  • This study was conducted to examine the inhabitation of wild birds at the World Cup Park and to offer the Park ecological management data. Land use md actual vegetation were examined to analyze the inhabitation of wild birds. Characteristics of bird communities were analyzed by dominance, density, diversity index and guild concept. You compare inhabitation before and after the Park was built. We classified the land use and actual vegetation into twenty-six types. Robinia pseudoacacia dominated the study area. Pyeonghwa Park and Nanji-cheon Park were simple-layer structures composed of alien woody species. The observed birds after the World Cup Park included 33 families 77 species, and 9,751 individuals. Among Wild Life types, the shrub and bush type was dominant. There were 26 species of resident birds, 20 species of summer visitors, 18 species of winter visitors, and 12 species of passage migrants. The following numbers of species and individuals were observed: in Hanul park, 38 species, 3,151 individuals; in Noul park, 45 species, 2,061 individuals; in Nanji-cheon park, 42 species, 2,742 individuals; in Pyeonghwa park, 29 species, 875 individuals; and in Maebongsan(Mt.) area, 35 species, 922 individuals. Species diversities for each area were as follows: Noul park, 2.613; Hanul park, 2,301; Nanji-cheon, 2.228; and Pyeonghwa park, 2,019; and each season: summer, 2.652; spring, 2.650: winter, 2.561; and autumn 2.176. The diversity of species increased from 1.135 in 1994 to 2.324 in 2001. We recommended that the park be differented into different ecological areas in order to encourage the appearance of wild birds at the World Cup Park. The management area was divided into three districts(conservation area, preservation and restoration area, use area). The conservation area was established to the west of a waste landfill and in the downstream area of NanJi-cheon, the preservation and restoration area was established in the midstream area of Nanji-cheon, and the use area was established in the buffer zone of Pyeonghwa Park and the Nanji pond greenspace.

  • Suction transfer system with air suctioning is widely used and continuously developed in production automation. Air suctioning has some drawbacks in use. To generate vacuum in the suction cup with air suctioning, complex of mechanical component like as air compressor, air tube, air value is need, and it needs continuous air supply. And if the failure of the suction in a cup in the multi-suction cup system which is generally used occurs then the suctions of all of the cup will be fail. To overcome these drawbacks, new suction mechanism which uses permanent magnet for the movement of the suction cup is proposed. The proposed mechanism activates each suction cup separately, so the air leakage of a cup is not critical. The proposed suction system wasdesigned and fabricated in real world. With some experiments, the usability and performance of the suction mechanism was proved. The strong points of the proposed suction mechanism are simple structure, high energy efficiency, and discrete energy supply.

  • This study is concerned with the selection of the main stadium for the World Cup football game to be held in Korea in 2002. Alternatives are (1) new construction of the main stadium at Sangam; (2) and remodeling Jamsil stadium constructed for Olympic in 1988; remodeling Munhak stadium in Inchon. For comparison purpose, we consider four decision attributes (environmental, economy. political and technical factors) under which several detailed sub-attributes are defined. Various multi-criteria decision-making tools such as AHP and TOPSIS are applied to find the best location. Our study results indicate that the best selection is remodeling Jamsil stadium. This appears due to heavy emphasis on economy factor in our analysis.

  • The purpose of this study was to identify the pattern and perception of food consumption, mass restaurant use, drinking style, and food purchasing factors by cohort groups i. e., World Cup(W) generation, baby boom, and silent generation. Data were collected from 412 respondents including three generations by questionnaire method in April through May 2002. Analysis of variance and chi-square results indicate that there were significant differences among three generation groups for the pattern and perception of food consumption, the use of mass restaurant, preferred drinking style, and influencing factors for food purchasing. W generation are more likely to be influenced by sensibility factor than baby boom and silent generation. Considering food preference pattern, baby boom as well as silent generation prefer green vegetables than meats, and they must have Kimche when having meals. Similarities and differences in perceptional pattern types are discussed, and future implications for food and nutrition specialists and food marketers are provided.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the effect of intervention variables which may affect the air travel demand for Jeju domestic flights and to anticipate the air travel demand for Jeju domestic flights. The air travel demand forecasts for Jeju domestic flights are conducted through ARIMA-Intervention Model selecting five intervention variables such as 2002 World Cup games, SARS, novel swine-origin influenza A, Yeonpyeongdo bombardment and Japan big earthquake. The result revealed that the risk factor such as the threat of war that is a negative intervention incident and occurred in Korea has the negative impact on the air travel demand due to the response of risk aversion by users. However, when local natural disasters (earthquakes, etc) occurring in neighboring courtiers and global outbreak of an epidemic gave the negligible impact to Korea, negative intervention incident would have a positive impact on air travel demand as a response to find alternative due to rational expectation of air travel customers. Also we realize that a mega-event such as the 2002 Korea-Japan World Cup games reduced the air travel demand in a short-term period unlike the perception in which it will increase the air travel demand and travel demands in the corresponding area.

  • This study examines the characteristics of the herbaceous vegetation structure of Haneul Park District in World Cup Park, which had previously been used as a landfill for 15 years. The survey was carried out through actual vegetation and vegetation structures from 2003 to 2006, biannually. Firstly, as a result of analysis of actual vegetation, the autumn season changed more quickly over the 2 year span than did the spring season in terms of actual vegetation area. Annual plants increased for the initial $3{\sim}4$ years and then perennial plants increased. Secondly, the results of analysis in vegetation structure are as follows: 1. The number of planted species gradually decreased. 2. Miscanthus sinensis var. purpurascens of the control region was maintained but Imperata cylindrica var. koenigii of the non-control region was invaded by Miscanthus sacchariflorus, Glycine soja and Phragmites communis etc. 3. Planted species in the control region were maintained in superior state, but the non-control region was changed by natural occurrence plants until 2006, the fourth year. 4. Physostegia virginiana and Aster koraiensis which were planted in the non-control region were maintained but most of planted species weakened and changed by natural occurrence plants including Erigeron annuus, Artemisia princeps, Setaria faberii and Phragmites communis etc. Based on the results, we suggested the management method of herbaceous vegetation in the Haneul Park District.

  • The usual definition of and urban resort was a place vastly different from places of daily life such as a theme park or other tourist destination. At the same time, revival of the combination of usual and unusual spaces, in a way like the mixed "Hare"(Special occasion of public event) and "Ke"(Daily life) spaces of communities of old Japan, is part of the idea of urban resorts. And they are places, which start by making a comfortable urban environment for citizens, providing a daily life full of culture and promoting a city′s identity to visitors. if we think about the kinds of structural elements of urban resorts, the usual elements include community, local culture and industry, while the unusual elements include symbols, festivities and interaction. Kobe Wing Stadium is a venue for the 2002 FIFA World Cup hosted by Korea and Japan. The city will build the stadium, but after construction management will be given over to private enterprise, hoping to utilize that sector′s business know how. A competition was held to determine the private executor who would be entrusted with the planning, design, construction and management of the project, considering the conditions of the area, the stadium′s relationship to it and local revitalization. The competition was won by a private enterprise (Kobe Steel Obayashi Group). The them of "Creation of a Sports Community Park" grapples with the large issue of the facility′s relationship with the community. American geographer Yi-fu Tuan coined the word "topophilia" to indicate love of a place. No other word could better describe the desired urban resort nature of the stadium. From this historical perspective it seems that stadiums have great potential as urban resorts. The factor that will determine their success is the attitude of citizens toward them, in short whether they develop topophilia for them or not. We examined the urban resort nature of Kobe Wing Stadium. Regarding daily life, we saw the attempts to revive the local community, the possibility of deepening the local culture and the weakened state of local industry. As a place that is for more than daily life, we saw the certainty of the stadium′s symbolism, its potential as a place for festivities and the test it will face as a space for interaction. Even though several issues are left for future resolution, evaluating Kobe Wing Stadium through these elements of an urban resort, it is clearly founded in the daily life of the community while providing a venue for "Hare"occasions. Fulfilling the roles of an urban resort, it provides many opportunities for local residents to enjoy their and gives visitors a reason to come repeatedly.

  • In this study, the wind tunnel test for Kwangju World Cup Stadium with long span roof was carried out and its results were considered in the two roofs: one is the case of one roof, and the other is the case of two roofs which are identical. In this experiment, a 1/400-scale model was used. As a result of measuring wind pressure in the case of one roof and then two, when two roofs are set up, wind load for structural frame decreases by 35%, compared to that of one roof. These results show that the current criteria for wind loadings, which specify that wind pressure on the roof depends only on the altitude, have limitations for adoption, and a wind tunnel test is essential to design.
