1. Objectives: This paper investigates the origin, the progressive changes and the constructive principles of Yangkyuksanhwa-tang (凉膈散火湯). 2. Methods: Yangkyuksanhwa-tang and other related prescriptions were analyzed in terms of their pathological indications, based on previous literature including "Donguisusebowon Chobongwon (東醫壽世保元 草本卷)", "Donguisusebowon Gabobon (東醫壽世保元 甲午本)", "Donguisusebowon Sinchukbon (東醫壽世保元 辛丑本)" and "Dongmuyugo (東武遺稿)". 3. Results and Conclusion: 1) The Yangkyuksanhwa-tang most likely originates from Sodokeum, Yangkyuksan, Baekho-tang and Indongdeung. 2) Sodoksanhwa-tang introduced in "Donguisusebowon Chobongwon (東醫壽世保元 草本卷)" progressively transformed into Chungyangsanghwa-tang ("Donguisusebowon Gabobon (東醫壽世保元 甲午本)") and ultimately into Yangkyuksanhwa-tang ("Donguisusebowon Sinchukbon (東醫壽世保元 辛丑本)"), a prescription appropriate for usage in the Sangso symptomatology (上消證). 3) Yangkyuksanhwa-tang is composed of 9 herbs. Of these, Schixonepetae herba(荊芥), Ledebouriellae Radix(防風), Forsythiae fructus(連翹), Menthae Herba(薄荷), Gardeniae fructus(梔子) scatter the Hwa-qi(火氣), and Rehmanniae Radix(生地黃), Gypsum fibrosum(石膏), Anemarrhenae(知母) put off the Stomach-heat(胃熱), whereas Lonicerae caulis(忍冬藤) support the prevention of carbunculosis(癰疽).

1. Objectives: The aim of this study is data analysis for acute toxicity and safety of Yangkyuksanhwa-tang. 2. Methods: We investigated the acute toxicity for water-extracted Yangkyuksanhwa-tang. 25 male and 25 female mice were observed for 14 days after one day oral administration of Yangkyuksanhwa-tang at the respective doses of 0(control group), 2560, 3200, 4000 and 5000 mg/kg. 3. Results: We observed survival rates, general toxicity, change of body weight and autopsy. 4. Conclusions: The data confirmed that Yangkyuksanhwa-tang is free from the toxicity and safety problems in oral route respectively. Compared with the control group, we could not find any toxic alteration in all treated groups(2560, 3200, 4000 and 5000 mg/kg). In conclusion, LD50 of Yangkyuksanhwa-tang was over 5000 mg/kg and it is very safe to mice.

1. Objectives Yangkyuksanhwa-tang is used mush in pruritus and dermatopathy of Soyangin. It is suggested this prescription is effective on atopy dermatitis. 2. Methods For observation of Yangkyuksanhwa-tang effected to atopic dermatitis, extract of Yangkyuksanhwa-tang has been dispensed to the stratum corneum of epithelium in dermatome of murine after making damage to its defense mechanism against fat and causing atopic dermatitis artificially. After that, the change in outer dermatome and minute mechanism of epidermis, the change of eosinophil, the change in distribution of soybean agglutinin, the change in distribution of fat and ceramide in stratum corneum, the change in inflammation in dermatome, the change of cell accrementition and apoptosis, and the effect on anaphylaxis and Staphylococcus aureus was observed. 3. Results After administration of Yangkyuksanhwa-tang, severe skin damage such as eczema and psoriasis, that was observed in the case of atopy dermatitis, was decreased and the increase of eosinophil in serum was suppressed. Lipid lamella was recovered, so epidermal demage was relieved. The distribution of HSP70 in the outer skin was decreased. Yangkyuksanhwa-tang suppressed activation of $NF-_{\kappa}B$ p50, induced CD11/18b not to be generated, and suppressed inflammatory response of skin. Anaphylaxis and groth of Staphylococcus aureus was suppressed. 4. Conclusions Yangkyuksanhwa-tang decreased skin damage of atopy dermatitis. It has antibiosis about Staphylococcus aureus, it can be medicinal substances on atopy dermatitis. In addition, it is possible that it can be medicinal substances on regional skin allergy.

1. Objectives Hiccup is one of common symptoms clinically and caused by various etiologies. Persistent hiccup is defined as hiccup lasting more than 48 hours. We have tried researching effect of herbal medicines(Dokhwaljihwang-tang, Yangkyuksanhwa-tang). 2. Methods To heal the persistent hiccup, we used Dokhwaljihwang-tang and Yangkyuksanhwa-tang. 3. Results A Soyangin patient diagnosed to have persistent hiccup was, treated with Soyangin herbal medicines (Dokhwaljihwang-tang and Yangkyuksanhwa-tang), and change of his symptom & general condition was managed. 4. Conclusions The constitutional treatment with Soyangin herbal medicines(Dokhwaljihwang-tang, Yangkyuksanhwa-tang) may have an effect on management of persistent hiccup. Further study on management of this disease is needed.

1. Objectives: The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effects of Yangkyuksanhwa-tang which is based on sasang constitutional medicine for dermatitis as psoriasis, atopic dermatitis. 2. Methods: This two patients were treated by Soyangin's constitutional medications according to the result of sasang constitutional diagnosis. We evaluated the severity in dermatitis that two methods ; doctor's view and patient's subjective itching. 3. Results & Conclusoins: This cases study shows an efficent result of using Yangkyuksanhwa-tang in treatment of dermatitis as psoriasis, atopic dermatitis.

1. Objectives Purpose of this case is to evaluate the effect of Soyangin Yangkyuksanhwa-tang on the hemichorea caused by hypothalamic infarction. 2. Methods The patient was treated with Yangkyuksanhwa-tang, acupuncture treatment and western medicine. The symptom changes of his hemichorea symptoms were evaluated in hospital. 3. Results and Conclusions After we treated him with Yangkyuksanhwa-tang, his symptoms were decreased.

1. Objectives The purpose of this case study is to evaluate the effects of Yangkyuksanhwa-tang which is based on Sasang Constitutional Medicine for strabismus of abducence nerve paralysis. 2. Methods This patient was created by Soyangin's Constitutional Medications according to the result of Sasang Constitutional diagnosis. We evaluated the abduction deficit that described how to use Scott and kraft. 3. Results & Conclusions This case study shows an efficient result of using Yangkyuksanhwa-tang in treatment of Strabismus of abducence nerve paralysis.

Objectives This study's object was to observe the comparative effects of Yangkyuksanhwa-tang, Palmulgunja-tang and Cheongpyesagan-tang on the chronic LT4(levothyroxine) induced hyperthyroidism in rats.Methods Six groups, each of 8 rats in group, were used in this study. Saline and distilled water treated rats are intact control group. Hyperthyroidism was induced by daily subcutaneous LT4 300 μg/kg treatment for 27 days(LT4 control). Since 12th LT4 treatment PTU(propylthiouracil) 10 mg/kg was intraperitoneal injected(PTU group) and aqueous extracts of Yangkyuksanhwa-tang, Palmulgunja-tang and Cheongpyesagan-tang(YS, PG and CS) 500 mg/kg were orally administrated(YS, PG, CS group), once a day for 15 days. The differences in the body, thyroid gland and epididymal fat pad weights, serum T3(tri-iodothyronine), T4(thyroxine), TSH(thyroid-stimulating hormone), thyroid gland and epididymal fat pad histopathology, liver weight, AST(asparte aminotransferase), ALT(alanine aminotransferase) concentrations, hepatic lipid peroxidation, GSH(glutathione), SOD(superoxide dismutase), CAT(catalase) activities, liver histopathology were observed to evaluate effects on hyperthyroidism, liver damages and antioxidant effects.Results As results of LT4 treatment, hyperthyroidism and related liver damages such as lower body, thyroid weights, higher serum T3, T4, AST, ALT levels, thinner follicular lining epithelium in thyroid glands were observed. However, these symptoms were inhibited by oral treatment of YS, PG and CS. As compared with PTU treatment, these herbal prescriptions showed lower overall efficacy on the hyperthyroidism, but YS showed more favorable effects on the hepatic antioxidant defense systems.Conclusions This results suggest that YS, PG and CS favorably control the LT4 induced hyperthyroidism and related liver damages in rats through modulation of the hepatic antioxidative defense systems.

1. Objectives The purpose of this case is to report that a Soyangin Heat sensation in the chest patient Diagnosed as Hyperthyroidism was treated with 'Yangkyuksanhwa-tang' and Antithyroid drugs in conjunction and then her symptom and thyroid function test results improved. 2. Methods We diagnosed her Hypetthyroidism on Soyangin Syndrome. So we treated her with 'Yangkyuksanhwa-tang' and Antithyroid drugs in combination. 3. Results This patient's symptom and thyroid function test results were improved 4. Conclusions By a combined treatment on a Soyangin Heat sensation in the chest patient Diagnosed as Hypetthyroidism, her symptom and thyroid function test results were improved. This case study showed an efficient results by giving Yangkyuksanhwa-tang in treatment of Soyangin Heat sensation in the chest patient.

1. Objective: This study is about a Soyangin patient with vertigo after subarachnoid hemorrhage. In this study, we report the effects of Sasang constitutional treatment to this patient. 2. Methods: This patient was treated by Soyangin's constitutional medications and acupunture according to the result of Sasang constitutional diagnosis. 3. Results and Conclusions: This patient's chief complaints were vertigo and gait disturbance. By using Yangkyuksanhwa-tang mainly, she showed positive response about her symptom. This study shows that Yangkyuksanhwa-tang has effect to vertigo in Soyangin.
