  • “DK 537”has been selected by forage crop breeding team at the National Livestock Research Institute(NLRI), RDA and has been determined by the Deliberative Council of the National Agricultural Cooperative Federation(NACF) in 2002, as a new recommended hybrid which is early maturing, good quality and hi호 yield of corn for silage. The characteristics of this hybrid are as follows ; 1. The seed coat is yellow and the mean of tasseling date is 5th of July, included in early maturing hybrid which is one day delayed than check cultivar, DK 501. The culm length is 246cm. It is resistant to lodging because of its low height from surface to ear. 2. DK 537 shows resistance to H. maydis and Maize Black-Streaked Dwarf Virus(MBSDV). It also shows strength to corn borer as much as DK 501 does. 3. Fresh yield. dry matter yield. and TDN per a ha are 50 tons, 16.9 tons, and 11.4 tons respectively. which are almost same yielding level of DK 501. Its percent ear to total dry matter is 50.8% at the same time. Through all these tests, we could make sure at DK 537 hybrid will be recommended as good forage crop.

찰옥수수 연구 - VIII. 찰옥수수 대학찰 골드 1호에 대한 파종시기별 주요 작물학적 및 이삭 특성 (Study on Waxy Corn - VIII. Botanical and Ear Characteristices of the Yellow Glutinous Corn Hybrid, Daehakchal Gold 1, at Various Planting Stages)

  • 본 실험은 신품종 대학찰 골드 1호에 대한 파종 시기별 생육 및 이삭 특성에 대한 연구 결과 주요 특성은 다음과 같다. 1. 공시종에 대한 간장은 모든 파종 시기에서 대학찰 골드1호가 찰옥 1호보다 컷으나 찰옥 1호의 개체간에는 생육 차이가 큰 변이를 보였다. 2. 공시종의 평균 개화기는 대조구인 찰옥 1호가 7일 정도 빨랐으나 개체간 차이가 큰 반면에 대학찰 골드 1호의 개화기는 균일하였다. 두 품종 모두 파종시기가 늦어질수록 개화 소요일수가 빨라지는 경향이었다. 3. 공시종에 대한 간장과 착수고의 비율은 파종시기가 빠를수록 두 품종 모두 낮게 나타나 도복 경감 효과가 클 것으로 나타났다. 4. 공시종에 대한 이삭길이 및 착립 상태를 비교한 결과 대학찰 골드 1호를 4월 말에서 5월 초에 파종한 것이 다른 시기에 파종한 것보다 생육 및 이삭 특성이 우수하였다.

옥수수 초형교정이 군락 투광성 및 수량성에 미치는 영향 (Effect of Canopy Reforming on Light Penetration into Crop Community and Yielding in Corn)

  • 옥수수의 밀도를 소(60cm$\times$40cm), 적(60cm$\times$24cm), 밀식(60cm$\times$16cm)으로 심고 초형처리로서 자연초형(남북이랑), 동서향교정(남북이랑), 동서향교정 및 엽각조정(남북이랑), 남북향교정(동서이랑)을 실시하였다. 초형교정은 엽출현이 완료된 뒤 철사가를 옥수수군락에 설치하고 옥수수잎들은 동서향이 되록 유인하여 고정시키고, 엽각조정은 수평에서 80$^{\circ}$가 되도록 직입화시켰다. 옥수수의 자연초형은 남북이랑이든 동서이랑이든 관계없이 모든 방위로 고루 분포하였고 약간의 남북향 경향을 보였으나 현저하지 않았고 엽각은 직입~중간엽형의 분포를 나타내었다. 군락내부에서 광투과는 초형을 동서향으로 교정하거나 엽각을 직립화시킴에 따라 초고의 중간높이에서 일평균 광도가 5~10% 가량 향상되었다. 반면 남북향 초형교정에서는 2~10% 정도 낮아졌다. 황숙기의 건물중집적은 밀식시 동서향초형이 자연초형 보다 6% 증가하였으나 남북향초형은 차이가 없었다. 완숙기의 종실수량에서는 동서향 초형교정은 3~11% 증가하였으나, 엽각조정까지 하였을 때에는 소식에서 10% 감소, 적. 밀식에서는 10%, 3%씩 각각 대조구보다 증가하였다. 반면 남북향초형은 차이가 없거나 감수로 나타난다. 초형을 태양의 방위와 고도를 고려하여 변형한다면 밀식에서도 일사광의 군낙내부로 침투를 용이하게 하며 증수할 수 있음이 확인되었다.

Effect of cooking methods on the phytosterol content in nine selected vegetables

  • Phytosterol contents in nine vegetables such as paprika (red, yellow, and orange), kohlrabi, bamboo shoot, cherry tomato, cucumber, Chinese chive, and corn were analyzed by gas chromatography. Individual contents of ${\beta}$-sitosterol, campesterol, and stigmasterol in fresh and cooked vegetables (boiling, grilling, stir-frying, deep-frying, steaming, roasting, and microwaving) were determined and compared. Total phytosterol content of paprika, cucumber, Chinese chive and cherry tomato ranged from 23.19 to 46.51 mg/kg (0.002-0.005%) of fresh weight of raw vegetables. Total phytosterol content variation (%) was obtained as follows: [(the content of phytosterol after cooking) - (the content of phytosterol before cooking)] / (the content of phytosterol before cooking) ${\times}100$. Total phytosterol content was found to be high in raw kohlrabi at 138.99 mg/kg fw (0.01%), in corn at 302.86 mg/kg fw (0.03%), and in bamboo shoot at 443.15 mg/kg fw (0.04 %). Total phytosterol content variation (%) in orange paprika ranged from 27.5 to 267.3 while that in cherry tomato ranged from -11.0 to 337.5. Generally, high content variation of total phytosterol was found in stir-fried and deep-fried vegetables. Therefore, higher phytosterol levels were obtained from cooked vegetables than raw vegetables. We suggest that these data will be useful to investigate cooking methods for increased intake of phytosterols.

Cholesterol Free Mozzarella Cheese 제조에 관한 연구 (Studies on Cholesterol Free Mozzarella Cheese Manufacture)

  • 혈중 콜레스테롤 농도를 저하시키는 건강지향적인 불포화 지방산을 다량 함유한 옥배유로 원료유 지방을 표준화하여 cholesterol free Mozzarella cheese제조 후 특성을 살펴 보았다. 치즈 제조용 원료유는 안정성이 있었고, 최종 시료인 치즈에서 휘발성 유리지방산은 콜레스테롤 상승에 영향을 미치는 palmitic acid가 일반 치즈인 대조구에서 가장 높게 측정된 반면에 실험구인 옥배유를 첨가하여 만든 치즈는 동맥경화 및 성인병 등의 예방, 치료에 도움을 주는 linoleic acid 조성 이 가장 높게 나타나 영양학적으로 우수한 결론이 돌출되었다. 포화지방산에 대한 불포화지방산의 비율은 대조구가 7:3, 옥배유를 첨가하여 만든 치즈가 2:8로 나타났으며, 콜레스테롤은 대조구의 43.58 mg/100 g에 비해 옥배유를 첨가하여 만든 치즈는4.34 mg/100g만 측정되어 건강에 유의한 결과가 나타났다. 결과적으로 본 연구는 혈중 콜레스테롤 저하효과를 나타내는 휘발성 유리지방산을 다량 함유하고, 콜레스테롤 함량이 대조구의 10%수준인 영양학적으로 우수한 건강지향적인 cholesterol free Mozzarella cheese를 제조할 수 있었다.

Double membrane-bound particles associated with eriophyid mite-borne plant diseases of unknown etiology : a potentially new group of plant viruses\ulcorner

  • Unique virus-like particles were associated with five eriophyid mite-borne plant diseases of unknown etiology; fig mosaic, redbud yellow ringspot, rose orsette, thistle mosaic, and high plains disease of corn and wheat. Quasi-spherical, double membrane-bound particles (DMPs), 120 - 200 nm in diameter, were observed in the cytoplasm of all cell types in symptomatic leaves of infected plants. No DMPs were observed in symptomless plants. The DMPs in symptomatic thistles were associated with two types of inclusions, electron-dense amorphous material and tubular aggregates. Similar amorphous inclusions were also found in corn and wheat with high plains disease, while tubular inclusions were observed in figs with mosaic symptoms. The particles and inclusions were similar in some aspects to immature particles associated with viroplasms of animal and insect poxviruses and also to the double-enveloped particles of tomato spotted wilt virus associated with viroplasms during early stages of infection, but were unique and unlike any known plant viruses. The DMPs and associated viroplasm-like inclusions in the high plains disease were specifically immunogold labeled in situ with the disease-specific antiserum. Thread-like structures, similar to tenuivirus particles, present in the partially purified virus preparations were also immunogold labeled with the antiserum. It is suggested that the thread-like structures are derived from the DMP. In many cells of symptomatic corn and wheat samples, DMPs occurred together with flexuous rod-shaped particles and cylindrical inclusions of wheat streak mosaic potyvirus (WSMV), suggesting that the disease is caused by a mixed infection of WSMV and the agent represented by the DMPs. Based on cytopathology, symptomatology and mite and/or graft-transmissibility, the five diseases described in this paper are potentially caused by virus(es) and the DMPs associated with these diseases may represent virus particles. If the DMPs are indeed viral in nature, they would comprise a new group of plant viruses.

Effect of Replacing Corn Silage with Whole Crop Rice Silage in Total Mixed Ration on Intake, Milk Yield and Its Composition in Holsteins

  • This study was conducted to investigate the effects of replacing whole crop corn silage (WCCS) with whole crop rice silage (WCRS) in the total mixed ration (TMR) on nutrient intake, milk yield and its composition in Holstein cows. The Chucheong rice variety (Oryza sativa L. Japonica) and corn (Pioneer 32 P75) were harvested at yellow-ripe stage and were ensiled in round bales and in trench silos, respectively. Two TMR containing either WCCS or WCRS were prepared. These diets were randomly assigned to 16 midlactating Holstein cows (8 cows per treatment) and were fed for 120 days. The first 20 days were used for dietary adaptation and for the next 100 days daily feed intake, milk yield and its composition were recorded. The pH, lactic acid, NDF, ADF, CP, Ca and P contents were similar in WCRS and WCCS. The DM, ash and EE contents of WCRS were greater compared with WCCS. Nutrient (DM, NDF, TDN and CP) intakes were similar in cows fed WCCS- and WCRS-based TMR. Daily and 4% fat corrected milk yield were not affected by the treatments. Milk composition (percent milk fat, protein, lactose and total solids) was similar in cows fed either WCCS- or WCRSbased TMR. The concentration of milk urea N was greater in cows fed WCRS-based TMR than those fed WCCS-based TMR. In conclusion, round-baled WCRS can replace WCCS in the diet of mid- to late-lactating Holsteins without any deleterious effects on feed consumption, milk yield and its composition. The present findings raise the possibility that WCRS can be used as an alternative roughage source in the diets of dairy cows in countries with surplus rice production.

면류용 알칼리제 처리가 건면의 조리특성에 미치는 영향 (Effect of Alkali Salts Adding on the Cooking Quality in Dried Noodles)

  • The effects of alkali salts adding on the cooking quality improving in dried noodles were investigated in the good texture maintaining for preventing solid soluble losses ,through chemical analysis and actual manufacturing practice ,the following results were obtained. Experiments were took a special flour of ASW:DNS=70:30, thickening agent(TA) composed of K2CO3 58%, Na2CO3 36% and Na4P2076%, and emulsified oil(EO) mixing of corn oil 44%, polysorbate 23%, emulsifier(ester of glycerin and fatty acids) 21%, soy lecithin 12%. When the mixing ratio of TA and EO to flour, is 0.03 and 1.5%(w/w) or morel than, satisfied the good quality. The water soluble solid matters content of the lowest 3.2% in the treating group that TA and EO is 0.03 and 1.5%(w/w) respectively, comparing to the 7.3% in the control group provides a excellent cooking quality. The research achieves the similar effects at specific gravity, water absorption ratio, weight increasing rate and volume expansion ratio. According to appearance test the more treating of TA turn the noodle into deeper yellow-green color. Turning to the deeper yellow color according to the increasing of EO provides better

Taxonomy of Yellow koji mold (Aspergillus flavus/oryzae) in Korea

  • Koji molds are comprised of yellow, black and white. Black and white koji molds were recently re-visited by this author and it is concluded that they consists of Aspergillus luchuesnsis, A. niger and A. tubingensis, and the most important species for alcoholic beverage production is A. luchuensis. In the case of yellow koji mold, it is comprised of Aspergillus oryzae, A. sojae and A. tamari. In the case of A. sojae, the species is scarcely isolated from nature and rarely used for industry in Korea. Aspergillus tamari is often isolated from traditional Korean Meju, a fermented soybean product, and the classification of the species is clear. However, in the case of A. oryzae, differentiation between A. oryzae and A. flavus is still in controversy. In this study, we collected 415 strains of Aspergillus flavus/oryzae complex from air, rice straw, soybean, corn, peanut, arable soil and Meju in Korea and we examined the aflatoxin producing capacity of the strains. The norB-cypA, omtA and aflR genes in the aflatoxin biosynthesis gene cluster were analyzed. We found that 367 strains (88.4%) belonged to non-aflatoxigenic group (Type I of norB-cypA, IB-L-B-, IC-AO, or IA-L-B- of omtA, and AO type of aflR), and only 48 strains (11.6%) belonged to aflatoxin-producible group (Type II of norB-cypA, IC-L-B+/B- or IC-L-B+ of omtA, and AF type of aflR). In the case of A. flavus/oryzae strains from Meju, almost strains (178/192, 92.7%) belonged to non-aflatoxigenic group and only 14 strains (7.3 %) belonged to aflatoxin-producible group. It is proposed in this study that non-aflatoxigenic strain from Meju is classified as A. oryzae, considering that Meju is food material.

Effects of Replacement of Soybean Meal by Fermented Cottonseed Meal on Growth Performance, Serum Biochemical Parameters and Immune Function of Yellow-feathered Broilers

  • The study was conducted to examine the effects of partially replacing soybean meal (SBM) by solid-state fermented cottonseed meal (FCSM) on growth performance, serum biochemical parameters and immune function of broilers. After inoculated with Bacillus subtilis BJ-1 for 48 h, the content of free gossypol in cottonseed meal was decreased from 0.82 to 0.21 g/kg. A total of 600, day-old male yellow-feathered broilers were randomly divided into four groups with three replicates of 50 chicks each. A corn-SBM based control diet was formulated and the experimental diets included 4, 8 or 12% FCSM, replacing SBM. Throughout the experiment, broilers fed 8% FCSM had higher (p<0.05) body weight gain than those fed 0, 4 and 12% FCSM. The feed intake in 8% FCSM group was superior (p<0.05) to other treatments from d 21 to 42. On d 21, the concentration of serum immunoglobin M in the 4% and 8% FCSM groups, as well as the content of complements (C3, C4) in 8% FCSM group were greater (p<0.05) than those in the SBM group. Besides, birds fed 8% FCSM had increased (p<0.05) serum immunoglobin M, immunoglobulin G and complement C4 levels on d 42 compared with bird fed control diet. No differences (p>0.05) were found between treatments regarding the serum biochemical parameters and the relative weights of immune organs. In conclusion, FCSM can be used in broiler diets at up to 12% of the total diet and an appropriate replacement of SBM with FCSM may improve growth performance and immunity in broilers.
