  • It is known that the effects of oil supply conditions on the characteristics of plain journal bearings are significant and especially the dynamic characteristics are affected by cavity region. For various shapes (axial groove, spiral groove, X-shape groove) and positions of oil grooves, the pressure distribution and the static performance of plain journal bearings are obtained with numerical methods. Elrods algorithm which implements JFO oil rupture/reformation boundary condition is used in order to take into account the effect of cavity region. It is shown that in the cases of axial groove or X-shape groove the load capacity and the attitude angle are affected by the groove position but the effect of spiral groove position is less significant.

  • Removal of angular deformation induced during the welding of butt joints in thick steel plates needs expert skill and is costly. To reduce deformation, proper joint designs are studied with a prediction of deformation prior to welding. However, as the thickness of a plate increases, a predictive analysis of the welding process is more difficult, especially if there is an increase in the number of welding passes in the joint. In this study, a numerical model with the finite element method (FEM) was developed to analyze the angular deformation in the multi-pass welding of butt joints of plates made of AH32 steel that had a thickness of up to 100 mm. A series of numerical simulations were then performed based on the developed model to predict the deformations for thick plates. With the results obtained by the analyses, this study suggested optimal X-shape grooves for the butt joints of thick plates to minimize the angular deformation. As the thickness of the plate increased to 100 mm, the ratio of the depth of the front-side groove to that of the back-side groove should be gradually increased to nearly 1:3.

  • This paper presents contact behavior of an Polyperfluoroalkoxyethylene(PTFE) ring seals by a non-linear finite element method using the thermomechanical analysis. PTFE elastomer was assumed as odgen model for numerical analysis in FEM commercial code because elastomer has nonlinear behaviour character. The shape effects are investigated for sealing performance of ring seal in boundary conditions which as gas pressure, groove temperature and various O-ring seal models. Also contact stress and equivalent total strain are investicated. An O-ring seals was modeled four shape which are circle, two sunflower and X. The highest contact stress occurs at sunflower-ring seal with groove deapth of 0.35mm. the equivalent total strain of sunflower-ring seal is lower than that of the others under low gas pressure condition but under gas pressure condition over 4Mpa, that of sunflower-ring seal is higher. The calculated FEM results shows that the Sunflower-ring seal with groove depth of 0.35mm has excellent performance compared with other seal models.

  • The X-ring is a elastomer with X-shaped cross-section used as a mechanical seal or gasket. Such a X-ring was equipped in a groove and compressed between two or more parts, acts as a seal on the interface. This study aims to detect contact stress and deformed shape of a X-shaped ring shell under various compressive contact conditions. A contact stress analysis was carried out by finite element analysis. The effect of compression rates and thickness design variable was analyzed. X-ring kept up the double seal until a compression rate of 20%. The maximum stresses of the X-ring was occurred at the top and bottom corner. The maximum contact stress of X-ring was rapidly increased according with the compression rate. The X-rings with thickness design variable from 1.3 mm to 1.5 mm had comparative low stress levels.

  • On the basis of the Computational Fluid Dynamics technique (CFD) combined with the overlap grid method, this paper establishes a numerical simulation method to study the problem of ice-propeller interaction in viscous flow and carries out a simulation forecast of the hydrodynamic performance of an ice-class propeller and flow characteristics when in the proximity of milling-shape ice (i.e., an ice block with a groove cut by a high-speed revolving propeller). We use a trimmed mesh in the entire calculation domain and use the overlap grid method to transfer information between the domains of propeller rotation calculation and ice-surface computing. The grid is refined in the narrow gap between the ice and propeller to ensure the accuracy of the flow field. Comparison with the results of the experiment reveals that the error of the hydrodynamic performance is within 5%. This confirms the feasibility of the calculation method. In this paper, we calculate the exciting force of the propeller, analyze the time domain of the exciting force, and obtain the curve of the frequency domain using a Fourier transform of the time-domain curve of the exciting force. The existence of milling-shape ice before the propeller can greatly disturb the wake flow field. Unlike in open water, the propeller bearing capacity shows a downward trend in three stages, and fluctuating pressure is more disordered near the ice.

  • Recently, the use of Robot increase little by little for the purpose of developing a welding quality and productivity in the welding part. It is more important to contact the seam for arc welding before moving a welding robot. There are two types of method to contact the seam namely contact and non-contact type largely. In this paper, image processing sensor(a kind of non-contact sensor) is concerned to track the seam by using laser diode and CCD camera. A structured laser diode's light illuminated on the weld groove and the reflected shape is introduced by CCD camera. The image board captures this image and software analyzes this image. The robot is moved and welded exactly as acquired image X-Y data is changed with robot's X-Y value. Also, most of seam tracking are considered by changing the program simply in case of the different weld groove of plane surface.

  • Conservation Treatment Process 1. Inlaying is observed at the back and head of a sword to grasp the inner structure of relics by photographing X-ray. 2. After removing rust of surface, inlaying emerge. 3. After hardening, inlaying emerge to magnetite layer by standing Scapel and Vibrotool throught microscope. Charcterization 1. Most of domestic inlaying become designed to the head of a sword but this inlaying become designed to gold inlaying to the back of a sword. 2. Inlaying is the technique to groove V-shape on the surface of relice and to put gold thread in.

  • Conservation and research efforts are currently underway at the National Museum of Korea on a series of artifacts excavated from Tomb No. 9 at Seogam-ri nearly a century ago by an archaeology team from the institution's colonialera predecessor. Among these objects are a number of bronze and gilt bronze buttons. The present study explores the production techniques used in making such buttons. Both bronze and gilt bronze buttons are hemispherical in shape and are similar in external appearance. However, their shanks differ significantly in size and cross-sectional shape, some with a round cross-section while others are square. The buttons, first sorted into two groups by each type of shank, were further subdivided by size. Analysis of round shanks has found variations in design and location as well as in shank thickness. In addition, the location where round shanks attach to buttons are usually irregular in surface. Square shanks, on the other hand, are more uniform in design and location. The shanks are typically located on the backs of buttons and attach to a groove which ostensibly serves to mark the correct position. X-ray imaging has revealed that round shanks have thick borders made from metal rather than dirt or other material. The buttons themselves appear to been cast using lost-wax technique. The ways in which each shank attaches to its respective button varies based on its cross-sectional shape.
