This paper describes a rollover index (RI)-based rollover mitigation control (RMC) system. A rollover index which indicates an impending rollover has been developed by a roll dynamics phase plane analysis. The rollover index is calculated using the roll angle, the roll rate, the lateral acceleration and time to wheel lift (TTWL). A differential braking control law based on a 2-D bicycle model has been designed using the direct yaw control (DYC) method. An RMC threshold has been determined from the rollover index. The performance of the RMC scheme and the effectiveness of the proposed rollover index are illustrated using a vehicle simulator.

In this study the attitude control of the KOREASAT is investigated. The KOREASAT is a geostationary satellite and its 3 attitude angles, namely, roll, pitch and yaw angles, are stabilized by using the 3-axis stabilization technique. In the pitch control loop, the pitch attitude angle received from the earth sensor is processed in the attitude processing electronics by using PI type control logic, and the control command is sent to the momentum wheel assembly to generate the control torque by varying the wheel rate. The roll/yaw attitude control is performed by activating a magnetic torquer or by firing appropriate thrusters. The magnetic torquer interacts with the earth magnetic field to produce the control torque, and the thrusters are used to control the larger roll attitude errors. In this study dynamic modelling of the satellite is performed. And the earth sensor, the momentum wheel, and the magnetic torquer are mathematically modelled. The 3-axis attitude control logic is implemented to make the closed-loop system and simulations are carried out to verify the implemented control laws.
This paper presents a engine/brake integrated VDC(Vehicle Dynamic Control) system using neural network algorithm methods for wheel slip and yaw rate control. For stable performance of vehicle, not only is the lateral motion control(wheel slip control) important but the yaw motion control of the vehicle is crucial. The proposed NNPI(Neural Network Proportional-Integral) controller operates at throttle angle to improve the performance of wheel slip. Also, the suggested NNPID controller performs at brake system to improve steering performance. The proposed controller consists of multi-hidden layer neural network structure and PID control strategy for self-learning of gain scheduling. Computer Simulation have been performed to verify the proposed neural network based control scheme of 17 dof vehicle dynamic model which is implemented in MATLAB Simulink.
Stabilized tracking platform in a missile consisting of a flat planar antenna, pitch/yaw gimbals, gear trains, and current controlled DC drive motors for pitch and yaw gimbal must have a capability to track a target as an inertial sensor in the presence of missile body motion such as maneuvering and vibration. Because of this reason, tracking a target from dynamic platform requires a servo architecture that includes a outer tracking loop(position loop) and inner rate loop that stabilizes the line of sight(LOS). This paper presents a gimbaled platform model including nonlinear phenomena due to viscous and Coulomb friction based on experimental data and torque equilibrium equation, the design concept for the inner tacholoop having P controller structure ...
The objective of this study was to develop a system for handwriting recognition in three dimensions (3D) to authenticate users. While previous studies have used a stylus pen for two-dimensional input on a tablet, this study uses the Wii Remote controller because it can capture 3D human motion and could therefore be more effective means of recognition. The information obtained from a Wii Remote controller included x and y coordinates, acceleration (x, y, z), angular velocity (pitch, yaw, roll), twelve input buttons, and time. The proposed system calculates distances using six features extracted after preprocessing the data. In an experiment where 15 subjects wrote "AIZU" 10 times, we obtained a 94.8% identification rate using a combination of writing velocity, the peak value of pitch, and the peak value of yaw. This suggests that this system holds promise for handwriting-based authentication in the future.
Free running model tests gives us only maneuvering indices not hydrodynamic derivatives. For this reason, system identification method has been applied to the measured data to identify mathematical model describing hydrodynamic force. However It is difficult to obtain complete set of maneuvering derivatives because of strong correlation of sway velocity and yaw rate. Therefore, in this paper, we assumed that sway velocity related coefficients would be obtained by oblique towing test. and then proposed new procedure to estimate yaw related coefficients. To do this, correlation and regression analyses were carried out to establish modified model and estimate maneuvering derivatives. Also D-optimal rudder input scenario was found based on the modified model and confirmed the validity of its sufficient richness as a input scenario.
In this study, handling simulation of a passenger car is carried out to see the effects of suspension compliance, roll stabilizef bar and chassis flexibility. The front suspension of the car is a MacPherson strut type and the rear suspension is a multi-link type. The following five DADS models are constructed and compared to verify the effects of suspension compliance and chassis flexibility during lane change. (1) Vdhicle model without hard point compliance and stabilizer, (2) Vehicle model with hard point compoiance, (3) Vehicle model with hard point compliance and stabilizer, (4) Vehicle model with hard point compoiance, stabilizer, and one vibration mode of the chaxxis. (5) Vehicle model with hard point compliance, stabilizer, and three vibration modes of the chassis. The result shows that hard point compliance and stabilizer are significant in roll angle, and the flexibility of the chassis affects the yaw angle and yaw rate.
this paper develops a computational model for the turning maneuver analysis of a cabover type heavy truck. The model having 42 degree-of-freedom is developed using ADAMS. Leaf springs used in the front and rear suspension systems are modeled by dividing it three links and joining them with joints. Force and displacement relationship showing nonlinear hysteric characteristics of the leaf spring is measured and modeled with an exponential function. A velocity and force relationship of a shock absorber is measured and modeled with a spline function. And a stabilizer bar is modeled using ADAMS beam element to consider a twisting and bending effect. To verify the developed model an actual vehicle test is performed in the double lane change course with 50kph and 60kph vehicle velocity. In the actual vehicle test lateral acceleration roll angle and yaw rate are measured, The tendency and peak-to-peak values of the actual vehicle test and simultion results are compared each other.
This paper develops a computer model for estimating the handling of a cabover type large-sized truck. The truck is composed of front and rear suspension systems, a frame, a cab, and ten tires. The computer model is developed using ADAMS. A shock absorber, a rubber bush, and a leaf spring aunt a lot on the dynamic characteristic of the vehicle. Their stiffness and damping coefficient are measured and used as input data of the computer model. Leaf springs in the front and rear suspension systems are modeled by dividing them three links and joining them with joints. To improve the reliability of the developed computer model, the frame is considered as a flexible body. Thus, the frame is modeled by finite elements using MSC/PATRAN. A mode analysis is performed with the frame model using MSC/NASTRAN in order to link the frame model to the computer model. To verify the reliability of the developed computer model, a double lane change test is performed with an actual vehicle. In the double lane change, lateral acceleration, yaw rate, and roll angle are measured. Those test results are compared with the simulation results.
