Fabrication of Thin $YBa_{2}Cu_{3}O_{7-\delta}$ Films on $CeO_2$Buffered Sapphire Substrate Using Combined Sputter and Pulsed Laser Deposition (스퍼터링과 펄스 레이저를 이용하여 $CeO_2$완충층 위에 층착된 $YBa_{2}Cu_{3}O_{7-\delta}$박막의 제작)

  • For the c-axis oriented epitaxial YBa$_2$Cu$_3$O$_{7-{\delta}}$ thin film on r-cut sapphire substrate it is necessary to deposit buffer layers. The CeO$_2$buffer layer was deposited on sapphire substrate using RF magnetron sputtering system. We investigated XRD pattern of CeO$_2$thin films at various sputtering conditions such as sputtering gas ratio, sputtering power, target to substrate distance, sputtering pressure and substrate temperature. The optimum condition was 15 mTorr with deposition pressure, 1:1.2 with $O_2$and Ar ratio and 9cm with target to substrate distance. The CeO$_2$(200) peak was notable for a deposition temperature above 75$0^{\circ}C$. The YBa$_2$Cu$_3$O$_{7-{\delta}}$ was deposited on CeO$_2$buffered r-cut sapphire substrate using pulsed laser ablation. The YBa$_2$Cu$_3$O$_{7-{\delta}}$CeO$_2$(200)/A1$_2$O$_3$thin film was exhibited a critical temperature of 89K.xhibited a critical temperature of 89K.

Fine YBaCuO Powder Prepared by Sol-gel Method

  • In order to get proper original suspension for the electrophoresis process of making YBaCuO films, YBaCuO superconductor powder was prepared with the Sol-gel method. The composition of the powder was analyzed by X-ray diffraction, which was identified as YBa$_2$Cu$_3$O$\sub$7-x/(Yl23) phase. The form of YBaCuO single particle was showed to be spherical by scanning electronic microscope and its size was among 0.2-1 $\mu\textrm{m}$. The critical transition temperature (T$\sub$c/) and the critical current density (J$\sub$c/) were measured with the four-probe, method. The T$\sub$c/ was about 91 K, and the J$\sub$c/ was 5-30 A/$\textrm{cm}^2$.

  • High-Tc YBa2Cu3O7-x superconducting thin films have been prepared by single-target off-axis RF magnetron sputtering. Optimal ratio of Y : Ba : Cu of the single-target was determined as 1 : 1.65 : 3.35 in order to obtain the stoichiometric films. Tc, crystalline phase, and microstructures of the surface and cross-section of the ex-situ YBa2Cu3O7-x thin films on MgO(100) had a Tc, zero of 80K, and the films on LaAlO3/Si had a Tc, on-set of 90 K and a Tc, zero of 70 K.

  • This aim of this study was to develop a process for creating bulk single-crystal YBaCuO superconductors in a high magnetic field. To support the bulk unidirectional growth of $YBa_2Cu_3O_{7-y}$, $SmBa_2Cu_3O_{7-y}$ seeds were planted inside YBaCuO composites and samples were produced by melting, enabling the growth of two YBaCuO superconductors. Due to the magnetism generated inside the superconductor of the upper sample, the magnetization inside the superconducting single crystals was evenly distributed, the sharpness of the induced magnetic force was improved, and the superconducting magnetization were significantly improved. This approach is widely applicable for the production of superconducting wires and current leads used for DC power breakers.

  • Ferroelectric Bi4Ti3012 thin films have been grown on LaAlO(001) by Pulsed-laser deposition. Phase formation and structural films prepared of the films prepared at varigus deposition temperatures are investigated using x-ray diffraction The film grown at 740℃ shows epitaxial growth behavior with c-akis normal to the substrate. N2tBmstiucCures of Bi4Ti3012/YBa2Cu307-x/LaAIO3(001) have been in-situ grown. Even though the a-and b-axes of the Yba2Cu307-x layer show epitaxial growth behavior.

  • Degradation of the 90 K superconductor $YBa_2Cu_3O_{7-{\delta}}$ in water and humid atmosphere were studied and its decomposition products were identified as $BaCO_3$, CuO, $Y_2(CO_3)_3{\cdot}3H_2O$ and $O_2$. XRD analysis, iodometric titration and IR-spectroscopy of the degraded samples suggest that the $YBa_2Cu_3O_{7-{\delta}}$ decomposes in three steps such as the reduction of $Cu^{3+}$ to $Cu^{2+}$, followed by the hydroxylation of $Ba^{2+}$ and $Y^{3+}$ via hydration and finally the formation of carbonates through the uptake of ambient $CO_2$.

  • The submicron $YBa_2Cu_3O_x$ powder was prepared by the sol-gel method. The particle size is distributed from 0.2 to $1.0\;{\mu}m$, which benefits to eliminate the micro-cracks formed in the $YBa_2Cu_3O_x$ films deposited by electrophoresis. The powder was single phase of $YBa_2Cu_3O_x$ examined by X-ray diffraction. In the sol-gel process the citrate gel was formed from citric acid and nitrate solution of $Y_2O_3$, $Ba(NO_3)O_2$ and CuO. When pH values were adjusted to $6.4{\sim}6.7,\;Ba(NO_3)O_2$ could be dissolved in the citrate solution completely. Appropriate evaporative temperature of the sol-gel formation is discussed. After the heat treatment the transition temperature($T_c$) and critical current density($J_c$) of the $YBa_2Cu_3O_x$ samples made of the submicron powder were measured.

  • We have carried out an extended Huckel calculation to rationalize the role of $CuO_3$ chains and the size effect of the charged model clusters for the following charged model culsters : ${{Cu_6}{O_{21}}^{28-},\;{{Cu_6}{O_{22}}^{30-}\;,{{Cu_9}{O_{30}}^{39-}\;,{{Cu_9}{O_{32}}^{43-}\;,{{Cu_{12}{O_{38}}^{48-}\;,{{Cu_{15}{O_{50}}^{65-}\;,{{Cu_{18}{O_{54}}^{66-}\;,{{Cu_{18}{O_{55}}^{68-}\;,{{Cu_{24}{O_{70}}^{84-}\;and\;{{Cu_{27}{O_{78}}^{93-}$ for high-$T_c$ superconductor $YBa_2Cu_3O_7$: ${{Cu_6}{O_{18}}^{22-}\;,{{Cu_9}{O_{26}}^{31-}}\;,{{Cu_{12}{O_{32}}^{36-}\;,{{Cu_{15}{O_{42}}^{49-}\;,{{Cu_{18}{O_{46}}^{50-}\;,{{Cu_{24}{O_{60}}^{64-}\;and\;{{Cu_{27}{O_{66}}^{69-}$ for insulator $YBa_2Cu_3O_6$. The results show that the electronic structures and properties of the charged model clusters relating to high-$T_c$ superconductor are very sensitive to the size change of the clusters with various environmental effects, wherease those of the charged model clusters for insulator $YBa_2Cu_3O_6$ are monotonous to the size change. The $CuO_3$ chains along the b-direction may yield cooperative electronic coupling with the $CuO_2$ layers in determining both conducting and superconducting properties of $YBa_2Cu_3O_{7-x}$ system.

High $T_c$ Superconductors $LnBa_2Cu_3O_{7-\delta}$ from 2-Ethylhexanoate Precursors (2-Ethylhexanoate 화합물에서 제조한 고온초전도체 $LnBa_2Cu_3O_{7-\delta}$)

  • 2-Ethylhexanoate compounds which contained Y, Er, Yb, Ba, and Cu were prepared separately. These metallo-organic compounds were dissolved together in the common solvent and the solution was homogeneous. From these solution, high $T_c$ superconductors $YBa_2Cu_3O_{7-\delta}(Y_{123})$, $ErBa_2Cu_3O_{7-\delta}(Er_{123})$, and $YbBa_2Cu_3O_{7-\delta}(Yb_{123})$ were prepared. XRD analysis showed that these superconductors were not single phase and contained some impurity phases including $YBa_2Cu_4O_8(Y_{124})$. This was also confirmed from the magnetic susceptibility measurement. Generally, critical temperatures were higher than that of the superconductors prepared by ceramic method. Volume diamagnetic susceptibility showed little variation compared to the specimen made by ceramic method.
