Strength of Crack Healed-Specimen and Elastic Wave Characteristics of Al2O3/SiC Composite Ceramics (알루미나 탄화규소 복합세라믹스 균열치유재의 강도와 탄성파 특성)

  • [ $Al_2O_3/SiC$ ]composite ceramics were sintered to evaluate the bending strength and elastic wave characteristics. The three-point bending test was carried out under room temperature. The elastic wave was detected by fracture wave detector. The crack healing behavior was investigated from 1373 K to 1723 K. The bending strength of $Al_2O_3/SiC$ composite by nanocomposite is higher than that of $Al_2O_3$ monolithic. Crack-healing behavior depended on an amount of additive powder $Y_2O_3$. In $Al_2O_3/SiC$ composite ceramics with 3 wt. % $Y_2O_3$ for additive powder, the bending strength at 1573 K is about 100% increase than that of the smooth specimens. From the result of wavelet analysis of elastic wave signal, the smooth specimen and heat treated specimen of $Al_2O_3$ monolithic and $Al_2O_3/SiC$ composite ceramics showed characteristics of frequency about 58 kHz. The strength of $Al_2O_3/SiC$ composite ceramics was a little higher than those of $Al_2O_3$ monolithic. The dominant frequencies were high with increasing of $Y_2O_3$ for additive powder. The dominant frequencies had direct connection with the bending strength.

Phase Separation in $Nd_2$$O_3$-${Al_2}{O_3}-{SiO_2}-{TiO_2}$Glass ($Nd_2$$O_3$-${Al_2}{O_3}-{SiO_2}-{TiO_2}$유리계의 상분리현상)

  • TiO$_2$를 포함한 희토류 알루미노 규산염계 (NAS: Nd$_2$O$_3$-Al$_2$O$_3$-SiO$_2$) 유리의 상분리 현상에 대하여 연구되었다. 0~10wt%의 TiO$_2$포함한 NAS 조성은 유리전이온도(T$_{g}$) 부근에서 열처리하여 HF로 부식 후 주사전자현미경, 라만 및 IR 분석기로 상분리가 조사되었다. 그 결과로 상분리한 내부결정화는 8wt% 이상의 TiO$_2$를 포함한 NAS 조성에서 나타났다. 어닐링후 T$_{g}$ 부근에서 열처리의 결과는 투명 연핑크색의 유리를 불투명의 연푸른 우유빛 색으로 변하게 하였으며, Si와 Nd-Ti가 각각 풍부한 10$mu extrm{m}$ 이상과 0.1$\mu\textrm{m}$ 이하의 크기인 구형상의 영역으로 균일한 다상분리를 일으켰다. Nd$_2$O$_3$-Al$_2$O$_3$-SiO$_2$-TiO$_2$계에서 상분리는 내부 결정화와 관련하여 매우 중요한 인자로 확인되었다.

Fabrication of Bi based solder glass (Bi계 저융점 유리의 제조)

  • One of lead free glass, Bi based solder glass is investigated for electronic packaging application. The melting temperature of glass about $550^{\circ}C$ at Bi based glass (70wt% $B_2O_3$ + l5wt%$B_2O_3$ + 8wt% $SiO_2$ + 2wt% $P_2O_5$ + 4wt% $A1_2O_3$ +lwt% ZnO) and varied with $P_2O_5$ content in this system. Crystallized glasses were obtainded after 1hr heat teratment at $450^{\circ}C$ with 10wt% of $P_2O_5$ addition. Much higher melting temperature was observed at $B_2O_3$ rich composition area.

  • ZnO varistor with composition of ZnO(90wt%)-Bi$_2$O$_3$(3wt%)-Sb$_2$O$_3$(3.6wt%)-CO$_2$O$_3$(1.16wt%)-NiO(0.88wt%)-MnO$_2$(0.71wt%)-Cr$_2$O$_3$(0.93wt%) according to Al$_2$O$_3$addtive was fabricated by sintering methods. The effects of Al$_2$O$_3$dopant on the I-V characteristics of ZnO varistors were investigated. These changes of electric properties were found to be caused by the variation of grains and grain boundary related to Al$_2$O$_3$dopting. And the conductive mechanism of ZnO varistor in prebreakdown region were investigated with defect model.

  • Glasses of $SiO_2-B_{2}O_3-Al_{2}O_3-CaO-La_{2}O_3$ with various amounts of $La_{2}O_3$ were infiltrated into a porous alumina to make an alumina-glass composite. The infiltration characterization and bending strength of the composite were examined in terms of glass composition. $La_{2}O_3$ in the glass decreased the high temperature viscosity and this enhanced the wetting behaviour of this glass to alumina, and made glass infiltration easier. The infiltrated glass dissolved the alumina skeleton, and $Al_{2}O_3$ component in the glass melt reprecipitated on the alumina. The grain growth occurred to a specific crystal direction. The glass containing $20mole\%$ of $La_{2}O_3$ was crystallized after infiltration, and this enhanced the bending strength of the composite.

  • [ $ZnO-Bi_2O_3-Al_2O_3-B_2O_3-SiO_2$ ] nano-glass has been prepared by sol-gel method. The mean particle size was 60.3 nm with narrow size distribution. The nano-galss has been used as a sintering aid for the densification of the NiZnCu ferrites. The ferrite was sintered with nano-glass sintering aids at $840{\sim}900^{\circ}C$, 2 h and the initial permeability, quality factor, density, and saturation magnetization were also measured. The initial permeability of 0.5 wt% nano-glass added toroidal sample for NiZnCu ferrites sintered at $900^{\circ}C$ was 193.3 at 1 MHz. The initial permeability and saturation magnetization were increased with increasing annealing temperature. As a result, $ZnO-Bi_2O_3-Al_2O_3-B_2O_3-SiO_2$ nano-glass systems were found to be useful as sintering aids for multilayer chip inductors.

Flaw Tolerance of (Y,Nb)-TZP/${Al_2}{O_3}$Composites ((Y,Nb)-TZP/${Al_2}{O_3}$복합체의 결함 저항성)

  • 90.24 mol% ZrO$_2$-5.31 mol% $Y_2$O$_3$-4.45 mol% Nb$_2$O$_{5}$ 조성의 (Y,Nb)-TZP와 (Y,Nb)-TZP/Al$_2$O$_3$복합체를 155$0^{\circ}C$~1$600^{\circ}C$에서 1~2시간 소결하여 제조하였다. 시편의 결함에 대한 저항성을 조사하기 위하여 R-curve, Weibull modulus, slow crack growth 변수 등을 조사하였다. 실험결과, (Y,Nb)-TZP와 (Y,Nb)-TZP/Al$_2$O$_3$복합체 모두 상용 3Y-TZP 보다 우수한 결함 저항성이 관찰되었다. (Y,Nb)-TZP/Al$_2$O$_3$복합체의 결함 저항성은 $Al_2$O$_3$첨가에 의한 결정립 가교 인화, 분산강화, R-curve 효과에 의한 것으로 추정된다.

  • Encapsulation of organic based devices is essential issue due to easy deterioration of organic material by water vapor. Thin layer of encapsulation film is required to preserve transparency yet protecting materials in it. Atomic layer deposition(ALD) is a promising solution because of its low temperature deposition and quality of the deposited film. $Al_2O_3$ or $Al_2O_3/TiO_2/Al_2O_3$ multilayer film has shown excellent environmental protection characteristics despite of thin thicknesses of the films. $Al_2O_3/TiO_2/Al_2O_3$ multilayer and 1.5 dyad layer of $Al_2O_3/polymer/Al_2O_3$ deposited by ALD was measured to have water vapor transmittance rate(WVTR) well below the detection limit($5.0{\times}10^{-5}g/m^2day$) of MOCON Aquatran 2 equipment.

  • Synthesis of spinel pigment on ZnO-Fe2O3 system. The object of this research is the synthesis of new spinel pigments on the basic of ZnO-Fe2O3 system which was substituted by ZnO-Fe2O3 by MgO-Al2O3. This research was progressed by measuring the X-ray diffraction and the reflectances of the substitued ZnO-Fe2O3 group. Which was obtained by sintering at the temperature of 1,00$0^{\circ}C$, 1,10$0^{\circ}C$, 1,20$0^{\circ}C$ and 1,25$0^{\circ}C$ and them by regrinding. In order to coloring test, here basic compositions of Barium glaze, Zinc glaze, Lime glaze, Lead glaze and Talc glaze used in this experiment are obtained from the ceramic work. Adding synthetic stains in these basic glazes with 3%, mixing and glazing on the specimen. The specimens was fired at 1,28$0^{\circ}C$ in reducing and oxidizing atmosphere in the gas kiln. The results of the research as follow. 1. Many kinds of spinel pigment was produced on ZnO-Fe2O3 system that is to say, not always only spinel. 2. Spinel peak was observed strongly on the ZnO-Fe2O3 system withsubstituting by MgO-Fe2O3 and MgO-Al2O3 group(the ratio of MgO, Al2O3 being increased, observed more strongly). 3. The most effective temperature ranges was 1,20$0^{\circ}C$~1,25$0^{\circ}C$. 4. The color of spinel pigments on this system was observed by "stable YR". 5. It was yellow red in oxidizing and green in reducing atmosphere on the coloring test.ring test.
