Objectives : To investigate terminology of Herbal drug discrimination commonly used in China, and it was translated into Korean. It also has been modified to fit the circumstances of the Korean for easier understand for Korean student. Methods : First,Terminology for Identification of the Chinese Herbal Materia Medica (TICHMM) was classified by the appearance, cut surface, material, processing and storage of Herb. Chinese commentary of TICHMM was translated into Korean. Comparative Study was performed based on the Pharmacopoeia of Korea and China. Depending on the meaning of the word, TICHMM was modified to revised Korean expression or remain chinese expression or suggest new Korean expression Result : In the 28 TICHMM terms that describes the shape properties of herbal medicine, 5 was remained in Chinese expression, 22 was modified to revised Korean expression and 1 was suggested in new Korean expression. 8 terms that describes the Section properties of herbal medicine, 6 was modified to revised Korean expression and 2 was suggested in new Korean expression. 3 terms that describes the Material properties of herbal medicine, 1 was remained in Chinese expression, 2 was modified to revised Korean expression. 3 terms that describes the processing and storage properties of herbal medicine, 2 was modified to revised Korean expression and 1 was suggested in new Korean expression. Conclusion : By comparative Study of TICHMM, commonly used in China, it will contribute new guideline on the Visual Examination of Herbal Medicine for Korean student.
Recently, lip-reading has been studied actively as an auxiliary method of automatic speech recognition(ASR) in noisy environments. However, almost of research results were obtained based on the database constructed in indoor condition. So, we dont know how developed lip-reading algorithms are robust to dynamic variation of image. Currently we have developed a lip-reading system based on image-transform based algorithm. This system recognize 22 words and this word recognizer achieves word recognition of up to 53.54%. In this paper we present how stable the lip-reading system is in environmental variance and what the main variant factors are about dropping off in word-recognition performance. For studying lip-reading robustness we consider spatial valiance (translation, rotation, scaling) and illumination variance. Two kinds of test data are used. One Is the simulated lip image database and the other is real dynamic database captured in car environment. As a result of our experiment, we show that the spatial variance is one of degradations factors of lip reading performance. But the most important factor of degradation is not the spatial variance. The illumination variances make severe reduction of recognition rates as much as 70%. In conclusion, robust lip reading algorithms against illumination variances should be developed for using lip reading as a complementary method of ASR.

The purpose of this paper is to investigate how Japan tried to dominate Chosen through educational policies by analyzing three official English texts published by the Japanese Government-General of Korea: the First Chosen Educational Ordinance declared in 1911, the Manual of Education of Koreans(1913), and the Manual of Education in Chosen 1920(1920). In order to pursue this purpose, the present study carried a corpus-based diachronic analysis, rather then a qualitative analysis. Facilitating text analytics such as Word Cloud and CONCOR, this paper derived the following results: First, the first Chosen Educational Ordinance(1911) includes overall educational regulations, curriculum, and operations of schools. Second, the Manual of Education of Koreans(1913) contains the educational medium and contents on how to educate. Finally, it can be proposed that the Manual of Education in Chosen 1920(1920) contains specific implementation of education and the subject of education.
Types of emotional expressions are comprised of vocabulary that describes emotion and composition of sentences to express emotion such as an exclamatory sentence and a rhetorical question, expressions of interjection, adverbs of attitude for an idea, and a style of writing. This study is focused on vocabulary that describes emotion and analyzes the aspect of translation when emotional expression of 'Kyo(驚)' is shown in "Kokoro". As a result, the aspect of translation for expression of 'Kyo(驚)' showed that it was translated to vocabulary as suggested in the dictionary in some cases. However, it was not always translated as suggested in the dictionary. Vocabulary that describes the emotion of 'Kyo(驚)' in Japanese sentences is mostly translated to corresponding parts of speech in Korean. Some adverbs needed to add 'verbs' when they were translated. Different vocabulary was added or used to maximize emotion. However, the corresponding part of speech in English was different from Korean. Examples of Japanese sentences expressing 'Kyo(驚)' by verbs were translated to expression of participles for passive verbs such as 'surprise' 'astonish' 'amaze' 'shock' 'frighten' 'stun' in many cases. Idioms were also translated with focus on the function of sentences rather than the form of sentences. Those expressed in adverbs did not accompany verbs of 'Kyo(驚)'. They were translated to expression of participles for passive verbs and adjectives such as 'surprise' 'astonish' 'amaze' 'shock' 'frighten' 'stun' in many cases. Main agents of emotion were showat the first person and the third person in simple sentences. Translation of emotional expressions when a main agent was the first person showed that the fundamental word order of Japanese was translated as in Korean. However, adverbs of time and adverbs of degree were ended to be added. The first person as the main agent of emotion was positioned at the place of subject when it was translated in English. However, things or causes of events were positioned at the place of subject in some cases to show the degree of 'Kyo(驚)' which the main agent experienced. The expression of conjecture and supposition or a certain visual and auditory basis was added to translate the expression of emotion when the main agent of emotion was the third person. Simple sentences without the main agent of emotion showed that their subjects could be omitted even if they were essential components because they could be known through context in Korean. These omitted subjects were found and translated in English. Those subjects were not necessarily human who was the main agent of emotion. They could be things or causes of events that specified the expression of emotion.

The Koreanology as well as a study of the classics should start from the correct understanding of certain words or concepts. Inaccurate or even misinterpreted explanation is bound to lead to failure. More precisely, it was a nickname of Hanyang Yangban in the 18th and 19th century. However, the historical research is just not as having a meaning only one explanation for the particular word. Dare to be confident that these study are meaningful. In the extremely weak division in the understanding of the original text, the cases of applying blindly without a reflection occurs frequently. This short manuscript is to give warning to recent trends. Humanities and classical field researchers made very carefully, taking into account the impact of translation and annotations, and the other branch to accommodate the research of classical humanities disciplines should try to see this information must be verified meets the facts.
This paper is intended to find out what kinds of fruits are mentioned in the Bible and how they were used in those days. It has also analyzed in what terms they are expressed in the Korean Version of the Bible and studied agricultural regulations involved in the religion, and allegorical uses of the fruits. Olives were the primary fruit in the economy of the ancient times, followed by figs and vines. In addition, there are mentioned in the Bible almonds, apples, dates. mulberries and pomegranates. Olive trees have been grown for more than six thousand years. The Hebrew word. Zayit is mentioned in the Bible more than fifty times. Olive trees are not so beautiful in themselves but as they give us humans abundant reap and a lot of oil, they have been thought to be beautiful. Olive trees grow well on the seaside in the salty air and fog. Vines began to grown as early as in the Bronze Age(the period of 3000 to 2000 B.C.). In Northern Greece, grape seeds were found to belong to the year 4500 B.C. or so. The vine gardens produced raisins and wine as well as vines. Figs are the fruit which are first mentioned in the Bible(Genesis 3:7) and they were the precious product of the Palestine people, which is described in Deuteronomy 8:8. Figs are sweet and watery and can easily quench thirst on hot summer days. They were used for cookies and wine in the raw or dried state. An apple, which is tappuah in Hebrew, is mentioned as 'Sagwa' six times in the Revised Korean Version, and in the Korean Joint Version it is twice mentioned as 'Sagwa' and as 'Neungum' four times. Some maintain that the apples in the Bible refer to apricots(Prunus armeniaca, Citrus medica L.) or golden oranges (Citrus sinensis L. Obsbeck) which is confusing. In the Revised Korean Version, 'Salgu(apricots)' appears eight times while ASV and KJV translate almond into 'Salgu'. So since translating a genuine apricot into 'Salgu' can be confusing, a great care should be taken in the translation into Korean. Some hold that as some papyri arround the year 1200 B.C. describes pomegranate, apple, olive and fig trees growing on the Nile delta, tappuah rightly refers to 'Sagwa(apple)' In the Korean Joint Version, Sagwa and Neungum are used together to refer to the same fruit, which should be avoided. It is desirable to use the same word for the same thing. Sagwa' showing up six times In the HeL.Ised Korean Version should all be replaced by 'Neungum' Dates symbolized peace and abundance were used for food in the raw or dried state, and were made into honey. Pomegranates can be eaten in the raw state and be used for sherbets and wine. Juice made of promegranates can be mixed with wine and drunk.
This paper presents the performance enhancement of automatic bilingual lexicon extraction by using refinement of pivot-context vectors under the standard pivot-based approach, which is very effective method for less-resource language pairs. In this paper, we gradually improve the performance through two different refinements of pivot-context vectors: One is to filter out unhelpful elements of the pivot-context vectors and to revise the values of the vectors through bidirectional translation probabilities estimated by Anymalign and another one is to remove non-noun elements from the original vectors. In this paper, experiments have been conducted on two different language pairs that are bi-directional Korean-Spanish and Korean-French, respectively. The experimental results have demonstrated that our method for high-frequency words shows at least 48.5% at the top 1 and up to 88.5% at the top 20 and for the low-frequency words at least 43.3% at the top 1 and up to 48.9% at the top 20.
The purpose of this study was aimed to compare the lexical access and representation of semantic system in the bilinguals. The participants(late Korean-English bilinguals) performed the word-picture matching task. The task was to decide whether the pictures presented after the words(basic-level categories) represent the Korean(L1) or English(L2) words' meaning or not. The stimuli were consisted of common object belonged to four different categories(animal, part of body, clothes, tool). To control the translation strategies, the SOA(stimulus onset asynchrony) were manipulated as 650ms(Exp. 1) and 200ms(Exp. 2). In both experiment, the RTs were faster in L1 condition. The decision time of the part of body categories were shorter than the animal in L1 condition. In L2 condition, clothes were responded faster than the tools. The differences of the lexical access time implied that the bilingual semantic system seemed to be structured by more sub-level categories than the super-level, living or non-living things, and the ways to access the bilingual lexicon might be differentiated according to the languages.
In the 2020s, the K-Pop market has been dominated by girl groups over boy groups and the fourth generation over the third generation. This paper presents methods and results on lyric clustering to investigate whether the generation of girl groups has started to change. We collected meta-information data for 1469 songs of 47 groups released from 2013 to 2022 and classified them into lyric information and non-lyric meta-information and quantified them respectively. The lyrics information was preprocessed by applying word-translation frequency vectorization based on previous studies and then selecting only the top vector values. Non-lyric meta-information was preprocessed and applied with One-Hot Encoding to reduce the bias of using only lyric information and show better clustering results. The clustering performance on the preprocessed data is 129%, 45% higher for Spherical K-Means' Silhouette Score and Calinski-Harabasz Score, respectively, compared to Hierarchical Clustering. This paper is expected to contribute to the study of Korean popular song development and girl group lyrics analysis and clustering.
In this article, another literatures that original Korean own red pepper (Gochu) was cultivated from ancient years and there were many other varieties of Gocho in Korea were shown. The first book where Gochu was appeared as written in Hangul (Korean own character invented by King Sejong in 1433) was Hunmongjahoe (訓蒙字會) written by Choi Sejin in 1527. However, many books where cho(椒) indicating Korean red pepper (Gochu) was described before Hunmongjahoe. This is consistent with Hongjaejonso(弘齋全書, 1799). King Jungjo asked Kim Dalsun about the type of Cho(椒) in Hongjaejonso, Kim Dalsun answered to King Jungjo that there are many types of Cho such as Chokcho(蜀椒), Jincho(秦椒), Dancho(丹椒), Daecho(大椒) and Hocho(胡椒). When common characteristics in Chokcho, Jincho, Dancho, Daecho and Hocho in Hongjaejonso were studied, it was found that these Chos had one word in common "Gocho(고쵸)" in the Korean translation. Also several Chos such as Buncho(蕃椒), Nammancho(南蠻椒), Mancho(蔓椒) were characterized as Gocho in ancient books. In conclusion there were several Chos such as Chokcho, Jincho, Dancho, Daecho, Hocho, Buncho, Nammancho, Mancho, etc indicating the various types of Cho, and these were all written as Gocho(고쵸) in the Korean character. An original Korean Gocho should be cultivated in Korean peninsula. Several different types of Cho were imported during the course of trade with foreign countries, and these foreign Chos called as Buncho(蕃椒), Nammancho(南蠻椒), Mancho(蔓椒) by discriminating original Korean Gocho(고쵸). The original name of Gochu(고추) is Gocho. Later the Chinese character for Gocho(苦椒) invented in response to the Korean character of "Gocho(고쵸)" by necessity.
