  • For identifying how a sample knit fabric is woven a method to obtain positional information of each yarn of the sample from voxel data made out of its x-ray CT images is newly proposed in this paper. The positional information is obtained by tracing the each yarn. The each yarn is traced by estimating a direction of the yarn in a certain small region in which the yarn can be regarded as straight and moving the region slightly along the estimated direction alternately. The yarn direction is estimated by correlating the voxel data in the region with a three-dimensional yarn model. The effectiveness of this method is confirmed by applying the method to voxel data made out of CT images of a knit fabric experimentally.

  • This study surveys the fiber behavior in yam formation and the Physical properties of Solo-spun yarn. The specimens were made by six types of Solo-spun rollers with fixed twist multiplier In the previous part, the physical properties such as yarn count, evenness, strength, and breaking elongation of these yams were compared with the properties of ring shun yarns and analysed with the mechanism of Solo-spun yarn formation. In the second part of this report, the abrasion resistance and hairiness were discussed wish respect to the micro yarn structures. The narrower the groove width of Solo-spun roller is, the more active the bulk fibers migration is. The Solo-spun film structure has two groups. One is shorter than the others one in longitudinal direction of yarn and has the same structure as ring-spun yarn, which is derided from the smooth zone on the surface of Solo-spun roller. The other one is longer than the former and there are the wrapping fibers. This part is derived from the conflicted grooves on the surface of Solo-spun troller.

  • This paper reports the effects of bleaching of alpaca tops and dyeing of bleached alpaca tops/yarns on the quality of tops and yarns. A dark brown alpaca top was bleached with hydrogen peroxide. Two bleaching methods were tried for effectiveness of color removal. A portion of each bleached top was dyed after bleaching. Color parameters were examined for unbleached, bleached and bleached/dyed tops, these tops were then converted into yarns of different twist levels and counts using a worsted spinning system. Some of the bleached yarn from each bleaching method was dyed in a package dye vat to compare the difference of top dyeing versus yarn package dyeing on yarn quality. Fiber diameter, yarn strength, yarn evenness, yarn hairiness and fiber degradation were tested to examine the effects of bleaching and dyeing on these properties at top and yarn stages. A processing route for bleaching and dyeing alpaca fiber was recommended.

  • False twist texturing uses the thermoplastic property of synthetic yarn and produces a bulk and a stretch by giving the filament a permanent crimp. This study investigated the effects of false twist texturing parameters, disk/yarn(D/Y) and heater temperature, on the physical properties of nylon textured yarn. D/Y was a primary determinant of twist numbers of filaments and was proportionally increased with the twist numbers of filaments, resulting in an increase of crimp rigidity of the textured yarn. Heater temperature, a determinant of the heat setting of transformed filaments, was proportionally increased with the increase of crimp rigidity. Nylon 6 was partially melted at $190^{\circ}C$. This study consequently suggested the optimal parameters of nylon 6 85d/68f full-dull POY.

  • The thermal bonding PET fabrics were produced through high temperature steaming (HTS) of low melting PET yarn as warp and composite fancy yarn containing low melting PET yarn as weft. The low melting PET yarn of sheath-core structure consisted of a regular PET in core portion and low melting PET in sheath portion. The composite fancy yarn consisted of regular PET yarn as inner part and effect part and low melting PET yarn as binding part. This study was carried out to investigate the melting behavior of thermal bonded PET fabric, the effect of HTS on the thermal bonding, mechanical properties, and dyeing properties. The melting peak of low melting PET yarn showed two melting peaks caused by sheath-core structure. Almost the entire thermal bonding of the fancy PET fabrics containing low melting PET yarn has formed at $200^{\circ}C{\times}3min$ of HTS. The tensile strength in warp and weft direction of the fancy PET fabrics slightly decreased as temperature of HTS increased. The total K/S value of the fancy PET fabrics decreased slightly to $180^{\circ}C{\times}3min$ of HTS, while increased slightly above $200^{\circ}C{\times}3min$ of HTS. The changes in the hue angle ($H^{\circ}$) of the thermal bonded fancy PET fabrics dyed with disperse dyes hardly ever happened.

  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate physiological response and subjective sensation of functional knitwears with different materials and designs. The three different types of knitwears were knitted(polar-neck with cotton/chitosan-C, V-neck with cotton/chitosan-CV and polar neck with cotton/chitosan/silver yarn-CS) and evaluated by four healthy female subjects. Eardrum temperature, mean skin temperature, clothing microclimate, and heart rate were measured in climatic chamber($30^{\circ}C$, 50%RH, 0.5m/sec). The results were as follows. 1. Eardrum temperature was generally evaluated as lower in CV and CS than in C. Mean skin temperature was lower in knitwears with silver yarn than in knitwears without silver yarn. 2. Clothing microclimate temperature on the chest was lower in knitwears with silver yarn than in knitwears without silver yarn. 3. Clothing microclimate humidity was generally lower knitwears with silver yarn than knitwears without silver yarn. 4. Heart rate was lower in knitwears with silver yarn than in knitwears without silver yarn and lower in V-neck than in polar neck. 5. Thermal sensation was slightly warmer in knitwears without silver yarn than in knitwears with silver yarn. Overall comfort sensation was evaluated as more comfortable in CV and CS than in C.

  • In this paper, a novel method for analyzing a textile fabric structure is proposed to segment each yarn of the textile fabric from voxel data made out of its X-ray computed tomography (CT) images. In order to segment the each yarn, directions of fibers, of which yarn consists, are firstly estimated by correlating the voxel with a fiber model. Second, each fiber is reconstructed by clustering the voxel of the fiber using the estimated fiber direction as a similarity. Then, each yarn is reconstructed by clustering the reconstructed fibers using a distance which is newly defined as a dissimilarity. Consequently, each yarn of the textile fabric is segmented from the voxel data. The effectiveness of the proposed method is confirmed by experimentally applying the method to voxel data of a sample plain woven fabric, which is made of polyester two folded yarn. The each two folded yarn is correctly segmented by the proposed method.

  • We selected 100% cotton fabric, 100% Hanji yarn fabric and two kinds of cotton / Hanji yarn blended fabrics and fused them with three kinds of interlinings in order to examine changes to the physical properties and the post-adhesion physical properties of Hanji yarn blended fabrics. Changes in KES values were examined after fusing. First, EM, B, 2HB, MMD values of Hanji yarn blended fabrics were higher than cotton fabric, and LT, RT, G, 2HG, LC, WC values of cotton fabric were higher than Hanji yarn blended fabrics. Tensile recovery was lowered, bending stiffness was increased, and shear stiffness was lowered when Hanji yarn was mixed. Second, the KES value of LT, B, 2HB, G, 2HG, LC, WC increased after fusing, while the EM, MMD values decreased. SMD was shown to decrease or increase depending on the type of fabric. The adhesive effect on bending stiffness and shear stiffness due to the mixing of Hanji shows a different tendency in the comparison of αB and αG.

  • In the single yarn spinning process by the ring spinning system, the finer the fineness of yarn and the lower the twist coefficient, the lower the breaking strength and breaking elongation. The change of yarn specific volume to yarn number agreed with Peirce's formula in the range of Ne 50 to 70, but above that range the values of the experiment are higher than that of the formula. The change of diameter of yarn to the reciprocal of the square root of yarn number agreed with Peirce's formula in the range of under 0.14, but above that value the values of the experiment are higher than that of the formula. In breaking strength variation according to twist constant of single yarn, as the twist coefficient increased, breaking strength increased. At 5.8∼6.0 of twist coefficient the maximum breaking strength was shown, but above that value breaking strength decreased. Breaking elongation also showed a similar tendency. But at 6.0∼6.5 of twist coefficient the maximum breaking elongation was shown. Also spinning tension increased as twist coefficient increased. Twist coefficient, breaking strength and breaking elongation according to the number of coils stayed almost the same. Yarn spinning tension according to the number of coils at the maximum of diameter was the lowest value. The speed of the traveller at the maximum of diameter was the highest value.

  • To develop cool touch feeling fabrics for summer clothing material, it was manufactured several compositions of woven fabrics, having rayon multi-filament yarn (non-twisted) as warp and various kinds of yarn, such as viscose rayon multi-filament yarn (twisted), tencel$^{(R)}$ spun yarn, PET high absorbance quick dry filament yarn, and PET based rayon-like yarn, as weft. After preparing the fabrics, basic properties of the fabrics were investigated, such as air-permeability, tensile strength, absorption rate, drying rate, etc. Also, surface warm / cool sensations of the woven fabrics were assessed by Qmax Warm / Cool Touch Tester. It was observed that the fabrics composed of viscose rayon multi-filament yarn (warp) and PET high absorbance quick dry filament yarn (weft) showed excellent surface cool touch sensation-the highest Qmax value. This is because the fabric having flat shaped PET high absorbance quick dry filament shows the largest contact area with Qmax measuring plate. And, the fabric also showed superior high absorbance and quick dry property as expected. In addition, we treated phase change material (PCM) on the surface of the fabric composed of viscose rayon multi-filament yarn (warp) and PET high absorbance quick dry filament yarn(weft) to improve the cool touch feeling. However, the surface cool touch feeling was impaired by resin treated with PCM during the finishing process.
