Polyalkylsilanes such as poly(dialkyl)silanes and poly(monoalkyl)silanes were synthesized by sonochemical dechlorination-condensation method from (dialkyl or monoalkyl)chlorosilanes with sodium metal. Those polyalkylsilanes were analyzed for the properties such as thermal behaviors from TGA analysis and obtained ceramic yields of 10-20% for poly(dialkyl)silanes and 40-60% for poly(monoalkyl)silanes. Ceramic composite discs were prepared by the combined mixture of polyalkylsilanes and SiC powder and were tested by TGA and analyzed by SEM and XRD for the application as binder for ceramic composite precursors.

This study is shown the chemical characteristics by SEM and XRD for the Light-weight Foamed Concrete according to replacement ratio of WCP and the autoclave curing time. From the SEM of the Light-weight Foamed Concrete after hydrothermal raction, regardless of replacement ratio of WCP and the autoclave curing time, forms the crystal hydrates having various shapes such as board and fiber etc is generated. From the XRD, it seems that the tobermorite hydrate is originated from crystalized quartz.
Very often, whether accidentally or intentionally set fire, according as building are elevated, varied or complicated day by day. It is of primary importance that we have a treatment of fire damaged structure. In general, strength and elasticity modulus of heated concrete are reduced. Product background of cement, sand and coarse aggregate differ from country to country, so that thermal behaviour of concrete make a difference in high temperature. To cope with demand, this paper is a study on relation to microstructure and strength reduction. In consequence of experiments, concrete exposed to high temperature are estimating the reduction of mechanical properties in comparison with microstructure characteristics which are abtained from the SEM/EDX, XRD and DSC-TG analysis of heated specimens under various temperature.
In this study, we present the preparation and characterization of oxidized fullerene and fullerene dimer [$C_{120}$]. From the XRD data, other weak peaks with pristine fullerene [$C_{60}$] peaks were observed in the X-ray diffraction patterns for fullerene dimer [$C_{120}$]. SEM micrographs for the fullerene dimer [$C_{120}$] indicated that practically all the surface state was shown the drastic morphology changes and its outer surface is clearly visible and resulted in clogging and frost-like formation. From the MALDI-TOF mass spectra, the differences in the spectra recorded on two kinds of fullerene are due to the oxidation including chemical bonding and bridging between the $C_{60}$ molecules. We also obtained additional information from FT-IR spectra on functional component on the chemically modified surface of oxidized fullerene and fullerene dimer [$C_{120}$].
Synthesis of zeolite 4A was carried out to optimize the nanoparticle synthesis process using statistical experimental design method. The zeolite 4A was synthesized by controlling the concentration of the silicon precursor, sodium metasilicate (SMS), and characterized by XRD, SEM and nitrogen adsorption. In particular, the property of zeolite 4A can be determined by XRD analysis. Using the general factor analysis in the design of experiments, we analyzed main effects and interactions according to the reactor, reaction temperature and reaction time. The optimum reaction condition for the synthesis of zeolite 4A crystallinity was using an autoclave for 3 hours at $110^{\circ}C$. Furthermore, the optimal synthesis conditions of zeolite 4A with various crystallinity using Ludox as a silicon precursor were presented of what using both the surface and contour plot.

In this study, we tried to precipitate calcium carbonate with carbonate ions decomposed from urea by plant extract and calcium ions dissolved in water. The clay particles carry a net negative charge on their surfaces. Such clay mineral was additionally mixed as a medium to improve soil strength and durability with environmentally-friendly way. The $1^{st}$ solution (plant extracts and urea) and the $2^{nd}$ solution (calcium chloride and clay) were mixed together with clean Nakdong River sand. Then, this mixed soil was compacted into a small cylindrical specimen and then air cured for 7 days in laboratory. The molar concentration of urea and calcium chloride was tested for three different conditions, 1, 5, and 7 mol. Three different clay contents (0, 1, and 3% per total weight) were mixed with sand. For each specimen, a series of unconfined compression test, a durability test, SEM, EDX and XRD analyses were carried out to evaluate its cementation and structure. As the molar concentration of the solution and clay content increased, the unconfined compressive strength and durability increased. The results of SEM, EDX and XRD analyses showed that calcite was precipitated around clay mineral. The thermogravimetry analysis indicated that calcium carbonate precipitated about 1~2% per total weight of the sample.

In this paper, we fabricated the micro hotplate which consisted of a thin film heater(Pt/Cr bilayers) sandwiched with the thermal oxide and E-beam evaporated oxide. And we studied the electrical and the structural properties of Pt/Cr bilayers due to annealing temperature. When we compared the temperature measured from type k thermocouples with the temperature acquired from I.R. thermo-vision system according to the variations of emissivity, the emissivity of I-beam evaporated oxide was 0.5. The sheet resistance of Pt/Cr bilayers didn't depend on the Cr layer thickness, and it was considered as the existence of CrO between the Pt and the Cr layer. When the annealing temperature was increased from $500^{\circ}C$ to $700^{\circ}C$, the out-diffusions of Cr were increased(which was confirmed by AES depth profile) and the grain size of Pt(220) phase was enlarged also(analyzed by XRD and SEM photographs). From the results of XRD analysis and AES depth profile, the Pt/Cr bilayers annealed at $500^{\circ}C$ were more stable than any other cases in structural properties.
In this work, pitch/activated carbon/$TiO_2$ composite were prepared by $CCl_4$ solvent method with different mixing ratios. The BET surface area of pitch/activated carbon/$TiO_2$ composite has a significantly increase with increasing activated carbon content in pitch/activated carbon/$TiO_2$ composite. The surface structure and elemental compositions of the composite were studied by SEM and EDX, respectively. The SEM results were presented to the characterization of porous texture on the pitch/activated carbon/$TiO_2$ composite. And EDX data was shown the presence of C, O, S, Ti and other elements. The structural properties of the composite were studied in XRD measurements. The $TiO_2$ crystal phases of the pitch/activated carbon/$TiO_2$ composite had lots of rutile-type structure which transforms from anatase-type with a little of anatase-type structure. The photocatalytic activities of the composite were evaluated using a photo-decomposition method under UV lamp. The pitch/activated carbon/$TiO_2$ composites were observed better photocatalytic activity than that of pristine $TiO_2$.
Asian dust (Hwangsa) interacts with light, atmospheric gas, aerosol, and marine ecosystem, affecting Earth climate. Mineralogical properties are essential to understand the interaction between the dust and environments. In this study, we examined the mineralogical properties of Asian dust collected at Deokjeok Island, Incheon, Korea in February 22, 2015. X-ray diffraction (XRD) analyses showed that phyllosilicate minerals (62 wt%) dominate the Asian dust. Illite-smectite series clay minerals (55%) were common with minor chlorite (5%) and kaolinite (2%). Non-phyllosilicate minerals were quartz (18%), plagioclase (10%), K-feldspar (4%), calcite (4%), and gypsum (1%). Similar results were obtained by mineral quantification using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy dispersive X-ray spectrometry (EDS). Transmission electron microscopy combined with EDS confirmed illite-smectite series clay minerals as the dominant phyllosilicate type. Morphological analyses using SEM showed clay agglomerates, clay-coated quartz, feldspars, and micas. Gypsum grains were common on the particle surface, while calcite nanofibers, previously reported as common on the surface, were rare, indicating the reaction of calcite and acidic atmospheric pollutants to form gypsum. The analytical result of 2015 Asian dust would contribute to the establishment of mineralogical base for the modeling of the interaction between Asian dust and environments.
