The deformed layers generated in face milling works were comparatively investigated to type 316L and nitrogen(N)-added type 316LN stainless steels. In order to characterize mechanical properties between type 316L and type 316LN, high-temperature tensile tests were conducted with different temperatures: R.T to $700^{\circ}C$. The cutting forces of three components, Fx, Fy and Fz were measured using a tool dynamometer through the face milling cutting tests. The deformed layers were measured by micro-hardness tests along deformed layers. The results of mechanical properties showed that type 316LN was superior to type 316L. The deformed layers of two steels were generated in the 1501m-3001m ranges, and type 316L was higher than type 316LN. The reason for this is due to the high strength properties by nitrogen effect. It was found that deformed structures were well observed for type 316L, but were minutely observed for type 316LN in this cutting conditions.
The main objective of this study is to examine the sensitivity of calibration curves of FEA of ring compression test to frictional shear factor. Ring compression test has been investigated by measuring dimensional changes at different positions of ring specimen and they include the changes in internal diameter at the middle and top section of the specimen, outer diameter at the middle and top section, surface expansion at the top surface, respectively. Initial ring geometries employed in analysis maintain a fixed ratio of 6 : 3 : 2, i.e. outer diameter : inner diameter : thickness of the ring specimen, which is generally known as 'standard' specimen. A rigid plastic material for different work-hardening characteristics has been modeled for simulations using rigid-plastic finite element code. Analyses have been performed within a definite range of friction as well as over whole range of friction to show different sensitivities to the interfacial friction for different ranges of friction. The results of investigation in this study have been summarized in terms of a dimensionless gradient. It has been known from the results that the dimensional changes at different positions of ring specimen show different linearity and sensitivity to the frictional condition on the contact surface.

Indentation and small punch tests are very powerful methods to monitor the materials reliability since they are very simple, easy and almost non-destructive. First, recently-developed continuous indentation test can provide the more material properties such as hardness, elastic modulus, yield strength, work-hardening exponent, etc., than the conventional hardness test. In our study, the true stress-strain curve was derived from the indentation load-depth curve for spherical indentation. In detail, the strain was able to be obtained from plastic depth/contact radius ratio, and the flow stress was from mean contact pressure through the analysis of elastic-plastic indentation stress field. Secondly, the small punch test was studied to evaluate the fracture toughness and defomation properties such as elastic modulus and yield strength. Like the indentation test, this test can be applied without severe damage of the target structure.
Porous surfaced Ti implant compacts were fabricated by electro-discharging-sintering (EDS) of atomized spherical Ti powders. Powders of $50-100{\mu}m$ in diameter were vibratarily settled into a quarts tube and subject to a high voltage and high density current pulse in Ar atmosphere. Single pulse of 0.7 to 2.0 kJ/0.7 gpowder, from 150, 300, and $450{\mu}F$ capacitors was applied in less than $400{\mu}sec$ to produce twelve different porous-surfaced Ti implant compacts. The solid core formed in the center of the compact shows similar microstructure of cp Ti which was annealed and quenched in water. Hardness value at the solid core was much higher than that at the particle interface and particles in the porous layer, which can be attributed to both heat treatment and work hardening effects induced by EDS. Compression tests were made to evaluate the mechanical properties of the EDS compacts. The compressive yield strength was in a range of 12 to 304MPa which significantly depends on input energy. Selected porous-surfaced Ti-6Al-4V dental implant compacts with a solid core have much higher compressive strengths compared to the human teeth and sintered Ti dental implants fabricated by conventional sintering process.
Laser surface treatment technologies have been used to improve characteristics of wear and to enhance the fatigue resistance for mold parts. The optical lens with the elliptical profile is designed to obtain a wide surface hardening area with a uniform hardness. The objective of this research work is to investigate the influence of the process parameters, such as power of laser and defocused spot position, on the characteristics of laser surface treatment for the case of SKD61 steel and SCM4 steel. From the results of the experiments, it has been shown that the maximum average hardness is approximatly 700${\sim}$780 Hv when the power, focal position and the travel of laser are 1,095 W, 0mm and 0.3 m/min, respectively. In samples treated with lower scanning speeds, some small carbide particles appear in the interdendritic regions. This region contains fine martensite and carbide in proportions which depend on the local thermal cycle.

In this work, an integrated model including molecular dynamics and chemical rate theory was implemented to calculate the growth of point defect clusters(PDC) and copper-rich precipitates(CRP) which could change the mechanical properties of reactor pressure vessel(RPV) steels in a nuclear power plant. A number of time-dependent differential equations were established and numerically integrated to estimate the evolution of irradiation defects. The calculation showed that the concentration of the vacancies was higher than that of the self-interstitial atoms. The higher concentration of vacancies induced a formation of the CRPs in the later stage. The size of the CRPs was used to estimate the mechanical property changes in RPV steels, as is the same case with the PDCs. The calculation results were compared with the measured values of yield strength change and Charpy V-notch transition temperature shift, which were obtained from the surveillance test data of Korean light water reactors(LWRs). The estimated values were in fair agreement with the experimental results in spite of the uncertainty of the modeling parameters.
In this study, surface deformation patterns have been investigated by the rigid-plastic finite element method for friction factor test in solid cylinder compression process. AA1100 and AA6063 aluminum alloys, which show different work hardening characteristics respectively, have been adopted as model materials used for analysis. The main objective of this study is to provide the deformation mechanics in detail in solid cylinder compression process, especially at the die/workpiece interface that is closely related with the frictional conditions. For this reason, solid cylinder compression process has been numerically analyzed. The surface flow patterns at the contact boundary have been analyzed in terms of surface expansion, surface expansion velocity, pressure distributions exerted on the die surface along the die surface. By defining bulge factor, barreling phenomenon also have been examined with calibration curves to verify their effects on the surface flow pattern that is important for evaluating the frictional condition at the interface.

This paper is concerned with a collapse behavior analysis for a thin-walled structure considering farming effects. Numerical simulation is carried out with a finite element limit analysis in order to identify forming effects on collapse behavior of a thin-walled structure such as an S-rail. The formed S-rail contains fabrication histories such as residual stress, work hardening, non-uniform thickness distribution and geometric changes resulted from the forming process. The collapse behavior analysis of an S-rail with forming effects leads to different results from that without such effects. The present study deals with the collapse analysis of the S-rail fabricated with the typical forming, trimming and springback processes. Collapse properties such as the collapse load, the collapse mode and the energy absorption are calculated and investigated In order to identify forming effects. It is fully demonstrated that the design of thin-walled structures needs to consider the forming effects for a proper assessment of the load-carrying capacity and the deformation of the formed structures.

The present work focuses on the characterization of material parameters of the Overlay(multilinear hardening) model for analyzing the non-isothermal cyclic deformation. In the previous study, all the parameters were especially based on the Overlay theories, and a simple method was suggested to find out the best material parameters for the isothermal cyclic deformation analysis. Based on the previous research this paper f dther improves the isothermal parameters and suggests how to apply the isothermal parameters to the non-isothermal conditions especially for the description of TMF(Thermo-Mechanical Fatigue) hysteresis behavior. The parameters are determined and calibrated using 400 series stainless steel test data in the reference papers. For the implementation into ABAQUS, a user subroutine is developed by means of ABAQUS/UMAT. The finite element results show good agreement with test for the case of uniaxial non-isothermal cyclic loading, signifying the proposed method can be used in the TMF analysis of the converter-inserted heavy duty muffler system and the stainless steel exhaust-manifold system which are to be done in our future research.
A rational three-dimensional nonlinear finite element model is described and implemented for evaluating the behavior of high strength concrete slabs under transverse load. The concrete was idealized by using twenty-nodded isoparametric brick elements with embedded reinforcements. The concrete material modeling allows for normal (NSC) and high strength concrete (HSC), which was calibrated based on experimental data. The behavior of concrete in compression is simulated by an elastoplastic work-hardening model, and in tension a suitable post-cracking model based on tension stiffening and shear retention models are employed. The nonlinear equations have been solved using the incremental iterative technique based on the modified Newton-Raphson method. The FE formulation and material modeling is implemented into a finite element code in order to carry out the numerical study and to predict the behavior up to ultimate conditions of various slabs under transverse loads. The validity of the theoretical formulations and the program used was verified through comparison with available experimental data, and the agreement has proven to be very good. A parametric study has been also carried out to investigate the influence of different material and geometric properties on the behavior of HSC slabs. Influencing factors, such as concrete strength, steel ratio, aspect ratio, and support conditions on the load-deflection characteristics, concrete and steel stresses and strains were investigated.
