  • Wonju Medical Equipment Industry, despite of its short history, poor sales and weak manpower and so on, have shown remarkable outcomes in a relatively short period. At the end of 2007, totally 79 enterprises (only 4.6% of whole enterprises in Korea) made 10% of the nationwide production and 15% of the nationwide exports with an annual average growth rate of 66.7%, contributing domestic medical equipment industry tremendously. In addition, many leading medical equipment enterprises in various fields already moved or plan to move to Wonju, accelerating Wonju Medical Equipment Cluster. Wonju Medical Equipment Industry Cluster now enters into the growth stage, getting out of the initial business setup stage. Especially, the nomination of Wonju cluster project from the government accelerates networking (e.g. the development of the universal parts, the establishment of the mutual collaboration model among enterprises, and the mutual marketing), making a rapid growth in Wonju Medical Equipment Industry. Wonju Medical Equipment Industry Cluster revealed positive outcomes despite of the weakness in investment size and infra-structure comparing with the other medical industry cluster in the advanced country, while many domestic enterprises pursued their own growth models and thus failed to promote the international competitive power. Wonju Medical Equipment Industry has been developed rapidly. However, there are many challenging problems to support enterprises: small R&D investment and thus weak technology power, difficulties in recruiting R&D engineers, and poor marketing capabilities, financial infrastructure & policies, and network architecture. In order to develop a world-competitive medical equipment industry cluster at Wonju, the complement of infrastructures, the technology innovation, the mutual marketing, and the network expansion to support enterprises are further required. Wonju' s experiences in developing medical equipment industry so far suggest that our own flexible cluster model considering the industry structure and maturity for different regions should be developed, and specific action plans from the local and central governments based on their systematic strategies for industry development should be implemented in order to build world-competitive industry clusters in Korea.

  • The purposes of this study were to compare the sensitivities of two tests, QST(quantitative sensory test)and PPG(photoplethysmography) in normal adults. We evaluated the sensory thresholds of QST and PPG and diabetes mellitus test in 17 normal adults. The finding of this study can be summarized as follow :The diagnostic sensitivities of QST was similar to PPG. There is a direct correlation between the amount of Blood sugar and parasympathetic nerve in ANS. Concluded that the QST might be complement to NCS for early of diabetic polyneuropathy. A new diagnostic approach, QST was introduced and exploited for diagnosis. This study provides support for PPG performed a ANS analysis.

  • This article verifies the actual conditions of the Wonju area medical devices cluster for presentation of method for increasing promotion. It examines the general status of companies, reason for location, competitive power and supporting system with a questionnaire survey and in-depth research. The Wonju area has 79 medical device companies. It comprised 9% of total sales and 11% of export sales of korea medical devices in 2007. For enhancement of the Wonju area medical devices ability to accumulate and attract of medical device companies and front-line and back-line industries, the followings is needed, a supply of highly qualified man power, a support base for developing modem technology and information marketing, adequate infrastructure for housing and education system, methodologies for sustaining new business and innovation fund-raising programs and marketing, and provide the highest degree of education for CEO.

  • In this paper, we implement a common module that can integrate multiple biometric information for integrated patient monitoring system. Conventional biomedical instruments have many devices attached to each patient, making it difficult to monitor abnormality signs of many patients in real time. In this paper, we propose a module for an integrated monitoring system that can perform centralized monitoring using a common module that integrates multiple measurement devices. A protocol for sending and receiving packets between the measuring device and the common module is designed, and the packets transmitted through the network are stored and managed through the integrated monitoring system and provide information to various users such as medical staff. The results of this study are expected to contribute to the management of patients and efficient medical services in hospitals.

  • According to Myers (1984) and Myers and Majluf(1984), there exists a financial hierarchy from internal to external financing, from long-tenn debt to equity, due to information costs. The purpose of this study is to assess the profit-making corporation of healthcare institutions. Data was collected from 130 hospital presidents and financial managers. We analysed the frequency and one way ANOVA by SPSS Windows 14.0K. The major findings of the study were as follows: We found that the priorities which a healthcare institutions financing were internal financial, other allowance, a credit loan, a security loan, and a lease through this study. The priorities which a healthcare institutions raised the capital differed as to the number of beds and revenues. The priorities were no difference from ownership, location and an annual business.

  • In this paper, we design a small low power single channel ECG(Electrocardiogram) system of Chest Belt type with fiber-type electrodes to measure emotional state change of game addict. HRV(Heart Rate Variability) is analyzed through heart rate signal measurement and the psychological stress state is judged by using it. And it verifies its effectiveness through prototype. First, we design HR measurement module through low power MCU(Micro Controller Unit) and implement prototype level measurement system. The results showed that the difference between the addiction group and the general group was confirmed and that the system was effective. The result of this study can be used for health management such as reduction of stress of the user through music and breathing that lowers the stress by detecting the stress state of the general person or the chronic ill person.

  • In this study, we attempt to design a real-time autonomic nervous system(ANS) evaluation system usable during exercise using heart instantaneous frequency(HIF). Although heart rate variability(HRV) is considered to be a representative signal widely used ANS evaluation system, the R-peak detection process must be included to obtain an HRV signal, which involves a high sampling frequency and interpolation process. In particular, it cannot accurately evaluate the ANS using HRV signals during exercise because it is difficult to detect the R-peak of electrocardiogram(ECG) signals with exposure to many noises during exercise. Therefore, in this study, we develop the ground for a system that can analyze an ANS in real-time by using the HIF signal circumventing the problem of the HRV signal during exercise. First, we compare the HRV and HIF signals in order to prove that the HIF signal is more efficient for ANS analysis than HRV signals during exercise. Further, we performed real-time ANS analysis using HIF and confirmed that the exerciser's ANS variation experiences massive surges at points of acceleration and deceleration of the treadmill(similar to HRV).

  • In this paper, we propose an edge computing-based exercise data collection device that can be provided for exercise rehabilitation services. In the existing cloud computing method, when the number of users increases, the throughput of the data center increases, causing a lot of delay. In this paper, we design and implement a device that measures and estimates the position of keypoints of body joints for movement information collected by a 3D camera from the user's side using edge computing and transmits them to the server. This can build a seamless information collection environment without load on the cloud system. The results of this study can be utilized in a personalized rehabilitation exercise coaching system through IoT and edge computing technologies for various users who want exercise rehabilitation.
