  • Security is still a great concern to this day, albeit we have come a long way to mitigate its numerous threats. No-SQL databases are rapidly becoming the new database de-facto, as more and more apps are being developed every day. However, No-SQL databases security could be improved. In this paper, we discuss a way to improve the security of XML-based databases with the use of trust labels to be used as an access control model.

  • Nowadays an information exchange on XML such as B2B electronic commerce is spreading. Therefore the systematic and stable management mechanism for storing the exchanged information is needed. For this goal there are many research activities for connection between XML application and database. Accordingly, A unified modeling methodology need to store the XML file on the variety database. In this paper, we propose a unified design methodology for XML applications based on variety databases using UML. To this goal, first we introduce a XML modeling methodology to design W3C XML schema using UML and second we propose data modeling methodology for object-relational database schema, object oriented database an schema and relational database schema to store efficiently XML data in databases.

  • AS Extensible Markup Language(XML) is emerging as the data format of the Internet era, there are increasing needs to efficiently transform between database and XML documents. In this paper, we propose a schema transformation method from relational database to XML database. To transform the schema, we represent input schema as Entity-Relationship diagram. Entity-Relationship model translator scans the input Entity-Relationship diagram using BFS (breadth First Search) and translates the diagram into hierarchical structure model. The XML Schema generator produces XML Scema code using the transformed hierarchical structure model. The proposed method has a merit that having reusability facility of XML Schema property in comparison with existing researches.

  • Method of designing and implementing the XML Gateway is proposed for supporting the data movement between the Legacy databases. XML technologies, Oracle XML Utility, and JDeveloper are used for this purpose. The data in Legacy database are extracted by XSQL pages, parsed, transformed by XSL, and finally saved by XMLHttprequest object of XSQL servlet. With the help of the implemented system, an assigned operator does not have to handle the database with the SQL*Plus tools. In addition, the data movement is easily carried out by using the familiar Web interface offered by system.

  • We propose an XML document storage system, called XDMS (XML Document Management System), by using an object-relational DBMS. XDMS generates object database schema from XML Schema and stores the XML documents in an object-relational database. SAX parser is used for understanding the structure of the XML documents, and XDMS transforms the documents into objects in the database. Experiment shows that object-relational databases provide more efficient storage and query model compared with relational databases.

  • Nowadays the information exchange based on XML such as B2B electronic commerce is spreading. Therefore a systematic and stable management mechanism for storing the exchanged information is needed. For this goal there are many research activities for centering on relational databases the connection between XML application and databases. But when XML data which has hierarchical structure is stored as relational databases which are expressed as relational information, a set of 2-dimensional table, there is a limitation essentially. Accordingly the modeling methodology for storing such structured information in the form of object-relational databases is needed. In order to build good quality application systems, modeling is an important first step. In 1997, the OMG adopted the UML as its standard modeling language. Since industry has warmly embraced UML, its popularity should become more important in the future. So a design methodology based on UML is needed to develop efficient XML applications. In this paper, we propose a unified design methodology for XML applications based on object-relational database using UML. To reach these goals, first we propose a systematic three step methodology to extract UML, second we introduce a XML modeling methodology to design W3C XML schema using UML and third we propose a data modeling methodology for object-relational database schema to store exchanging XML data efficiently.

  • Nowadays the information exchange based on XML such as B2B electronic commerce is spreading. Therefore a systematic and stable management mechanism for storing the exchanged information is needed. For this goal there are many research activities for concerning the connection between XML application and relational databases. But because XML data has hierarchical structure and relational databases can store only flat-structured data, we need to make a conversion rule which changes the hierarchical architecture to a 2-dimensional format. Accordingly the modeling methodology for storing such structured information in relational databases is needed. In order to build good quality application systems, modeling is an important first step. In 1997, the OMG adopted the UML as its standard modeling language. • We propose an extremely light DDXMI approach for semi-automated integration of both structurally and semantically heterogeneous distributed XML documents. In the proposed prototype, a DDXMI(Distributed Documents XML Metadata Interface) is defined and a user interface generator is developed. The prototype takes sources' DTDs as inputs and generates a friendly graphical user interface for the application users. The user can easily describe the semantic mapping between the integrated virtual database DTD and sources' DTDs through assigning index numbers and specifying associated function names so that the DDXMI based on the mappings is automatically generated. Quilt is selected as the XML query language which processes user queries according to the DDXMI. It is assumed that the application users know what they want from the different sources, that is, they have their own integrated database schema in their mind, and know the semantics of the involved XML databases. A small-size global DTD and a mid-size global DTB are generated to verify the rluery generation and retrieval results with 3 XML document databases, that is, Master/ph.D thesis, research reports, and journal databases. The system has been developed with JavaCC and Java Servelet.

  • Many issues about portability and extension of system converting and exchanging information using XML standard data are being studied currently. This paper proposes design using XML processing layer for mediation between client and server to solve the development cost problem for compatibility and extension of client/server environment. This maintains mediation role for programming development between client and server and increases extension of system and portability of hetero geneous environment. This paper implements and designs XML data processing system for EC using XML DB among hetrogeneous databases. We expect cost-down by maintenance of system using this architecture for electronic commerce.

  • In order to access XML data stored in object databases, an efficient index scheme is inevitable. There have been several index schemes that can be used to efficiently retrieve XML data stored In object databases, but they are all the single path indexes that support indexing along a single schema path. Henee, if a query contains an extended path which is denoted by wild character ('*'), a query processor has to examine multiple index objects, resulting in poor performance and inconsistent index management. In this paper, we propose MPI (Multi-Path Index) scheme as a new index scheme that provides the functionality of multiple path indexes more efficiently, while it uses only one index structure. The proposed scheme is easy to manage since it considers the extended path as a logically single schema path. It is also practical since it can be implemented by little modification of the B -tree index structure.
