The Effect of Different Reaction Path on the Microstructure of the Melt Processed Y-Ba-Cu-O Superconducting System (서로 다른 반응경로에 따른 일방향 용융공정된 Y-Ba-Cu-O계 Bulk초전도체의 미세구조 고찰)

  • 초기 혼합분말을 다르게 사용함으로써 다른 반응경로를 따라 성장된 일방향 집합조직 YB $a_{2}$BaCu $O_{5}$(Y211)형상과 분포가 초기 혼합분말이 달라짐에 따라 상당히 다르게 형성되었다. 여러 반응경로 중에서 $Y_{2}$ $O_{3}$+Y123$\longrightarrow$ $Y_{1.6}$Ba/ sub 2.2/ $O_{y}$와 ( $Y_{2}$ $O_{3}$BaCu $O_{2}$)+Y123$\longrightarrow$ $Y_{1.6}$B $a_{2.3}$C $u_{3.3}$ $O_{y}$반응에 의하여 용융공정된 경우 일방향 집합조직 Y 123 결정 성장이 잘 일어났으며, 특히 Y123의 포정반응 온도 이하의 낮은 온도에서도 결정성장이 일어났다. 또한 Y211입자 미세화가 다른 반응에 의한 용융공정보다 잘 일어났다. 이와같은 서로 다른 반응과정에 의하여 용융공정된 미세구조의 차이점들을 $Y_{2}$ $O_{3}$-BaO-CuO 3원계 상평형도를 이용하여 설명하였다.다.다.다.다.다.다.

  • Degradation of the 90 K superconductor $YBa_2Cu_3O_{7-{\delta}}$ in water and humid atmosphere were studied and its decomposition products were identified as $BaCO_3$, CuO, $Y_2(CO_3)_3{\cdot}3H_2O$ and $O_2$. XRD analysis, iodometric titration and IR-spectroscopy of the degraded samples suggest that the $YBa_2Cu_3O_{7-{\delta}}$ decomposes in three steps such as the reduction of $Cu^{3+}$ to $Cu^{2+}$, followed by the hydroxylation of $Ba^{2+}$ and $Y^{3+}$ via hydration and finally the formation of carbonates through the uptake of ambient $CO_2$.

  • The $Y_1Ba_2Cu_3O_{7-x}$(123) superconductor powders were prepared by pyrophoric synthesis method(PSM) using $Y_2O_3$(99.9%), $BaCO_3$(99.9%), and CuO(99.9%) powders. The phase formation and reaction kinetics of 123 superconductor manufactured with powders prepared in various pHs of pyrophoric synthetic solution have been studied through the experiments at various heat treatment temperatures and times. Inductively coupled plasma(ICP) spectroscopy and scanning electron microscopy(SEM) measurements were performed to examine the composition and morphology of the sample. X-ray diffraction(XRD) analysis was done to determine phase formation and conversion ratio of Y-Ba-Cu-O systems. The 123 powder prepared at pH 7(${\pm}0.3$) yields the best result in terms of purity, homogeneity, and reactivity. The activation energies(${\Delta}E_a$) of 123 phase formation were found to be 191 kJ/mol and 230kJ/mol in solid state reaction method and pyrophoric synthesis method, respectively.

  • The effect of Ba substitution for Sr on the lattice parameters and the temperature dependence of the thermoelectric power and electrical resistivity has been investigated for Y(Sr$_{2-x}$Ba$_x$)Cu$_{2.7}$Mo$_{0.3}$O$_z$ (x=0${\sim}$2.0). Both a and c lattice parameters increase as the Ba content, x increases. The correlation between Tc and the carrier concentration estimated from the thermoelectric power data indicates that the change of hole concentration is negligible for x ${\le}$ 1.0 in contrast to the large change for x > 1.

  • In order to investigate the effect of $SnO_2$ on the growth of 123 phase in Y-Ba-Cu-0 system, O.1Sn-doped 123+Sn compact was coupled with Sn-free 123 compact by placing the former on the latter. In case of the coupled samples which were held at $1100^{\circ}C$ for 24hr and then at $970^{\circ}C$ for lhr, 123 phase grew from the surface of O.1Sn-doped 123+Sn compact toward the inner of Sn-free 123 compact. In case of the coupled samples which were held at $1100^{\circ}C$ for 48hr and then at $970^{\circ}C$ for lhr, it was not the 123 phase but Ba-Y-Sn grains that were observed. Ba-Y-Sn grains with a shape of bar was composed of Ba : Y : Sn=5 : 3 : 2, approximately.

  • The structural and electric properties of $Y_{1-x}$YbF$_{x}$Ba$_{2}$Cu$_{3}$O$_{7-y}$(x=0.0, 0.1, 0.2, 0.3, 0.4, 0.5 and 0.6) have been investigated by using XRD(X-ray diffraction), TMA(thennomechanical analysis), NMR(nuclear magnetic resonance) analysis and four probe method. $Y_{1-x}$YbF$_{x}$Ba$_{2}$Cu$_{3}$O$_{7-y}$ samples were prepared by conventional solid-state reaction method using $Y_{2}$O$_{3}$, BaCO$_{3}$, CuO and YbF$_{3}$ power. TMA and high temperature XRD results shows that orthorhombic to tetragonal phase transition occurs in the unfluorinated 1-2-3 sample while the phase change is not observed in the fluorinated 1-2-3 samples. Superconducting transition temperature(T$_{c}$) increases with increasing YbF$_{3}$ content ; T$_{c}$, of the sample reaching maximum of 102K for x=0.3, and then decreases with further increasing YbF$_{3}$ content. The structural analysis and T$_{c}$ results shows that the fluorine doping stabilize the orthorhombic phase, together with the increase in T$_{c}$.}$ c/.TEX> c/.

Superconducting Properties of Large Single Grain Gd1.5Ba2Cu3O7-y Bulk Superconductors (대면적 단결정 Gd1.5Ba2Cu3O7-y 벌크 초전도체의 초전도 특성)

  • Large single grain $Gd_{1.5}Ba_2Cu_3O_{7-y}$ (Gd1.5) bulk superconductors were fabricated by a top-seeded melt growth (TSMG) process using an $NdBa_2Cu_3O_{7-y}$ seed. The seeded Gd1.5 powder compacts with a diameter of 50 mm were subjected to the heating cycles of a TSMG process. After the TSMG process, the diameter of the single grain Gd1.5 compact was reduced to 43 mm owing to the volume contraction during the heat treatment. The superconducting transition temperature ($T_c$) of the top surface of the single grain Gd1.5 sample was as high as 93.5 K. The critical current densities ($J_cs$) at 77 K and 1T and 1.5 T were in ranges of 25,200-43,900 $A/cm^2$ and 10,000-23,000 $A/cm^2$, respectively. The maximum attractive force at 77 K of the sample field-cooled using an Nd-B-Fe permanent magnet (surface magnetic field of 0. 527 T) was 108.3 N; the maximum repulsive force of the zero field-cooled sample was 262 N. The magnetic flux density of the sample field-cooled at 77 K was 0.311T, which is approximately 85% of the applied magnetic field of 0.375 T. Microstructure investigation showed that many $Gd_2BaCuO_5$ (Gd211) particles of a few ${\mu}m$ in size, which are flux pinning sites of Gd123, were trapped within the $GdBa_2Cu_3O_{7-y}$ (Gd123) grain; unreacted $Ba_3Cu_5O_8$ liquid and Gd211 particles were present near the edge regions of the single grain Gd1.5 bulk compact.
