Living Reality of Jjok-Bang Residents and Aid Measures -In Focus of Bupyeong-gu, Incheon

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the living reality of jjok-bang residents of Sipjeong-dong, Bupyeong-gu, Incheon, and find measures of community social work to support them. Based on the precedent research on jjok-bang's creation, characteristics, and lifestyle of its residents, this study presents the results of an interview survey addressed to 132 residents living in 216 Sipjeong1-dong, Bupyeong-gu, the largest jjok-bang area in Incheon. The research was conducted by ten members of the "Sunshine" Community Center of Sipjeong-dong with constructed questionnaire. Results indicated that 74.2% of the participants were female, and 56.1% aged over 60. Despite the poor living conditions, 77% of them hoped to reside in jjok-bang continually and the most urgent problems to be resolved were housing environment, economic problems such as unemployment and a shortage of welfare facilities. The study emphasizes jjok-bang as a place of home for the residents and advocating both individual and community efforts to ameliorate the local environment of jjok-bang.

  • 최근 들어 인터넷과 기타 영상 구현 매체에서 가상현실을 구현하려는 노력들이 점점 증가하고 있다. 또한 이러한 노력들이 단지 연구나 교육에만 미치는 것이 아니라 점점 더 실생활 속에 근접되어 오고 있다. 이에 본 논문에서는 이러한 움직임에 일환으로 문화재의 보존, 홍보측면과 종교적 측면에서의 사이버 법당을 3D 애니메이션과 영상 그리고 프로그램을 사용하여 개발 구현하였다.

심미적 경험으로서의 언캐니 (Uncanny as Aesthetic Experience)

  • This paper interprets the work of Hans Bellmer, who took pictures after making a doll and distorting its form, and Diane Arbus, who took documentary photographs of unusual and marginalized people, as uncanny anxiety referred to by Freud. Through these two photographers' works, this paper examined how anxiety was used as an aesthetic strategy, and discussed the uncanny as an aesthetic experience. Uncanny refers to the phenomenon of familiar things being repressed and returning to their original place, or the phenomenon of familiarity being alienated due to repression. The aesthetic strategy of uncanny is used to bring a blind spot in reality that can be easily missed with an ordinary vision into the fore, by allowing for the slight shock to an appreciator. The ultimate goal of uncanny aesthetics is to promote both inner and external changes as well as to expand the scope of imagination, through freely crossing the borders between consciousness and unconsciousness, sympathy and antipathy, and reality and fiction.

Leap Motion을 이용한 전자부품 조립 훈련 시스템 개발에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Development of an Electronic Component Assembly Training System Using Leap Motion)

  • In this study, an electronic parts assembly training system using Leap Motion was developed in consideration of the processes actually operated in the assembly process of electronic products. Based on Leap Motion and Oculus VR equipment, the system was developed to transfer user's hand movement data in real time and convert it into hand movement in virtual space so that electronic parts assembly simulation can be performed step by step. Through this, it was confirmed that the user can obtain an experience similar to the actual electronic parts assembly work, prevent errors that may occur during the assembly process, and improve proficiency. It is expected that this thesis will provide directions for the quality improvement and development of various education and training programs for virtual reality-based manufacturing processes.

Emergence of the Metaverse and Psychiatric Concerns in Children and Adolescents

  • Advancements in digital technology have led to increased usage of digital devices among teenagers. The coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic and the subsequent implementation of social distancing policies have further accelerated this change. Consequently, a new concept called the metaverse has emerged. The metaverse is a combination of a virtual reality universe that allows individuals to meet, socialize, work, play, entertain, and create. This review provides an overview of the concept and main features of the metaverse and examples of its utilization in the real world. It also explains the unique developmental characteristics of childhood and adolescence, as well as the possible negative influences of the metaverse on them, including addiction, antisocial behavior, cyberbullying, and identity confusion. This review summarizes several suggestions for future research because the metaverse is a relatively new concept.

Compact near-eye display for firefighter's self-contained breathing apparatus

  • We introduce a display for virtual-reality (VR) fire training. Firefighters prefer to wear and operate a real breathing apparatus while experiencing full visual immersion in a VR fire space. Thus, we used a thin head-mounted display (HMD) with a light field and folded optical system, aiming to both minimize the volume for integration in front of the face into a breathing apparatus and maintain adequate visibility, including a wide viewing angle and resolution similar to that of commercial displays. We developed the optical system testing modules and prototypes of the integrated breathing apparatus. Through iterative testing, the thickness of the output optical module in front of the eyes was reduced from 50 mm to 60 mm to less than 20 mm while maintaining a viewing angle of 103°. In addition, the resolution and image quality degradation of the light field in the display was mitigated. Hence, we obtained a display with a structure consistent with the needs of firefighters in the field. In future work, we will conduct user evaluation regarding fire scene reproducibility by combining immersive VR fire training and real firefighting equipment.

이론(理論, Theoria)에 있어서의 실기의 의미 (The Meaning of Practice in Theory)

  • What is 'Art Theory'? In the western sense, the term poses a vague ambiguity, and in the eastern, it is rather an abstract and metaphysical concept. As for etymology, theory is derived from theoria and theoria from theoros. It refers to an act of viewing or seeing, of course not in a metaphysical sense. Plato understood it as 'eide'. During the time of Plotinus, theoria encompassed gazing at every possible reality, and this gazing, that is theoria, is closely related to reality as aunit that theoriacan perceive. However, we tend to distinguish, as other scientists of dualism have done, studio art from theory since a pre-modern approach to art has been particularly tuned to studio practice, set apart from theory. Therefore, in studio classes, students are expected to learn the subject based on the foundational curriculum methods such as medium, genre, technique:, rather than bringing out their own interpretations and discussing theories. As a result, students have become artists, who are not able to understand their own art. Art professors who conduct class in studio are required to proceed with specific 'theories' as well as 'intellectual reflections'. In this respect, this thesis presents poiesis and an idea of 'acting out'. Although art history and aesthetic theory tend to view art as a finished product, actual art-making and related theories should not only be acknowledged as 'completion' (finition) but also be accompanied by theoretic interpretations of the act itself and process. Accordingly, it is to accept and appreciate art as finished result in view of current theory and aesthetics thus boils down to aisthesis. Likewise, poietics starts from a point where an artist is related to studio and examines the 'work process' that extends as far as to the exact end of work. Through the study of such relationship, it is possible that theory understands 'studio' and 'process', and an artist can grant an independent meaning to studio where s/he pours her/his heart out creating a work of art. Theory is a study on artistic discovery thus should be equipped with functions that can accommodate fortuity, imitation, thinking, culture, and surrounding.

"눈보라 슈제트"에 구현된 삶-죽음의 순환구조: M.불가코프 단편 「눈보라(Вьюга)」를 중심으로 (The Cyclical Structure of "Life and Death" in "Snowstorm-Plot" Reflected in "Snowstorm" of M.A. Bulgakov)

  • In this article, we tried to introduce a little-known work of M.A. Bulgakov "Snowstorm" and provide some various clues for reading this short story. This study is focused on "snowstorm-plot", grasping the structure and the theme of the present work. To this end, in the Chapter II we tired to seek for the meanings of Bulgakov's "snowstorm" based on intertextuality shown from the works by those writers such as Pushkin, Gogol and Tolstoy. In this short story "snowstorm" is presented not only as a natural phenomenon but as a "participant" which provides young doctor-narrator with short time break and let him go to a dying bride, and at last place him on the crossroads of life and death. Indeed "snowstorm" plays a role of the framed structure of Bulgakov's text. In the Chapter III we observed the creative expression of Bulgakov's work which is comprised of overlappings with dream and reality. In other words, in the short story "Snowstorm" the outside and the inside story of frame are described as a dream of the one same night. We can guess that the Shermetievo story is a kind of dream of young doctor who fell asleep in Tuesday night, asking himself "how many patients will come tomorrow?". By the way the Shermetievo story unfolds as an incident which is happened on Wednesday. In this way in Bulgakov's "Snowstorm" it is hard to draw clear lines of demarcation between dream and reality. Therefore existential themes like these "Life and Death", "Professional calling and personal conscience", "The great nature and the week human being" are resonated with original structure "Dream in Dream".

Construction Workers' Sensation-Seeking and Inattentiveness to Warning Alarms from Construction Vehicles

  • In road work zones, pedestrian workers' habituated inattention to warning alarms from construction vehicles can lead to fatal accidents. Previous studies have theorized that human factors such as personality traits may affect workers' inattentiveness to workplace hazards. However, there has been no study that directly examined how road construction workers' personality traits affect their attention to warning alarms within a work zone and the likelihood of engagement in a struck-by accident. This study examines how workers' sensation-seeking (especially boredom susceptibility) is related to inattention to warning alarms while performing a task in road work zones. An experiment with actual road construction workers was conducted using a virtual road construction environment. Workers' attention to repeatedly presented warning alarms was measured using eye-tracking sensors. In response to workers' frequent inattentive behaviors, a virtual accident was simulated. Results revealed a significant association between boredom susceptibility and workers' engagement in the virtual accident, a consequence of inattentiveness to warning alarms. The findings suggest that workers' personality traits predispose them to tune out warning alarms and become vulnerable to accidents in road work zones. The findings of this study can be used to develop targeted interventions aimed at preventing workers' inattention to repeatedly exposed workplace hazards, thereby contributing to reducing fatal accidents in road work zones.

장애 아동 및 청소년에게 가상현실(VR) 기반 작업치료 중재가 미치는 영향: 체계적 고찰 (Effect of Virtual Reality-based Occupational Therapy Interventions for Disabled Children and Adolescents: A Systematic Review)

  • 목적 : 본 연구의 목적은 장애 아동 및 청소년에게 적용한 가상현실(Virtual Reality; VR) 기반 작업치료 중재의 효과와 적용 방법에 대해서 체계적으로 분석하고자 한다. 연구방법 : 2012년 1월부터 2022년 8월까지 RISS, DBpia, KCI, Science direct, CINAHL MEDLINE에서 문헌을 검색하였다. 주요 검색용어로 '가상현실', '작업치료', '아동', '청소년', 'Virtual Reality', 'Occupational Therapy', 'Child', 'Adolescent'을 사용하였다. PRISMA의 Flowchart 4단계를 거쳐 총 16편의 문헌을 분석 대상으로 선정하였다. 결과 : 선정된 16편의 연구에서 장애 아동 및 청소년에게 사용된 VR 기반 작업치료 중재가 유의미한 효과를 보였다. 중재 대상자는 뇌성마비 유형 중 편마비 아동을 대상으로 한 연구가 가장 많았으며, 효과 측정에 사용된 평가도구는 일상생활활동, 인지, 운동기술, 사회적-상호작용기술, 시-지각 평가이었다. 중재 도구로는 Nintendo Wii와 Microsoft Kinect가 운동기술 및 일상생활 향상을 위하여 가장 많이 사용되었다. 결론 : 본 연구를 바탕으로 향후에는 장애 아동 및 청소년의 진단과 중재목적에 맞는 VR 도구 선택과 구체적인 방법의 제시를 통하여 VR중재가 임상에서 더욱 효과적으로 사용될 수 있을 것이라 기대한다.
