  • An OFDM system using cross-handed circular Polarization(XCP-OFDM) is newly proposed in his paper. The proposed XCP-OFDM system divides the subchannels into a right-handed circular polarization(RHP channel and a left-handed circular polarization(LHCP) channel that alternate each other. Therefore, the overlaps between subcarriers in XCP-OFDM system can be reduced to a great extend compared to the conventional OFDM system. By this reason, it can improve the orthogonality and reduce the inter-channel interference due to frequency offset. In this paper, it can be seen that the proposed XCP-OFDM system shows robust against frequency offset.

  • This paper describes the design and implementation of a XCP (Xeline Control Protocol) network system. XCP is an information oriented protocol which delivers information with high reliability according to the predefined rule. The XCP network system is implemented with partly hardware and partly software based on the power line communication(PLC) environment. A network management tool which interacts with devices is also developed. In order to verify the feasibility of the proposed architecture, the implemented XCP network system is evaluated using a lighting control system.

  • In this study, three dimensional X-ray dose distribution from dental X-ray generator system was measured by ALOKA PDM-117 dosimeter. The X-ray dose distribution will be change with XCP-DS FIT in oral shot, because the distance between X-ray generator and the dosimeter. The X-ray dose change affects on patient exposure and radiograph image quality. Therefore, it is important to obtain relation between the X-ray dose and the distance. The X-ray dose at the central position was decreased with increasing the distance. Furthermore, the dose at the edge of the X-ray flux was increased with increasing the distance. The increased dose affects on the patient radiation exposure. The present results will provide for good dental radiograph image and reducing radiation over-exposure on patient.

  • The Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing(OFDM) is a special case of multicarrier transmission, where a single data stream is divided into many subcarriers and transferred in a parallel way. It reduces the necessary bandwidth using the orthogonality between the subcarriers. Therefore it requires the transmission channel which has stable characteristic. When the delay spread of the channel exceed the guard interval, then the orthogonality of the subcarriers cannot maintain and as a result the system performance degrade. In this paper, the XCP-OFDM(OFDM using cross-handed Circular Polarization) system is newly proposed. This system divides the channel in order to eliminate the overlapping of subcarrier's spectrum by using cross-handed circular polarization. Therefore, the proposed XCP-OFDM system can improve the performance without increasing the guard interval. Both theoretical analysis and simulation results are described.

  • This paper proposes the OFDM system that uses circularly polarized waves for improving the system performance. The circular polarization has the characteristic that it cannot receive the waves which are reflected by odd times. Using this characteristic, a modified OFDM system that uses the cross-handed circular polarization(XCP-OFDM) is newly proposed. By using the characteristic of circular polarization, it is clearly seen that the system performance of XCP-OFDM can be improved to a great extent. This is due to a reduction of the interferences caused by reflected waves and inter-channel interference. Both theoretical analysis and system simulation results are described.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the numbers and causes of retakes in 300 complete mouth radiographic surveys made by 75 senior dental students. According to radiographic techniques and film holding methods, they were divided into 4 groups: Group Ⅰ: Bisecting-angle technique with patient's fingers. Group Ⅱ: Bisecting-angle technique with Rinn Snap-A-Ray device. Group Ⅲ: Paralleling technique with Rinn XCP instrument (short cone) Group Ⅳ: Paralleling technique with Rinn XCP instrument (long cone) The most frequent cause of retakes, the most frequent tooth area examined, of retakes and average number of retakes per complete mouth survey were evaluated. The obtained results were as follows: Group Ⅰ: Incorrect film placement(47.8%), upper canine region, and 0.89 Group Ⅱ: Incorrect film placement (44.0%), upper molar region, and 1.12. Group Ⅲ: Incorrect film placement (79.2%), upper molar region, and 2.05 Group Ⅳ: Incorrect film placement (67.7%), upper molar region, and 1.69. The average number of retakes per complete mouth survey of paralleling technique (Group Ⅲ+Ⅳ) was higher than that of bisecting-angle technique (Group Ⅰ + Ⅱ) (p<0.01). There was no difference between Group Ⅰ and Group Ⅱ, and between Group Ⅲ and Group Ⅳ in the average number of retakes per complete mouth survey (p>0.05).

  • Purpose: To compare the standard deviation of gray levels on digital subtracted images obtained by different dental subtraction programs. Materials and Methods: Paired periapical films were taken at the lower premolar and molar areas of the phantoms involving human mandible. The bite registration group used Rinn XCP equipment and bite registration material, based on polyvinyl siloxane, for standardization. The no bite registration group used only Rinn XCP equipment. The periapical film images were digitized at 1200 dpi resolution and 256 gray levels by a flat bed scanner with transparency unit. Dental digital subtraction programs used for this study were Subtractor (Biomedisys Co., Korea) and Emago (Oral Diagnostic Systems, The Netherlands). To measure the similarities between the subtracted images, the standard deviations of the gray levels were obtained using a histogram of subtracted images, which were then analyzed statistically. Results: Subtracted images obtained by using the Emago program without manual selection of corresponding points showed the lowest standard deviation of gray levels (p<0.01). And the standard deviation of gray levels was lower in subtracted images in the group of a bite registration than in the group of no use of bite registration (p < 0.01). Conclusion: Digital radiographic subtraction without manual selection of reference points was found to be a convenient and superior method.
