behavior forming hysteresis loop. These results meet the requirements as abrasive standard, and sythesized DCPD is expected as a good dental abrasive such as a high quality grade in practice.

  • The main goal of this paper is to determine hydraulic properties and to predict drawdown for the efficient and stable development of groundwater in the Daejong-Chun area, North of Kyungsang-Do. Based on geological survey and analysis of well logging data conducted in 1991, it is found that the type of aquifer of this area is considered to be an anisotropic unconfined aquifer with saturated thickness of 19.8 m. In order to characterize this aquifer pumping test was conducted, and the resulting drawdown data were utilized for the analysis by applying both type curve matching technique and semi-log straight line method. As a result, the average specific yield of this aquifer is estimated as 32.3%, and the average ratio of $K_H$ to $K_V$ is only 2.7, which means that gravitational effect is not significant factor for this type of aquifer. For the validation of the estimated hydraulic properties, the analytical model which was developed with Newton-Raphson iteration procedure in this study, was employed to generate the drawdown. And, the resulting drawdown was compared against actual drawdown data and it shows the excellent matches. The actual drawdown data for 9 hours of pumping were used for history matching purposes and relatively satisfactory matches were achieved in this match. Then, the model was run by using the tuned parameters that are obtained during history matching stage, and the drawdown was predicted for the next 30 years of pumping with $3,000m^3/day$ of constant pumping rate. Its result indicates that the drawdown was stabilized as 1.41 m from 20 days with $3,000m^3/day$ of constant pumping rate, which is the required amount of water to be safely supplied to this area.

  • For the evaluation of the capability of a tubular member of an offshore structure to absorb the collision energy, a simple method can be employed for the collision analysis without performing the detailed analysis. The most common simple method is the rigid-plastic method. However, in this method any characteristics for horizontal movement and rotation at the ends of the corresponding tubular member are not included. In a real structural system of an offshore structure, tubular members sustain a certain degree of elastic support from the adjacent structure. End fixity has influences in the behaviors of a tubular member. Three-dimensional FEM analysis can include the effect of end fixity fully, however in viewpoints of the inherent computational complexities of the 3-D approach, this is not the recommendable analysis at the initial design stage. In this paper, influence of end fixity on the behaviors of a tubular member is investigated, through a new approach and other approaches. A new analysis approach that includes the flexibility of the boundary points of the member is developed here. The flexibility at the ends of a tubular element is extracted using the rational reduction of the modeling characteristics. The property reduction is based on the static condensation of the related global stiffness matrix of a model to end nodal points of the tubular element. The load-displacement relation at the collision point of the tubular member with and without the end flexibility is obtained and compared. The new method lies between the rigid-plastic method and the 3-demensional analysis. It is self-evident that the rigid-plastic method gives high strengthening membrane effect of the member during global deformation, resulting in a steeper slope than the present method. On the while, full 3-D analysis gives less strengthening membrane effect on the member, resulting in a slow going load-displacement curve. Comparison of the load-displacement curves by the new approach with those by conventional methods gives the figures of the influence of end fixity on post-yielding behaviors of the relevant tubular member. One of the main contributions of this investigation is the development of an analytical rational procedure to figure out the post-yielding behaviors of a tubular member in offshore structures.

  • The photodissociation dynamics of cyclopropyl bromide ($C_3H_5Br$) and cyclobutyl bromide ($C_4H_7Br$) at 234 nm was investigated. A two-dimensional photofragment ion-imaging technique coupled with a [2+1] resonanceenhanced multiphoton ionization scheme was utilized to obtain speed and angular distributions of the nascent $Br(^2P_{3/2})$ and $Br^*(^2P_{1/2})$ atoms. The recoil anisotropies for the Br and $Br^*$ channels were measured to be ${\beta}_{Br}=0.92{\pm}0.03$ and ${\beta}_{Br^*}=1.52{\pm}0.04$ for $C_3H_5Br$ and ${\beta}_{Br}=1.10{\pm}0.03$ and ${\beta}_{Br^*}=1.49{\pm}0.05$ for $C_4H_7Br$. The relative quantum yield for Br was found to be ${\Phi}_{Br}=0.13{\pm}0.03$ and for $C_3H_5Br$ and $C_4H_7Br$, respectively. The soft radical limit of the impulsive model adequately modeled the related energy partitioning. The nonadiabatic transition probability from the 3A' and 4A' potential energy surfaces was estimated and discussed.

  • This paper presents an experimental study on the behavior of CFT Column to H-Beam Endplate Connections with penetrated H/T bolts under monotonic loading. The object of this study is to estimate accurately the effect about the thickness of endplate and the arrangement of H/T bolts which was not got a grip on the results reported in the previous paper. Main parameters are the thickness of endplates (12mm, 16mm) and the arrangemement of H/T bolts (EP1, EP2, EP3 Type). The experimental results compared and analysed. 1) The specimens were classified by Bjorhovde's and EC3's method. 2) A formula to predict the ultimate moment of connection was derived based on the T-stub model, and theoretical value $(_tM_u)$ computed by the formula corresponded to the experimental value $(_eM_u)$.

  • Effects of concentration (5-8%, db) and heating temperature $(80^{\circ}C-95^{\circ}C)$ on rheological of mungbean starch were examined. The pasting curve by amylograph revealed no peak viscosity and the viscosity continued to increase during cooking, regardless the starch concentrations. Mungbean starch paste showed a pseudoplastic flow behavior with yield stress. The consistency index of paste increased as the heating temperature was raised at a given concentration. However, flow behavior index showed opposite trend. The percent sag of starch gel stored at $4^{\circ}C$ decreased with the increase of concentration and heating temperature. The firmness of fresh gel prepared from 7 and 8% starch suspensions by heating at $95^{\circ}C$ for 15 min with amylograph was about 2-times higher than that of 6% gel. However, the time constant, reciprocal of rate constant, of starch gels during aging at $4^{\circ}C$ was not significantly influenced by concentrations and heating temperatures.

  • Determination of iron(II) ion with a perfluorinated sulfonated polymer(nafion)-ethylenediamine(en) modified glassy carbon electrode was studied. It was based on the chemical reactivity of an immobilized layer(nafion-en) to yield complex $[Fe(en)_3]^{+2}$. The oxidation peak potential by differential pulse voltammetry(DPV) was observed at 0.340${\pm}$0.015 V(vs. Ag/AgCl). The linear calibration curve was obtained in iron(II) ion concentration range $5{\times}10^{-6}{\sim}0.2{\times}10^{-3} M(0.28{\sim}11.17\; mg/L)$, and the detection limit(3s) was $1.89{\times}10^{-5}$M(1.056 mg/L).
