We report on our Galactic plane searches for magnetars in the archival Chandra X-ray Observatory (CXO) data. We summarize the properties of known magnetars and use them to establish a procedure for magnetar searches. The procedure includes four steps: source finding, spectral characterization, optical counterpart checks, and period searches. We searched 1,282 archival CXO observations, found 32,838 X-ray sources, and selected 25 intriguing candidates using the developed procedure. Although we do not firmly identify a magnetar among them, we significantly reduced the number of targets in future magnetar searches to be done with better X-ray telescopes.
In this study, laboratory hydraulic fracturing tests are carried out to evaluate the effects of the cleavage anisotropy of Pocheon granite. Breakdown pressure is smaller when cracks are generated to the direction of rift plane in constant pressurization rate condition because of higher microcracks density. Besides not only injection rate changes but also the amount of injection pressure for fracture initiation and crack expansion is detected while testing due to internal deformation. Pressurization rate is higher while hydraulic fracture testing with constant injection rate condition in case of the specimen which has rift plane perpendicular to borehole because there are much flow paths to penetrate compared to the specimen which has hardway plane perpendicular to borehole. Observation by X-ray CT scanning shows that almost all of cracks due to hydraulic fracturing are generated to the direction of plane which has higher microcrack density that is rift plane or grain plane.
To solve structural optimization problems, it is necessary to integrate a structural analysis package and an optimization package. There have been many packages that can be employed to analyze reinforced concrete plane frames. However, because most structural analysis packages suffer from closeness of systems, it is very difficult to integrate them with optimization packages. To overcome the difficulty, we proposed a possible alternative, DAMDO, which integrates Design, Analysis, Modeling, Definition, and Optimization phases into an integration environment as follows. (1) Design: first generate many possible structural design alternatives. Each design alternative consists of many design variables X. (2) Analysis: employ the structural analysis software to analyze all structural design alternatives to obtain their internal forces and displacements. They are the response variables Y. (3) Modeling: employ artificial neural networks to build the models Y=f(X) to obtain the relationship functions between the design variables X and the response variables Y. (4) Definition: employ the design variables X and the response variables Y to define the objective function and constraint functions. (5) Optimization: employ the optimization software to solve the optimization problem consisting of the objective function and the constraint functions to produce the optimum design variables. The RC frame optimization problem was examined to evaluate the DAMDO approach, and the empirical results showed that it can be solved by the approach.

Three-dimensional vortical structures in the wake behind a road vehicle has been visualized with the help of two-dimensional PIV measurement data. A three-dimensional velocity field has been reconstructed from several sectional measurement data in the x-y, y-z and z-x planes. Isovorticity surface observed by stacking only the sectional data in each plane, does not show the vortical structures within the recirculation region but represents only the strong shear flows. Thus, in the present study, the velocity component normal to the x-y plane is obtained by interpolating those velocities in the z-x plane. Then, a $\lambda_{2}$-definition which captures the local pressure minimum or vortex core, is applied to visualize the vortices in the recirculation region. The final results represent a successful configuration for the three-dimensional vortices.
Let X be a hyperbolic region in the complex plane C such that the hyperbolic metrix ${\lambda}_X(w){\mid}dw{\mid}$ exists. Let $R(X)=sup\{{\delta}_X(w):w{\in}X\}$ where ${\delta}_X(w)$ is the euclidean distance from w to ${\partial}X$. Here ${\partial}X$ is the boundary of X. A hyperbolic region X is called a Bloch region if R(X) < ${\infty}$. In this paper, we obtain lower bounds for the hyperbolic metric on Bloch regions in terms of the distance to the boundary.

ZnO has received considerable attention due to its potential applicability to optoelectronic devices such as ultraviolet-light emitting diodes (UVLEDs) and laser diodes (LDs). As well known, however, polar ZnO with the growth direction along the c-axis has spontaneous and piezoelectric polarizations that will result in decreased quantum efficiency. Recently, nonpolar ZnO has been studied to avoid such a polarization effect. In order to realize applications of nonpoar ZnO-based films to LEDs, growth of high quality alloys for quantum well structures is one of the important tasks that should be solved. $Mg_xZn_{1-x}O$ and $Cd_xZn_{1-x}O$ is ones of most promising alloys for this application because the alloys of ZnO with MgO and CdO provide a wide range of band-gap engineering spanning from 2.4 to 7.8 eV. In this study, we investigated on $Mg_xZn_{1-x}O$ films grown with various Mg/Zn flux ratios The films were grown on R-plane sapphire substrates by plasma-assisted molecular beam epitaxy (PAMBE). we investigated on $Mg_xZn_{1-x}O$ films grown with various Mg/Zn flux ratios. The films were grown on R-plane sapphire substrates by plasma-assisted molecular beam epitaxy (PAMBE). With the relatively low Mg/Zn flux ratios, a typical striated anisotropic surface morphology which was generally observed from the nonpolar (11-20) ZnO film on r-plane sapphire substrates. By increasing the Mg/Zn flux ratio, however, additional islands were appeared on the surface and finally the surface morphology was entirely changed, which was generally observed for the (0001) polar ZnO films by losing the striated morphology. Investigations by X-ray $\Theta-2{\Theta}$ diffraction revealed that (0002) and (10-11) ZnO planes are appeared in $Mg_xZn_{1-x}O$ films by increasing the Mg/Zn flux ratio. Further detailed investigation by transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and photoluminescence (PL) will be discussed.
Let Q(n,1) be the set of even unimodular positive definite integral quadratic forms in n-variables. Then n is divisible by 8. For A[X] in Q(n,1), the theta series $\theta$(sub)A(z) = ∑(sub)X∈Z(sup)n e(sup)$\pi$izA[X] (Z∈h (※Equations, See Full-text) the complex upper half plane) is a modular form of weight n/2 for the congruence group Γ$_1$(8) = {$\delta$∈SL$_2$(Z)│$\delta$≡()mod 8} (※Equation, See Full-text). If n$\geq$24 and A[X], B{X} are tow quadratic forms in Q(n,1), the quotient $\theta$(sub)A(z)/$\theta$(sub)B(z) is a modular function for Γ$_1$(8). Since we identify the field of modular functions for Γ$_1$(8) with the function field K(X$_1$(8)) of the modular curve X$_1$(8) = Γ$_1$(8)\h(sup)* (h(sup)* the extended plane of h) with genus 0, we can express it as a rational function of j(sub) 1,8 over C which is a field generator of K(X$_1$(8)) and defined by j(sub)1,8(z) = $\theta$$_3$(2z)/$\theta$$_3$(4z). Here, $\theta$$_3$ is the classical Jacobi theta series.
In this study, a new algorithm for canceling MRI artifacts through the translational motion of image plane is presented. Bloating is often makes problems in a clinical diagnosis. Assuming that the head moves up and down due to breathing, rigid translational motions in only y(phase encoding axis) direction is treated. First, we notice that the x directional motion corresponds to a shift of the x directional spectrum of the MRI signal, and the non zero area of the spectrum just corresponds to x axis projected area of the density function. So the motion is estimated by tracing the edges of the spectrum, and the x directional motion is canceled by shifting the spectrum in inverse direction. Next, the y directional motion is canceled using a new constraint, with which the motion component and the true image component can be separated. Finally, the effectiveness of this algorithm is shown by using a phantom with simulated motions.
Melt-textured growth of the YBa2Cu3O7-x phase from a supercooled melt created locally aligned, barshaped grains of the orthorhombic 1-2-3 phase. Based on all the observed phenomena, the gross mechanism of the melt-textrued growth of YBa2Cu3O7-x on the (100) plane of MgO was delineated by three basic patterns of reactions. These are : (ⅰ) formation of the aligned 1-2-3 phase and the Y-rich 2-1-1 phase at the bulk region away from the (100) plane of MgO ; (ⅱ) formation of the Cu-richprecipitates at the interfacial region by the selective interface-induced precipitation of the liquid phase ; (ⅲ) condensation reaction of the entrapped Cu-rich vapor with Mg atoms during the initial stage of rapid cooling from 130$0^{\circ}C$ to 98$0^{\circ}C$.

In this work, a new algorithm for canceling MRI artifact due to translational motion in image plane is described. In the previous approach, the motions in the x direction and the y direction are estimated simultaneously. By analyzing their features, each x and y directional motion is canceled by different algorithms in two steps. First, it is noticed that the x directional motion corresponds to a shift of the x directional spectrum of the MRI signal. Next, the y directional motion is canceled by using a new constraint condition. This algorithm is shown to be effective by using a phantom image with simulated motion.
