  • The Hippocratic database model recently proposed by Agrawal et al. incorporates privacy protection capabilities into relational databases. Since the Hippocratic database is based on the relational database, it needs extensions to be adapted for XML databases. In this paper, we propose the Hippocratic XML database model, an extension of the Hippocratic database model for XML databases and present an efficient access control mechanism under this model. In contrast to relational data, XML data have tree-like hierarchies. Thus, in order to manage these hierarchies of XML data, we extend and formally define such concepts presented in the Hippocratic database model as privacy preferences, privacy policies, privacy authorizations, and usage purposes of data records. Next, we present a new mechanism, which we call the authorization index, that is used in the access control mechanism. This authorization index, which is Implemented using a multi-dimensional index, allows us to efficiently search authorizations implied by the authorization granted on the nearest ancestor using the nearest neighbor search technique. Using synthetic and real data, we have performed extensive experiments comparing query processing time with those of existing access control mechanisms. The results show that the proposed access control mechanism improves the wall clock time by up to 13.6 times over the top-down access control strategy and by up to 20.3 times over the bottom-up access control strategy The major contributions of our paper are 1) extending the Hippocratic database model into the Hippocratic XML database model and 2) proposing an efficient across control mechanism that uses the authorization index and nearest neighbor search technique under this model.

  • In SCA, the core framework must include the domain parser to parse the domain profile and thus reconstructs the platform on the time including the starting of the platform, the initialization of the new radio, and etc. The domain profile is described in XML and it includes the characteristics about the software component or the hardware device in a platform. Elementarily, the core framework has to have within the domain profile parser in order to parse the domain profile. In this paper, in order to apply to the limited environment like the mobile terminal, we propose the method for reducing the size of the domain profile parser and for strengthening the independency of the XML parser vendor to have with the domain profile parser. Therefore, domain profile parser can be solve the problem like the overhead about the DOM tree creation due to the repetitive parsing of the domain profile, the compatibility degradation by the specific XML parser vender, the dependency about the domain profile technique, and etc.

  • With the explosion of bioinformatics data such proteins and genes, biologists need a integrated system to analyze and organize large datasets that interact with heterogeneous types of biological data. In this paper, we propose a integration system based on a mediated data warehouse architecture using a XML model in order to combine protein related data at biology laboratories. A fact constellation model in this system is used at a common model for integration and an integrated schema it translated to a XML schema. In addition, to track source changes and provenance of data in an integrated database employ incremental update and management of sequence version. This paper shows modeling of integration for protein structures, sequences and classification of structures using the proposed system.

  • A robust repositioning method is required for annotations to always maintain proper positions when original documents were modified. Robust anchoring in the XML document provides better anchoring results when it includes features of structured documents as well as annotated texts. This paper proposes robust annotation anchoring method in XML document. To do this, this work presents annotation information as logical structure trees, and creates candidate anchors by analyzing matching relations between the annotation and document trees. To select the appropriate candidate anchor among many candidate anchors, this work presents several anchoring criteria based on the textual and label context of anchor nodes in the logical structure trees. As a result, robust anchoring is realized even after various modifications of contexts in the structured document.

  • The method of effectively merging XML documents becomes necessary, as the use of XML is popular and the collaborative editing is required in the areas such as office documents and scientific documents editing works. As a solution to this problem, in this paper we present a theoretical framework for merging individual editing works by muli-users to a same source document. Different from existing approaches which merge documents themselves when they are merged, we represent editing works with a series of edit operations applied to a source document, which is called a edit script, merge those edit scripts by multi-users, and apply the merged one to the source document so that we can achieve the same effect of merging documents. In order to do this, assuming edit scripts based on insertion and deletion edit operations, we define notions such as static edit scripts, the intervention between edit scripts and the conflict between the ones, then propose the conflict conditions between edit scripts and the method of adjusting edit scripts when merged. This approach is effective in reducing network overhead in distributed environments and also in version management systems because of preserving the semantics of individual editing works.

  • Structural join is one of the most typical techniques for evaluating XML path queries. Recent researches for structural joins focus on techniques of skipping unnecessary elements using the horizontal distribution information of elements that is indexed on a structure like B+ tree. However, those techniques make the structural join complicated and cannot guarantee efficient join processing due to the overhead of an index structure. In this paper, we propose a new structural join technique that exploits the level information of XML elements. Our technique can skip unnecessary elements using level information, which is vertical distribution information of elements. Through the experimental results, we show that our technique can evaluate structural joins efficiently.

  • Extended path expressions are used to denote multiple paths concisely by using '$\ast$' character. They are convenient for expressing OQL queries to retrieve XML data stored in OODBs. In this paper, we propose a multi-path index scheme as a new index scheme to efficiently process queries with extended path expressions. Our proposed index scheme allocates a unique path identifier for every possible single path in an extended path expression and provides functionalities of both a single path indexing and multiple path indexing through the composition of index key and path identifier while using only a index structure. The proposed index scheme provides better performance than single-path index schemes, and is practical since it can be implemented by little modification of leaf records of a B+-tree index.

  • The most commonly adopted approach to find valuable information from tree data is to extract frequently occurring subtree patterns from them. Because mining frequent tree patterns has a wide range of applications such as xml mining, web usage mining, bioinformatics, and network multicast routing, many algorithms have been recently proposed to find the patterns. However, existing tree mining algorithms suffer from several serious pitfalls in finding frequent tree patterns from massive tree datasets. Some of the major problems are due to (1) modeling data as hierarchical tree structure, (2) the computationally high cost of the candidate maintenance, (3) the repetitious input dataset scans, and (4) the high memory dependency. These problems stem from that most of these algorithms are based on the well-known apriori algorithm and have used anti-monotone property for candidate generation and frequency counting in their algorithms. To solve the problems, we base a pattern-growth approach rather than the apriori approach, and choose to extract maximal frequent subtree patterns instead of frequent subtree patterns. The proposed method not only gets rid of the process for infrequent subtrees pruning, but also totally eliminates the problem of generating candidate subtrees. Hence, it significantly improves the whole mining process.

  • As Ubiquitous commerce is coming personalization service is getting interested. And also the recommendation method which offers useful information to customer becomes more important. However, most of them depend on specific method and are restricted to the E-commerce. For applying these recommendation methods into U-commerce, first it is necessary that the extended context modeling and systematic connection of the methods to complement strength and weakness of recommendation methods in each commercial transaction. Therefore, we propose a mod-eling technique of context information related to personal activation in commercial transaction and show incremental preference analysis method, using preference tree which is closely connected to recommendation method in each step. And also, we use an XML indexing technique to effi-ciently extract the recommendation information from a preference tree.
