  • This study has described the case that has been experienced personally by centering on discords created in railway construction projects while performing practical duties at the construction field. Accordingly, as seen from the experience of performing one method called discord reconciliation conference, it seems that there are many parts to be improved on for the particular details because the conference was progressed by the position of a non professional in its content or procedure. But as seen from the word origin called "discord", looking at the state of finding one solution after another from vagueness of solving difficult and entangled problems, we could sense that the sincere communication and honesty was more progressive method in the phase of looking for one solution after another. Although this essay was centered on a typical case of railway construction project, I hope for it to spread throughout the whole society and especially hope that many discords created in public work sites such as public works would become settled smoothly between the parties concerned.

  • Amorphous hydrous ruthenium oxide thin films have attracted much interest owing to the possibility of using this material in electrochemical supercapacitors. Recently, it was found that this material is also electrochromic: during the charging/discharging cycle, the optical transmittance of the thin film is modulated. The physical and chemical origin of this phenomenon is not fully understood yet. In this work, we performed in-situ Raman spectroscopy measurements on amorphous hydrous ruthenium oxide thin films during the charging/discharging cycles. Unambiguous changes in the Raman spectrum were observed as protons were injected or extracted from the thin film. When the samples were annealed to reduce the water content, there is a consistent trend in the Raman spectrum. The origins of the Raman features and their relation to the electrochromic and/or supercapacitor characteristics is discussed.

  • The morphology of etch pits in commercial 4H-SiC epi-wafer were investigated by molten-KOH etching. The etching process was optimized in $525{\sim}570^{\circ}C$ at 2~10 min and the novel type of etch pits was revealed. This type of etch pits have been considered as TED (threading edge dislocation) II, its origin and nature, however, are not reported yet. In this work, the morphology and evolution of etch pits during epitaxial growth were analyzed and the different behavior between TED and TEDII was discussed.

  • In deuterium NMR spectra of phosphatidylethanolamine bilayers with an extremely high content of saturated fatty acids, each C1 deuteron of the glycerol backbone gave rise to a doublet. This suggests the presence of two backbone conformations, the exchange between which is slow on an NMR time scale. The origin of the two conformations has been investigated in this work using saturated 1,2-diacyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphoethanolamine specifically deuterated in the glycerol backbone. The results showed that the two conformations originate from different domains, which have different fatty acid compositions. The differential scanning calorimetry of the bilayers suggested that the size of the domain is not large enough to show an independent phase transition. Thus, the formation of microdomains in the phosphatidylethanolamine bilayers has been concluded. Conformational difference in different domains was shown to be restricted to the C1 position of the glycerol backbone. The microdomains of phosphatidylethanolamine were retained even in the presence of other phospholipids.

  • This study investigates the effect of high-skilled inventor emigration rate on growth rate of the country of origin (COO). Inventor emigrants represent the human capital that can generate highly innovative work. The social network they form spurs knowledge diffusion and technology transfer back to their COOs, which in turn affects innovation and growth in their home countries. We run dynamic panel estimation for 154 countries during 1990-2011, and empirically show that a positive and statistically significant effect exists for the interaction of inventor emigration and trade. The result indicates that the direct negative impact of the brain drain can be mitigated by the positive feedback effect generated by the high-skilled inventor emigrants abroad. When coupled with an active trade policy that reinforces growth, countries can partially recoup the direct effect of the human capital loss. We stress the importance of international trade for successful technology transfer to occur, and offer insights for policies that can utilize the benefits of the rich social network of their high-skilled emigrants.

  • The p-fluorotoluene was vibronically excited in a jet with a buffer gas He in a corona excited supersonic expansion. The vibronic emission spectrum of the jet cooled p-fluorotoluene in the transition of S1 → S0 has been recorded with a Fourier transform spectrometer in the uv region. The spectrum observed was analyzed to obtain accurate vibrational frequencies in the ground electronic state by comparing with those reported previously. The origin of the low frequency sequence bands observed in this work was discussed. Also, the absence of significant intensity of hot band resulting from the excited vibrational states in the spectrum suggests extensive vibrational cooling in the source.

  • Twenty trace elements were determined in 250 Korean potsherds and 5 clay samples by instrumental NAA. In the absence of identified samples of known origin, the potsherds were classified by a hierarchical centroid sorting method to construct a dendrogram. From this dendrogram 61 well-defined samples were selected to form 8 subclasses and five elements such as Cr, Cs, Sm, Sc and Th were supposed to be the main contributors for the classification. The 61 samples along with 5 clay samples were reclassified by means of minimal spanning tree as well as the hierarchical centroid sorting method by using 5 elements selected. As the results, the potsherds of certain classes defined in this work could be taken as a basis for latter identification and served as batches of identified species.

  • An atlantoaxial subluxation from the unstable Os odontoideum by the failure of proper integrations between the embryological somites might be a commonly reported pathology. However, its suspicious origin or paralleled occurrence with other congenital anomalies of vertebral body might be a relatively rare phenomenon. The authors present two cases, who simply presented with clinical signs of prolonged, intractable cervicalgia without any neurological deficits, revealed this rare feature of C1-2 subluxation from the unstable, orthotropic type of Os odontoideum that coincide with congenitally fused cervical vertebral bodies between C2-3. Surprisingly, in one case, when traced from the lower cervical down to the thoracic-lumbar levels during the preoperative work-up process, was also compromised with multi-level butterfly vertebrae formations. Presented cases highlight the association of various congenital vertebrae anomalies and the rationale to fuse only affected joints.

  • The design and implementation of the so-called Mexican Fourth Transformation(Cuarta Transformacion, 4T), as an alternative form of government, faces daily the attack and violence of conservatism through a permanent campaign that seeks to instill fear in society, based on a web of lies that tries to create the image of a situation of political ungovernance in the public opinion. This work is a documentary analysis that accounts for the types of harassment of the conservative elite against the 4T; the objective is to show the forms of violence that threaten democracy. In conclusion, this study attempts to argue that the violence that conservative neoliberals caused against the 4T has its origin in that they feel threatened, because the reform policy of AMLO goes against their class interests.

  • We present optical variability of nearby luminous active galactic nucleus (AGN). We use the multi-epoch data of 46 AGNs obtained from 2015 to 2019 through SNU AGN Monitoring Project (SAMP), which was carried out for the reverberation mapping of luminous AGNs. We estimated variability amplitudes and time scales using the various types of analytic function, such as structure function and damped random work. We present the comparisons between physical properties of AGNs and optical variability in order to unveil the origin of the variability of AGNs.
