  • This paper considers a networked control system (NCS) that consists of an inverted cart pendulum, a digital controller, and a controller area network (CAN) in which the actuator and sensors of the pendulum are connected to form a closed-loop system. The worst-case message response time (WCMRT) in the CAN is analyzed and the analysis results are applied to the target control system. For the case where the control system cannot satisfy the WCMRT condition and therefore time delays are inevitable, the Luck and Ray method is used to compensate the network-induced time delays. Simulations are carried out to show the feasibility of the proposed scheme.

  • In the practical communication environment, the accurate channel state information (CSI) is difficult to obtain, which will cause the mismatch of resource and degrade the system performance. In this paper, to account for the channel uncertainties, a robust power allocation scheme for a downlink Non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) heterogeneous network (HetNet) is designed to maximize energy efficiency (EE), which can ensure the quality of service (QoS) of users. We conduct the robust optimization model based on worse-case method, in which the channel gains belong to certain ellipsoid sets. To solve the non-convex non-liner optimization, we transform the optimization problem via Dinkelbach method and sequential convex programming, and the power allocation of small cell users (SCUs) is achieved by Lagrange dual approach. Finally, we analysis the convergence performance of proposed scheme. The simulation results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm can improve total EE of SCUs, and has a fast convergence performance.

  • This paper proposes a novel method to perform a quantitative analysis of message complexity and applies this method in comparing the message complexity among the mobile ad hoc network (MANET) address autoconfiguration protocols (AAPs). To obtain the upper bound of the message complexity of the protocols, the O-notation of a MANET group of N nodes has been applied. The message complexity of the single node joining case in Strong DAD, Weak DAD with proactive routing protocols (WDP), Weak DAD with on-demand routing protocols (WDO), and MANETconf has been derived as n(mO(N)+O(t)), n(O(N)+O(t)), n(O(N)+2O(t)), and nO((t+1)N)+O(N)+O(2) respectively. In order to verify the bounds, analytical simulations that quantify the message complexity of the address autoconfiguration process based on the different coflict probabilities are conducted.

  • This paper presents the bus controller analysis of a power control unit of GEO satellite with 3kW power output. The sensing error of bus voltage produce control signal of the shunt switch assembly and the battery power converter, and the tolerance of error signal generated decide the stability of proposed system. The worst case analysis considered for the initial tolerance, temperature effect, tolerance of end of life is peformed to verify a designed bus controller. And also, the stability of system proposed according to moving of zero and pole values by some component failures is analyzed.

  • Usual LEO satellite for earth observation use a blowdown hydrazine monopropellant propulsion system for attitude hold and orbit maintenance. For precision control, thruster valve has very short closing time, but this can cause water hammering and pressure surge. Since water hammering and pressure surge can cause damage of propulsion system and ununiform thrust, Thruster valve closing is one of the special concern during satellite propulsion system design. In this paper, an analysis for propellant feed system is conducted using the method of characteristics. The results represent water hammer effect is negligible even at the worst case and pressure surge can be decreased effectively with a trim orifice.

  • A simple preliminary analysis is often useful to check a validity of design alternatives before the detailed analysis phase in the viewpoint of efficiency. This paper describes a preliminary analysis procedure for the selection among basket design candidates for the spent fuel shipping cask of Korean standard nuclear power plant. As the cask should maintain the structural integrity in hypothetical accident condition, the case of 9 m drop is significantly considered as the worst scenario among the accident conditions in structural design viewpoint in this paper. As basket design options, totally four different types are considered and analyzed in the point of structural integrity at drop impact and weldability for fabrication. As a result, an insertion round plate type with densely spaced supports turns out to be the best in both of the viewpoints, though the weld plate type shows a bit more design margin.

  • An error probability analysis is performed far a hybrid DS/SFH spread-spectrum system using minimum shift keying(MSK) modulation. The channel is assumed to be a Rayleigh fading channel with partial-band noise interference. Expressions are derived for the bit error rate(BER) in the context of Rician and Rayleigh fading channels, as a function of the average signal-to-noise ratio(SNR) $E_b/N_0$, the average signal-to- interference ratio(SJR) $E_b/N_J$, and channel parameters. As a result, in the fading channel with large Rician factor, K, which denotes the ratio of power of the direct and the diffused components, the partial-band interference is the worst case. On the other hand, in Rayleigh fading channel(K=0), the full-band interference($\rho$=1) brings the system to the worst case. Performance comparisons among various channels show that the factor K has much large effect on overall performance. For example, in conditions of $\rho$=0.1 and BER=$10^-2$, the system in Rician channel with K=10 requires more 1.9 dB SNR than that in AWGN channel, whereas it is less 5 dB SNR than that in the Rayleigh channel with K=0.

  • The FHSS(Frequency Hopping Spread Spectrum), in which a transmitter changes its carrier frequency according to a certain hopping pattern, is widely used in the military communication system, since it is highly resistant to deliberate Jamming. However, the difference of BER performance of satellite communication system which using the different modulation scheme and Jamming model was not studied. Thus, in this paper, we consider PBNJ(Partial-Band Noise Jamming) and WPBJ(Worst case Partial-Band noise Jamming) as Jamming models, and evaluate BER(Bit Error Rate) performances of NC-MFSK(Non-Coherent M-ary Frequency-Shift Keying), SDPSK(Symmetric Differential Phase-Shift Keying), and GMSK(Gaussian filtered Minimum-Shift Keying) modulation schemes. Based on the results, we suggest the best transmission method for each condition.

  • This paper presents a Cluster Oriented Multistage Interconnection Network called COMR. COMR can be constructed suitable for the parallel application with localized communication by providing the shortcut path inside the processor-memory cluster which has frequent data communication. We evaluate the performance of COMR with respect to probability of acceptance, bandwidth, cost-effectiveness and average distance under varying degrees of localized communication. According to the result of analysis for performance evaluation, COMR shows higher performance than the regular MINs of the same network size in the highly localized communication. In the worst case, the diameter of an N$\times$N COMR is only n+1 which has only one stage more as compared the MIN with the same network size. Therefore COMR can be used as an attractive interconnection network for parallel applications with not only the localized communication distribution but also the uniform distribution in shared-memory multiprocessor system.

  • This paper addresses the effect of group delay in satellite communication system. Phase of signal is distorted by the non-constant group delay. Group delay can be modeled as linear, parabolic and cubic type according to the polynomial characteristic. We investigate BER performance of satellite communication system with each 3 kinds of group delay. As signal bandwidth becomes wider, group delay makes more influence on the signal. BNR performance of satellite communication system is found when data rates are 1Mbps, 4Mbps and 8Mbps. Convolution coding with the code rate of 1/2 or 7/8 is used. At BER =10$\^$-5/, system with group delay needs more SNR of minimum 0.3㏈ to maximum 4.4㏈ than system without group delay. The worst case of BER performance happens in the linear group delay, 7/8 punctured convolution coding and 8 Mbps. The required SNR is increased by 4.4㏈ at this worst case.
