  • In this study, a susceptibility weighted image (SWI) showed a wrapped phase and a non-uniformity of the rapid susceptibility difference. Consequently, the bandwidth limits at low frequency were improved by applying HPF. From November 2013 to March 2014, a three-dimensional SWI was obtained from patients and compared with the existing images and HPF phase images. The maximum and minimum signal intensity differences and non-uniformity were analyzed. As a result, a high pass filter before and after applying the maximum and minimum of the signal intensity difference was decreased by 274.16% (498.98), and the non-uniformity was decreased by 439.55% (19.83). After applying the HPF, a comparison with the existing phase images revealed the HPF phase images to have high signal and image uniformity of the SWI image. A high pass filter method can effectively remove the non-uniformity and improve the overall image quality.

  • New experiments focusing on the evolution characteristics of nonlinear wave trains were conducted in a large wave flume. A series of wave trains with added sidebands, varying initial steepness, perturbed amplitudes and frequencies, were physically generated in a long wave flume. The experimental results show that the increasing wave steepness, increases the speed of sidebands growth. To study the frequency and phase modulation, the Morlet wavelet transform is adopted to extract the instantaneous frequency of wave trains and the phase functions of each wave component. From the instantaneous frequency, there are local frequency downshifts, even an effective frequency downshift was not observed. The frequency modulation increases with an increase in amplitude modulation, and abrupt changes of instantaneous frequencies occur at the peak modulation. The wrapped phase functions show that in the early stage of the modulation, the phase of the upper sideband first diverges from that of the carrier waves. However, at the later stage, the discrepancy phase from the carrier wave transformed to the lower sideband. The phase deviations appear in the front of the envelope's peaks. Furthermore, the evolution of the instantaneous frequency exhibits an approximate recurrence-type for the experiment with large imposed sidebands, even when the corresponding recurrence is not observed in the Fourier spectrum.

  • We report some recent results in the rewritable Blu-ray Disc with enhanced overwrite cyclability by using the growth dominant eutectic based Ge(Sb70Te30)+Sb recording layer, GeN interface layer and write strategy optimization. We have developed phase-change optical media with appropriate write strategy for 36(i.e., 1X)-72Mbps(i.e., 2X) dual speed Blu-ray Disc system and fur the future high speed optical data storage. For recording layer, eutectic-based Ge(Sb70Te30)+Sb material was used and Sb/Te ratio and Ge content were optimized to obtain proper erasability and archival stability of recorded amorphous marks. The recording layer is wrapped up in GeN interface layers to obtain overwrite cyclability and higher crystallization speed. In addition, we designed appropriate write strategy so called Time-Shifted Multipulse (TSMP) write strategy where starting position of multipulse parts are shined from reference clock. With this write strategy, the jitter characteristics of the disc was improved and we found that leading edge jitter was improved much more than trailing edge jitter in 1X-2X speed recording. Finally, we investigated the higher speed feasibility of 144Mbps(i.e., 4X) by adopting some elemental doping to the eutectic based Ag-In-Sb-Te recording layer and structural optimization of constitution layers in Blu-ray Disc. In the paper, we report the effect of Sn addition for the feasibility of higher speed recording. The addition of Sn shows increases of the crystallization speed of phase change recording layer.

  • Amorphous silicon films of large area have been crystallized by a line shape excimer laser beam of one dimensional scanning with a gaussian profile in the scanning direction. In order to characterize the crystalline phase transition of thickness variables in excimer laser annealing(ELA), angle wrapping method was used. And also to characterize the residual stresses of crystalline phase transition in the case of angle wrapped-crystalline silicon on corning 7059 glass, polarized raman spectroscopies were measured at various laser energy density and substrate temperature. The residual stress varies from $9.0{\times}10^9$ to $9.9{\times}10^9$, and from $9.9{\times}10^9$ to $1.2{\times}10^10$dyne/${cm}^2$ of the substrate temperature at room temperature and varies from $8.1{\times}10^9$ to $9.0{\times}10^9$, and from $9.0{\times}10^9$ to $9.9{\times}10^9$dyne/${cm}^2$ of the substrate temperature at $400^{\circ}C$ as a function of direction from surface to substrate. According to the direction from the surface in liquid phase to the interface and from the interface to near the substrate in solid phase of recrystallized Si thin film, respectively. Thus, the stress is increased from(Liquid phase to solid phase) with phase transition.

  • The catalytic converters for automobile exhaust systems are manufactured by inserting a mat-wrapped substrate into a stainless steel can. A residual pressure that is too high will initiate a fracture in the substrate. In contrast, a residual pressure that is too low will fail to hold the substrate in the acceleration or deceleration phase. Both the process capability and mat pressure on the substrate are predicted while considering the effect of the statistical variation in the dimensions of the parts. The validity of the solutions is then confirmed. A program using EXCEL combines a finite element analysis and process capability analysis in one program.

  • The purpose of this study is to understand how the silhouette changed throughout 1970s and assess how US women express their identities through their dress, which may explain societies' attitudes through the way women dresses. US Vogue fashion magazines were used to explore all the information on fashion and style trends, social trends, beauty, and travel. A content analysis was performed on the issues of the March and September for the years 1970 to 1979. The findings for this study about the 1970s were all about perpetual change, constantly moving forward with innovation. The color ranged from bright, cheery and bold to deep and passionate to subtle neutrals. There were a few constant colors through the decade like white, black and navy. Occasionally the trend would completely change from one season to the next within the same year. They would be full and oversized and then be slim and body conscious. The one trend that stayed true for the entire decade was wrapping. Skirts, pants, dresses, tops, shoes and jewelry; everything wrapped in one-way or another. Clothes steadily became more revealing as the years progressed. Fabrics over all were soft and knitted. Casual and comfortable was the phase heard most often. In the 1970s there was constant change in prints. They were bold and large or subtle and small, ethnic or floral. Hair was mostly smooth and sleek however towards the style moved to a fuller look.

  • An experimental study has been performed to identify the evaporation characteristics of HCFC-22 for transport refrigeration system. Heat transfer coefficients were measured in a horizontal, smooth evaporating tube with an inner diameter of 10.7mm and a length of 2.8m. The refrigerant was heated electrically by surface-wrapped heaters and uniform power is applied along the tube. The entire tube was divided into 7 sections. Surface temperatures of tube and refrigerant temperature in each test section were measured. Pressure drops in each section and the inlet pressure were also measured. The mass flowrate of the refrigerant was controlled and measured. A single tube evaporation test was conducted for different ranges of mass flux of refrigerant, heat flux of evaporator and condensing temperature of transport refrigeration system. The evaporation heat transfer coefficients of HCFC-22 were compared with predictions from the well known Chen's correlations. Averaged heat transfer coefficients in this experiment range from $2kW/m^2/^{\circ}C$ to $3kW/m^2/^{\circ}C$. Most of the experimental results differ from the predicted ones by less than ${\pm}30%$.

  • The object of this study was to obtain data on air-distributions in two-phase up flow in vertical rod-bundle test-section. The test-section in this study was a hexagonal shaped 61-rod bundle where each rod was wrapped with helical spacers. The variables were flow rates of air and water and air inlet positions. Experimental data were obtained at the outlet of the test-section. The experiments were performed in two parts. Firstly, data were taken at increasing flow rates of air keeping water flow rates constant, and secondly, at simultaneous increase of air and water flow rates. At each flow condition, air supply position could be changed to 4 different positions. Data obtained by electrical void-needle technique were analyed and are presented here in graphical forms for comparison. The results of this study demonstrate qualitatively that air-distribution tends to be more uniform as water flow rates are increased. The air supply positions have noticeable effects on the pattern of air-distribution.

  • We carried out studies on InSAR techniques for time-series deformation monitoring using multi-temporal SAR. The PSInSAR method using permanent scatterer is much more complicate than the SBAS because it includes many non-linear equation due to the input of wrapped phase. It is conformed the PS algorithm is very sensitive to even PSC selection. On the other hand, the SBAS method using interferogram of small baseline subset is simple but sensitive to the accuracy of unwrapped phase. The SBAS is better method for expecting not significant unwrapping error while PSInSAR is more proper method for expecting local deformation within very limited area. We used 51 ERS-1/2 SAR data during 1992-2000 over Las Vegas, USA for the comparison between PSInSAR and SBAS. Both PSInSAR and SBAS show similar ground deformation value although local deformation seems to be detected in the PSInSAR method only.

  • Purpose : To investigate the feasibility and accuracy of Proton Resonance Frequency (PRF) shift based magnetic resonance (MR) temperature mapping utilizing the self-developed center array-sequencing phase unwrapping (PU) method for non-invasive temperature monitoring. Materials and Methods : The computer simulation was done on the PU algorithm for performance evaluation before further application to MR thermometry. The MR experiments were conducted in two approaches namely PU experiment, and temperature mapping experiment based on the PU technique with all the image postprocessing implemented in MATLAB. A 1.5T MR scanner employing a knee coil with $T2^*$ GRE (Gradient Recalled Echo) pulse sequence were used throughout the experiments. Various subjects such as water phantom, orange, and agarose gel phantom were used for the assessment of the self-developed PU algorithm. The MR temperature mapping experiment was initially attempted on the agarose gel phantom only with the application of a custom-made thermoregulating water pump as the heating source. Heat was generated to the phantom via hot water circulation whilst temperature variation was observed with T-type thermocouple. The PU program was implemented on the reconstructed wrapped phase images prior to map the temperature distribution of subjects. As the temperature change is directly proportional to the phase difference map, the absolute temperature could be estimated from the summation of the computed temperature difference with the measured ambient temperature of subjects. Results : The PU technique successfully recovered and removed the phase wrapping artifacts on MR phase images with various subjects by producing a smooth and continuous phase map thus producing a more reliable temperature map. Conclusion : This work presented a rapid, and robust self-developed center array-sequencing PU algorithm feasible for the application of MR temperature mapping according to the PRF phase shift property.
