  • Zinc Oxide(ZnO) thin films on Si (100) substrate were deposited by RF magnetron sputter with changing sputtering conditions such as argon/oxygen gas ratios, RF power, and substrate temperature, chamber pressure and target-substrate distance. To analyze a crystallographic properties of the films, $\theta/2\theta$ mode X-ray diffraction, SEM, and AFM analyses. C-axis preferred orientation, resistivity, and surface roughness highly depended on $Ar/O_2$ gas ratios. The resistivity of ZnO thin films rapidly increased with increasing oxygen ratio and the resistivity value of $9{\times}10^7{\Omega}cm$ was obtained at a working pressure of 10 mTorr with $Ar/O_2$=50/50. The surface roughness was also improved with increasing oxygen ratio and the ZnO films deposited with $Ar/O_2$=50/50 showed the excellent roughness value of $28.7{\AA}$.

  • In high power application, PFC(Power Factor Correction) pre-regulators are generally required. PFC pre-regulators could achieve unity power factor, reduce line input current harmonics and utilize full line power. Interleaving PFC converters could reduce input ripple current, output capacitor ripple current and inductor size. With this closed loop interleaving method, both two phase converters are working at the boundary between continuous and discontinuous mode and accurate 180 degree phase shift is achieved. Implementation of this strategy could be easily integrated to the control chip. Finally, experimental results of a two-phase interleaved boost PFC are presented to verify the discussed features.

  • Powerline communication is the data signal which is modulated by carrier frequency through the installed powerline at in-home or office is transmitted and received signals are separated into data signal with using band-pass filter which cent-frequency is carrier frequency. The home gateway, an equipment which works as an gateway for ubiquitous home network, relays all functions of a home network. The home gateway must always be connected in order to provide seamless services. However it gives unfavorable power consumption. Therefore the needs for working in maximum power saving mode while there is no data traffic and for invoking to the normal function when it is necessary. So, in this paper we survey the development of low power PLC modem monitoring of power consumption and breaking abnormal power in the home Network.

  • In this paper, we accomplish uncertainty evaluation and performance test of the volumetric interferometer using two spherical wavefronts emitted from the ends of two single mode fibers. We verify that the volumetric interferometer has the volume uncertainty of 690nm through the error analysis and it has the resolution of 0.1 0.1$\mu\textrm{m}$ for x axis which is the same order of repeatability for x axis. Also, we obtain the systematic error of $1\mu\textrm{m}$ for $60\times 60\times 20 mm^3$ working volume using self-calibration with an artifact plate.

  • In this paper, an optical modulator based on monolayer graphene and triple-layer black phosphorus (BP) heterojunction in the optical communication band range is designed. The influences of geometric parameters, chemical potential, BP orientation and dispersion on the fundamental mode of this modulator were determined in detail by the finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) method. Using appropriate geometric parameter settings, the extinction ratio of this proposed modulator is 0.166 dB, while the modulator with a working length of 3 ㎛ can realize a 0.498 dB modulation depth. The 3-dB bandwidth of this modulator could achieve up to 2.65 GHz with 27.23 fJ/bit energy consumption. The extinction ratio and bandwidth of the proposed modulator increased by 66% and 120.83%, respectively, compared to the monolayer graphene-based ridge-type waveguide modulator. Energy consumption was reduced by 97.28%, compared to a double-layer graphene-based modulator.

  • The purpose of this study was to describe how Korean nurses overcome the language barrier while working in the U.S. hospital settings. Twelve Korean nurses living in New York metropolitan area were asked open-ended, descriptive questions to collect the data. The interviews were done in Korean. All interviews were audiotaped under the permission of the participants and were transcribed verbatim. The data were analyzed using grounded theory analysis. The research process consisted of two phases. In the first phase 8 Korean nurses were interviewed and analyzed. In the second phase, further data were collected to verify categories and working hypotheses that were emerged from the first phase. The results of this study show that all Korean nurses experienced severe psychological stress such as confusion, anxiety, frustration, loss of self-confidence, embarrassment, guilt, depression, anger, and fear. Among the mode of communication such as listening, speaking, leading, and writing, they had the most difficulty in speaking. Speaking ability was especially important for them because of the emphasis of individualism and self-defense in the U.S. Among the verbal communication modes, non-face-to-face communications such as phone conversation and body language were the most difficu1t for them to overcome. It took at least 2 years for the participants to initially overcome the language barrier in U.S. hospitals. After 2-5 years they began to feel comfortable even in non-face-to-face communication. They could actively search for the better place to work after 5 years. They finally felt comfortable in English and in their job almost after 10 years. The factors that influenced the English improvement were ‘the years of clinical experience in Korea’, ‘the decade they came to the U.S.’ ‘coming to U.S. alone or with other Korean nurses’, ‘racial homogeneity or heterogeneity of the working unit’, and ‘the degree of social support’. The strategies Korean nurses used to overcome the language barrier included depending on the written communication, using ‘nunchi’, working and studying hard, and establishing good interpersonal relationships with co-workers. They also employed assertive behavior of the U.S., such as using more explicit verbal language and employing smiles and eye contact with others during the conversation. The results of the study may help Korean nurses and nursing students who try to work in U.S. hospital settings by understanding problems other Korean nurses faced, factors that influenced their English improvement, and strategies they used. They may also help U.S. nurses and administrators in developing and implementing efficient programs for newly employed Korean nurses by understanding major problems and feelings the Korean nurses experienced and strategies they used to overcome the language barriers.

  • The 2.5 vol% TiNi/6061Al composites were fabricated by permanent mold casting. The microstructures and tensile test for the cold rolled composites with maximum 50% reduction ratio were investigated. In the case of TiNi fiber with 2mm interval in preform, the interface bonding of fabricated composites were good, interface diffusion layer of this composites was made by the mutual diffusion. Transverse section of TiNi fiber was decreased with increasing reduction ratio and longitudinal section of TiNi fiber showed multiple wave phenomenon. And the tensile strength of composites at 38% reduction ratio was the most high. In the case of over 38% reduction ratio, the decrease of the tensile strength was due to TiNi fiber rupture by excess working. The fracture mode was appeared brittle fracture with increasing reduction ratio.
