  • Finite failure NHPP models presented in the literature exhibit either constant, monotonic increasing or monotonic decreasing failure occurrence rates per fault. In this paper, Goel-Okumoto and Yamada-Ohba-Osaki model was reviewed, proposes the Kappa(2) reliability model, which can capture the nomotonic decreasing nature of the failure occurrence rate per fault. Algorithm to estimate the parameters used to maximum likelihood estimator and bisection method, model selection based on sum of the squared errors and Kolmogorov distance, for the sake of efficient model, was employed. Analysis of failure using real data set, SYS2(Allen P.Nikora and Michael R.Lyu), for the sake of proposing two parameter of the Kappa distribution, was employed. This analysis of failure data compared with the Kappa model and the existing model using arithmetic and Laplace trend tests, bias tests is presented.

  • A single specimen (273.1 mm in standard length) of the monacanthid Thamnaconus tessellatus was caught by one-boat trawl from western Jeju Island and then collected at Busan Cooperative Fish Market (BCFM) on 30 May 2015. The specimen is characterized by both head and body with many dark brown spots densely, posterior margin of caudal fin no black, first dorsal spine originates the posterior half of eye, and 34~37 dorsal fin rays. This is the first record of T. tessellatus in Korea; we therefore add the species to the Korean fish fauna. According to the Yamada et al. (1995), we propose the Korean name, "Nam-byeol-jwi-chi" for this species.

In this paper, Goel-Okumoto and Yamada-Ohba-Osaki model was reviewed, proposes the $x^2$ reliability model, which can capture the increasing nature of the failure occurrence rate per fault. Algorithm to estimate the parameters used to maximum likelihood estimator and bisection method, model selection based on SSE, AIC statistics and Kolmogorov distance, for the sake of efficient model, was employed. Analysis of failure using real data set, SYS2(Allen P.Nikora and Michael R.Lyu), for the sake of proposing shape parameter of the $x^2$ distribution using the degree of freedom, was employed. • Yamada's mountain ordering is to be said as an upward system, because the area and volume of the mountains become the larger as more than two lower order mountains constitute the higher order mountain. However, his mountain ordering shows some limitations to totally understand the mountain systems and to systematically manage the various kinds of mountainous informations. Because the independent third, fourth and so on, as well as the second lower order mountains are included in the higher order mountain. In order to solve the problem above, the downward system is suggested as the alternative of his upward system. The downward system means that the higher order mountain is classified into the second lower order mountains, and the second lower order mountain is classified into the third lower order mountains and finally the 2nd order mountain classified into the 1st order mountains. The method to classify a certain mountain systematically into all mountainous elements and the new nomenclature to be used for the classified elements are developed, using the downward system above. And the structure of database could be also suggested for the integrated and systematic management of mountain informations.

  • The failure load and mode of the unidirectional and fabric hybrid composite laminate joints are studied by test and finite element analysis. Test is conducted for the specimens with nine various geometries under pin loading. Finite element analysis is performed considering the contact and friction effects between the pin and laminate by MSC/NASTRAN. Failure is estimated by Tsai-Wu and Yamada-Sun criteria on the characteristic curve. While the failure of the specimens with the small width and edge length are much affected by the joint geometry, the geometry effects are negligible in the specimens with large width and edge length. Finite element analysis based on the characteristic length method reasonably predicts the failure load and mode of the joints.

  • A 9-node degenerated shell finite element(FE), which has been developed for assessment of ultimate pressure capacity and nonlinear analysis for nuclear containment building is described in this paper. Reissner-Midnlin(RM) assumptions are adopted to develop the shell FE so that transverse shear deformation effects is considered. Material model for concrete prior to cracking is constructed based on the equivalent stress-equivalent strain relationship. Tension stiffening model, shear transfer mechanism and compressive strength reduction model are used to model the material behavior of concrete after cracking. Niwa and Aoyagi-Yamada failure criteria have been adapted to find initial cracking point in compression-tension and tension-tension region, respectively. Finally, the performance of the developed program is tested and demonstrated with several examples. From the numerical tests, the present results show a good agreement with experimental data or other numerical results.

  • Morphological features of the two Korean Acrosorium species, A. flabellatum Yamada and A. venulosum (Zanardini) Kylin (Delesseriaceae, Rhodophyta) are described based on specimens collected from several localities along the coasts of Korea. Acrosorium flabellatum is easily distinguished from other Acrosorium species in lacking rhizoids in branchlets for attachment to substratum. The flabellate branching is also characteristic for this species. By contrast, Acrosorium venulosum is distinct from others in having the unique hooked branchlets. Taxonomic features found in the Korean Acrosorium species are compared, and a key to the species is provided based on this and previous data.

  • Molecular assembling is one of the current interests in the field of bottom-up nanotechnology. Self-assembled monolayers of sulfur-containing molecules or supramolecular assemblies via surface sol-gel processes formed on conductive supports are chemically robust and can be easily fabricated without sophisticated instruments. We have fabricated various types of molecular assemblies consisting of donor-acceptor pairs on the surfaces of gold and indium-tin-oxide electrodes. Build-up of three-dimensional multi structures consisting of thiol dyes and gold nanoparticles also has been successful. These assemblies showed clear photocurrent responses in photoelectro-chemical cells. In this article, we will describe recent progress on photoelectric conversion using molecular assemblies especially focused on our research results.
