It was well received that well grounded behavioral theories were important in the development of effective nutrition education programs, but there are only a few programs available for Korean women. The objective of this study was to develop nutrition education programs for childbearing-aged women in Korea. Based on the findings of the needs assessment for the program and theoretical backgrounds, we developed behaviorally oriented tailored nutrition education program including motivation (MT), modifying (MD) and maintenance (MA) stages. The key concepts of the stages were motivation promotion for MT, increasing behavioral capabilities for MD, and strengthening self-management and building favorable environmental condition for MA. The education program was intended to be need in individual nutrition counseling, but it could be well used for group education by developing materials using the relevant contents. The primary users of the program were nutrition educators, however it could be also used by clients as needed. The introductory chapter provided dietary assessment tools and nutrition education tips. MT chapter included subjects such as nutritional status screening, costs of inappropriate nutrition and weight management, benefits of eating right, and activities for motivation promotion. MD stage chapter dealt with topics of healthy weight, knowledges and skills for better eating habits and physical activity status, and activities related to setting tailored behavioral objectives. MA stage focused on facilitating self management skills and building helping relationships. Each stage underlined activities using various educational tools in order to promote active participation of the client (s). For better use of this program, it was recommended to conduct program validation study.
Objectives : To evaluate the diagnostic value of quantitative ultrasound (QUS) in the prediction of osteoporosis as defined by dual energy x-ray absorptiometry (DEXA) in postmenopausal women. Methods : Questionnaires and height and weight measurements were used in the investigation of 176 postmenopausal women. QUS measurements were taken on the right calcaneus while bone mineral density (BMD) measurements of the lumbar spine and femoral neck were made with DEXA. The areas under the curves (AUC) of the speed of sound (SOS) for osteoporosis in the lumbar spine and femoral neck were obtained through receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analysis and evaluated. A comparison was made, for osteoporosis in the lumbar spine and femoral neck, between the AUCs of the logistic model with clinical risk factors and SOS. Results : Pearson's correlation coefficients of SOS and lumbar spine BMD, and of SOS and femoral neck BMD were 0.26 and 0.37. The AUC for the logistic model in its discrimination for lumbar spine osteoporosis was 0.764, and for SOS 0.605. The AUCs for the logistic model in its discrimination for femoral neck osteoporosis and for SOS were 0.890 and 0.892, respectively. Conclusions : These results suggest that the diagnostic value of QUS as a screening tool for osteoporosis is moderate for the femoral neck, but merely low for the lumbar spine and that the predictability provided by SOS is no better than that by the sole use of clinical risk factors in postmenopausal women.
Background: The purpose of this study was to assessment of posture sway on static standing in the elderly. Methods: The participants aged 60 to 90 years, were divided into age such 60s, 70s and 80s and with a history of exercise, arthritis and hang on one's stick. Posture sway were analyzed using the computerized BPM system. Each test was repeated three times. All the data were expressed means and standard deviation by using SPSS 12.0 program. Results: The posture sway test according to sex showed that mean balance, sway number and frequency performance were significantly stable in men than in women. All direction frequency, sway area, sway path and max velocity were significantly unstable in 80s than 70s and 60s. The results of the posture sway test according to exercise group, arthritis and hang on one's stick group were showed that mean balance function was significantly stable in exercise group than arthritis and stick groups. The weight was showed significant correlation by mean balance, sway no, frequency, sway area, sway path and max velocity. Sway area and max velocity were not significant correlation by frequency of lateral and left, right anterior and posterior direction. Conclusion: In this study was showed that posture sway was effected from health condition of elderly.
Purpose: Smoking during pregnancy contributes to the risk of negative health outcomes in mothers and babies. The purposes of this study were to review the harmful effects of maternal smoking during pregnancy on fetal and child development, to discuss if maternal smoking should be criminalized as a form of child abuse, and to explore advocating for fetal rights. Methods: A variety of published literature and legal documents including the Korean constitution, criminal laws, and children's welfare laws were reviewed and critically analyzed. Results: Women who smoke during pregnancy are more likely to experience abortion related to placental dysfunction. Their unborn risk premature birth, fetal growth restriction, low birth weight, neurobehavioral disturbances, and/or other complications and newborn babies are also at risk for complications. The advocates for fetal rights can assert that maternal smoking should be regarded as a crime. Conclusion: Findings show that maternal smoking during pregnancy is a major risk factor for many adverse pregnancy outcomes. Effective strategies and health policies for smoking cessation during pregnancy are required to protect pregnant women and their babies.
This study aims to suggest basic data for the production of hats for aged women. The subjects were 151 females who are 60 years old or above and live in Busan. Their hat-wearing reality was inquired and their head parts were measured, which led to the following conclusion: 1. Results of Hat-Wearing Reality Inquiry 64.9% answered they are unsatisfied with the size system of the available hats at present, implying the necessity for improving the current dimension system. 92.7% responded hat dimensions need to be subdivided, while 97.4% were for the necessity of hat size system. 74.8% expressed their will to buy ordered hats because they can find the hats of right sizes and designs. 2. Results of Head-Part Measurement Experiments According to head-part measurement, head circumference A was 53.26cm, head circumference B 54.19cm, and head circumference C 57.69cm on the average. Cluster analysis revealed three types. Type 1 (24%) with small head length and circumference is the smallest head with a wide upper part. Type 2 (33%) has long head height, short bitragion arc A, and thick head breadth. Type 3 (43%), owing to big head circumference and length as well as high values in vertical items. Considering head circumference B (HCB) and bitragion arc A (BAA), a new hat size system of 3 sizes (HCB: BAA) was chosen: S (52cm: 29cm), M (53-55cm: 30cm), and L (56-57cm: 31cm).
The purpose of the present study was to analyze the acceptance level of forecasted information of casual wear in tate 1990s in Korea and the way of utilizing fashion trends information by casual wear industries. The Present study was implemented by content analysis and descriptive survey using questionnaire and interview. Trends information in fashion journals published by fashion institute and articles in daily newspapers were analyzed in terms of fashion image, color, fabric, and silhouette. The data collected from questionnaire and interview with 113 fashion specialists were analyzed through frequency, percentage. The results indicated that among the forecasted information regarding fashion image, romantic and feminine images showed a high level of acceptance to national brand women's casual wear in the late 1990s, while mannish image showed a low level of acceptance. For men's casual wear in the same time period, androgynous trends appeared most frequently, not only in forecasted information, but also in actual trend. it was forecasted that yellow, white, and gray would be in trend and those colors appeared frequently in actual trend. On the other hand pastel tone appeared much more frequently than forecasted. Natural, thin - transparent (S/S) and stretch fabrics (F/W) were in actual trend as it was forecasted. Fit and Pare (woman), and long and slim (man) silhouettes were in actual trend as if was forecasted, but barrel silhouette appeared only in forecasted information. Most of the information forecasting fashion trends for next season were applied to the product planning of the season, right after the information comes out.
The purpose of this research were to evaluate the overall capacity of activity in hemiplegic patients caused by stroke, to learn the relationship of the overall capacity of activity with 8 out of 9 subtest of the Motor Assessment Scale (MAS) excluding general tonus subtest, and to use in creation of more efficient rehabilitation program by using Motor Assessment Scale (MAS). Twenty-four stroke patients (14 men and 10 women) were the subjects in this study. Their average age was 59.5 and they received average of 17.88 month of therapy. Collected data analysis was completed by using Statistic Analysis System (SAS). The results were as follows: 1) There was no difference in capacity of activity between right hemiplegia and left hemiplegia. 2) There was no difference in capacity of activity compared therapeutic period and age. 3) In comparing the relationship of the each subtest with the overall capacity of activity, upper arm function showed the highest relation (pearson's r = 0.914), and balance sitting (pearson's r= 0.812) and supine to sitting overside of bed (pearson'sr = 0.746) also showed large relationship. 4) Hand movement (pearson's r = -0.45) and advanced hand activity (pearson's r = -0.401) revealed relationship of general tonus with each subtest. 5) Supine to sitting over side of bed (pearson's r = 0.74), balanced sitting(pearson's r = 0.523), and sitting to standing (pearson's r = 0.723) showed large relationship with walking.

The purpose of this study was to analyze the degree of depression, cognitive function, communication ability, and the quantitative electroencephalogram (EEG) in elderly individuals with hearing loss and to investigate their inter-relationship. Hearing-impaired elderly participants, aged 60 years or older (37 men and 26 women) who visited the S Hearing Rehabilitation Center in Y City from June 20, 2020, to September 3, 2020, participated voluntarily after a recruitment announcement. The participants' overall characteristics, depression, and cognitive functions were evaluated with a structured questionnaire. The Word Recognition Score (WRS) was evaluated with an audiometer using the Korean Standard Monosyllabic Word Lists for Adults (KS-MWL-A). The quantitative EEG was measured with dry electrodes using a 2-channel EEG on the frontal lobes Fp1 and Fp2. The results are summarized as follows: Communication ability showed a positive correlation with the left-right symmetry of the frontal lobes (**p<.01) and a negative correlation with right-brain mental distraction and stress (*p<.05). In the difference WRS test for each group, the left-right symmetry of the frontal lobes (**p<.01) showed the greatest correlation with communication ability. Our results suggest that the left-right symmetry of the frontal lobes can be a biomarker indicative of the communication ability of older people with hearing impairments.
