Facial Regions Detection Using the Color and Shape Information in Color Still Images (컬러 정지 영상에서 색상과 모양 정보를 이용한 얼굴 영역 검출)

  • In this paper, we propose a face detection algorithm using the color and shape information in color still images. The proposed algorithm is only applied to chrominance components(Cb and Cr) in order to reduce the variations of lighting condition in YCbCr color space. Input image is segmented by pixels with skin-tone color and then the segmented mage follows the morphological filtering an geometric correction to eliminate noise and simplify the segmented regions in facial candidate regions. Multiple facial regions in input images can be isolated by connected component labeling. Moreover tilting facial regions can be detected by extraction of second moment-based ellipse features.

Advanced Retinex Algorithm for Image Enhancement (영상 선명화를 위한 개선된 Retinex 알고리즘)

  • The digital camera is impossible to preserve the appearance of a scene containing high dynamic range due to a limitations of the sensing hardware. The Retinex was proposed on the purpose to solve these problems. While the Retinex enhances visibility and color constancy, it sometimes suffers from color distortion, halo effect and reduced global contrast. This paper presents an advanced Retinex algorithm working on the YCbCr color coordinate to reduce the processing time and to improve the global contrast and color. Simulation results show that our algorithm significantly reduces the total processing time, and provide the superior result image by improving the global contrast and color consistency as well as by reducing the halo effect around the boundaries.

Robust Skin Area Detection Method in Color Distorted Images (색 왜곡 영상에서의 강건한 피부영역 탐지 방법)

  • With increasing attention to real-time body detection, active research is being conducted on human body detection based on skin color. Despite this, most existing skin detection methods utilize static skin color models and have detection rates in images, in which colors are distorted. This study proposed a method of detecting the skin region using a fuzzy classification of the gradient map, saturation, and Cb and Cr in the YCbCr space. The proposed method, first, creates a gradient map, followed by a saturation map, CbCR map, fuzzy classification, and skin region binarization in that order. The focus of this method is to rigorously detect human skin regardless of the lighting, race, age, and individual differences, using features other than color. On the other hand,the borders between these features and non-skin regions are unclear. To solve this problem, the membership functions were defined by analyzing the relationship between the gradient, saturation, and color features and generate 108 fuzzy rules. The detection accuracy of the proposed method was 86.35%, which is 2~5% better than the conventional method.

Color Improvement of Retinex Image Using the Maximum Color Difference Signal Table (최대 색차신호 표를 이용한 Retinex 영상의 컬러 향상)

  • Retinex algorithm enhances the contrast of image through visibility improvement. However, the conventional Retinex methods may produces color distortions due to error of hue representation and over-saturation since the methods work in RGB color space. In this paper, we propose a new Retinex algorithm with color correction, which improves contrast by using MSR(Multi-Scale Retinex) working in YCbCr color space and adaptively compensates the color saturation based on the maximum color difference table. Our algorithm maps the color difference signals to the correct gamut to prevent over-saturation phenomenon by considering the correlation between luminance and hue dependent saturation. Simulations results show that the proposed method gives better color improvement compared to the conventional methods.

  • 본 논문에서는 저해상도 휴대폰 컬러 영상을 대상으로 조명변화에 강인한 얼굴 영역 자동 검출 방법을 제안한다. 얼굴 영역 추출을 위하여 대중화된 휴대폰 영상 가운데 저해상도 컬러 영상을 사용한다. 제안된 알고리즘은 조명에 의해 변화가 큰 영상의 질을 LB_MSR 알고리즘을 이용하여 향상시킨뒤, YCbCr 색공간에서 Cb, Cr과 Y성분을 모두 이용하여 얼굴 영역을 검출해낸다. 실험결과 조명변화가 존재하는 영상을 LB_MSR 방법으로 향상시킨뒤 Cb, Cr 그리고 Y를 이용함으로써 기존의 방법보다 얼굴 영역을 보다 정확하게 검출할 수 있음을 볼 수 있었다.

  • 본 논문에서는 출입국자 관리의 효율성과 체계적인 출입국 관리를 위하여 여권 코드를 자동으로 인식하고 위조 여권을 판별할 수 있는 여권 인식 및 얼굴 인증 방법을 제안한다. 본 논문의 구성은 여권 인식과 얼굴 인증 부분으로 구성되며, 여권 인식 부분에서는 소벨 연산자, 수평 최소값 필터 등을 적용한 후, 8 방향 윤곽선 추적 알고리즘을 적용하여 코드의 문자열 영역을 추출하고 기울기를 보정한다. 추출된 문자열은 반복 이진화 방법을 적용하여 코드의 문자열 영역을 이진화 한다. 이진화된 문자열 영역에 대해 8 방향 윤곽선 추적 알고리즘을 적용하여 개별 코드를 추출한 후에 SOM(Self-Organizing Maps) 알고리즘을 적용하여 여권 코드를 인식한다. 얼굴 인증 부분에서는 여권 사진 영역의 특징을 이용하여 얼굴 후보 영역을 추출한 후, RGB와 YCbCr 색공간에서 피부색 정보를 이용하여 얼굴 영역을 추출한다. 추출된 얼굴 영역은 PCA(Principal Component Analysis) 알고리즘을 적용하여 특징 벡터를 구하고 여권 코드가 인식된 결과를 바탕으로 여권 소지자의 데이터 베이스에 있는 얼굴 영상의 특징벡터와의 거리 값을 계산하여 사진 위조 여부를 판별한다. 제안된 여권 인식 및 얼굴 인증 방법의 성능 평가를 위하여 원본 여권의 얼굴 부분을 위조한 여권과 기울어진 여권 영상을 대상으로 실험한 결과, 제안된 방법이 여권의 코드 인식 및 얼굴 인증에 있어서 우수한 성능이 있음을 확인하였다.

Real-Time Face Detection based on Skin-Color and Lighting Compensation (색공간에서 피부색과 조명보정을 이용한 실시간 얼굴 영역 검출)

  • 본 논문에서는 실시간 영상을 대상으로 조명변화에 강인한 얼굴 영역 자동 검출 방법을 제안한다. 실시간 영상에서 가장 효율적이고 컴퓨터의 계산량을 줄일 수 있는 색상 정보를 이용하여 얼굴 영역을 추출함에 있어 색상 정보사용 시 단점인 외부 조명의 영향을 줄여주는 효과적인 조명 보정 방법을 제시하고 조명 보정에 의해 평활화된 영상에서 YCbCr 색상모델을 적용하여 얼굴 후보 영역을 검출하는 방법을 제시한다. 실험 결과 조명의 영향을 많이 받는 실시간 영상에서 적응적 조명 보정 방법으로 영상을 향상시킨 뒤 Cb, Cr 그리고 Y를 이용함으로서 기존의 방법보다. 얼굴 영역을 보다 정확하게 검출할 수 있음을 볼 수 있었다.

Analysis of Color Constancy Methods for Recovering Skin Color Independent of Illuminants (광원에 독립적인 피부색 복원을 위한 색 항등성 기법 분석)

  • The skin color has been used as important cues in the systems for detecting or recognizmg the face. However, the color difference in images under different illuminants makes it difficult to find out the skin in these systems. For solving the problem, this paper proposes a method of recovering skin colors based on well-known color constancy approaches, such as Retinex, Gray World, White Patch, and Simplified Horn. To acquire experimental images under the colored scene illumination, the effects of colored illuminants were added to source images. Next, result images, having the corrected skin color by the constancy methods, were derived from the source images. The experiment results showed that most of the skin colors in our experiments were recovered into some steady range in the color space, and that Gray World had higher performance than the other methods compared.

Real-Time face detection using the Skin color and Haar-like feature (피부색과 Haar-like feature를 이용한 실시간 얼굴검출)

  • Face detection in real-time video constitutes one of the major trend in face recognition. In this paper, we propose a face detection algorithm using the skin color and Haar-like feature in real-time video. The proposed algorithm is followed by three sequences; First, moving objects are detected by difference-method in YCbCr coordinates, and then by using Haar-like features, face candidate regions of the moving objects is selected. Finally we extract the most possible face candidates by comparing the pixel values of face candidates with the skin color. In order to prevent a mistake. we use similar features or skin color to detect a face by selecting a adaptive ROI and improve the processing speed in real-time video. The computer simulation shows the validity of the proposed method that the processing speed is improved by 30% than previous works and the detection success rate is 96.8%.

  • Localizing an object in image is a common task in the field of computer vision. As the existing methods provide a detection for the single object in an image, they have an utilization limit for the use of the application, due to similar objects are in the actual picture. This paper proposes an efficient method of object localization for image recognition. The new proposed method uses color correlation back-projection in the YCbCr chromaticity color space to deal with the object localization problem. Using the proposed algorithm enables users to detect and locate primary location of object within the image, as well as candidate regions can be detected accurately without any information about object counts. To evaluate performance of the proposed algorithm, we estimate success rate of locating object with common used image database. Experimental results reveal that improvement of 21% success ratio was observed. This study builds on spatially localized color features and correlation-based localization, and the main contribution of this paper is that a different way of using correlogram is applied in object localization.
