쳔연가스 연료조성이 엔진 연소특성에 미치는 영향 (Effects of Natural Gas Composition on Combustion Characteristics in a Gas Engine)

  • Natural gas is an attractive fuel in view of environment benefits due to its flow carbon-to-hydrogen ratio. However, its compositions and properties are varied depending upon production regional groups. Therefore, study on the combustion characteristics of natural gas engines with a variety of compositions has been demanded for the efficient application of gas engines. This study aims to investigate the effects of gas composition on engine combustion characteristics. It was found that , by controlling an engine with fixed fuel nozzle area, power and heat release were subject to Wobbe Index. And at fixed excess air ratios, power and heat release were subject to low heating value of unit mixture . In addition, in case of constant nozzle area, combustion duration was found to be inversely proportional to CP(Combustion Potential), and the condition of fixed excess air ratios showed no change in combustion duration, regardless of CP.

  • In this study, an investigation into the gas interchangeability and combustion characteristics of natural gas with various compositions was performed. In order to suggest the appropriateness of gas interchangeability using the specific gravity(SG) and the Wobbe index(WI) values, combustion characteristics, which include incomplete combustion and flame lifting, were measured and observed for the upper and lower limits using the gas-oven as a domestic partial-premixed type appliance and the condensing boiler as a domestic premixed type appliance.

Effects of Gas Composition on the Performance and Emissions of Compressed Natural Gas Engines

  • Natural gas is considered to be a promising alternative fuel for passenger cars, truck transportation and stationary engines providing positive effects both on the environment and energy security. However, since the composition of natural gas fuel varies with location, climate and other factors, it is anticipated that such changes in fuel properties will affect emission characteristics and performance of CNG (Compressed Natural Gas) engines. The purpose of the present study is to investigate the effects of the difference in gas composition on the engine performance and emission characteristics. The results show that THC (Total Hydrocarbon) decreases with increasing Wl (Wobbe Index) and MCP (Maximum Combustion Potential). On the other hand, it is observed that NOx slightly increases as Wl and MCP increase. The TLHV (Total Lower Heating Value of Intake) is proposed in this study as a potential index for compatibility of gas fuels in a CNG engine. There is a variation in power up to 20% depending on the composition of gas when the A/F ratio and spark timing are flexed for a specific gas fuel.

산지별 천연가스들의 열 물성치 및 연소 정보 검토 (Study on the Thermodynamic Properties and Combustion Information of Natural Gases from Various Producing Districts)

  • The diversification of import districts of natural gas is trying to prepare an increase in the demand and price. The interchangeability of natural gases should be examined prior to supply to gas appliances, although compositional differences among natural gases are not large. The object of this study is to investigate numerically the thermodynamic and transport properties as well as information on combustion of 6 natural gases. Comparing the properties of BOG1 with those of standard gas, the maximum differences of heating value, Wobbe index, air-fuel ratio, and specific heat are 10%, 4%, 10% and 5.54%, respectively. That is, the BOG1 is required careful application. However, all gases except for BOG1 show the similar properties with standard gas. Finally, the combustion information such as flame temperature and burning velocity are examined. These results will provide the useful information related to the interchangeability of various natural gases in practical combustion appliances.

LFG 활용을 위한 기초 연소특성 검토 (An Investigation of the Fundamental Combustion Characteristics for the Utilization of LFG)

  • Fundamental combustion characteristics, such as the combustion potential, burning velocity and flame stability, for the practical utilization of LFG(Landfill gas) and LFG-blended fuels were experimentally investigated. The combustion potentials(CP) of LFG-blended fuels calculated from the previously suggested formulae were compared with burning velocities obtained by present experiments. The results showed that the previous formulae fur CP of LFG-blended fuels were not agreed with the experimental burning velocity, and these formulae should be revised. To provide an useful information needed to design the combustion devices, a triangular diagram was suggested for the maximum burning velocity of the mixture of CH$_4$, LPG and LFG. From the investigation of the burning velocity and the flame stability in a practical combustor, it was noted that the LFG-blended fuels, of which heating values or Wobbe indices were adjusted to that of natural gas, could be used as an alternative fuel of natural gas.

등가가스를 이용한 부분예혼합 가스기기의 호환성 판정법 (Estimation Method of the Interchangeability Using Equivalent Gases in a Partial Premixed Gas Appliance)

  • 본 연구는 등가가스를 이용하여 다양한 조성의 천연가스에 대한 부분예혼합 가스기기의 호환성 판정법을 실험을 통하여 검토 제시하였다. 본 판정법을 위해, 가정용 가스레인지를 이용 등가가스와 천연가스의 화염을 비교 하였으며, 화염의 부상 및 불완전연소에 대해 측정을 하여 KS 규격과 비교하였다. 그 결과, 등가가스와 천연가스의 화염은 화염길이, 화염색, 화염모양 등의 차이가 거의 없었다. 또한 화염의 부상 발생은 웨버지수 51 MJ/$m^3$ 이상에서 안정함을 보였으며, 불완전 연소지수의 경우, 웨버지수 56.3 MJ/$m^3$에서 CO 농도가 95~100 ppm 정도를 보여주었다. 결과적으로 천연가스에 대한 화염의 부상과 불완전연소에 대해 호환 범위를 웨버지수 51~56.3 MJ/$m^3$로 제안하였으며, 이 범위 내의 천연가스는 국내 가정용 부분예혼합 가스기기에 대해 호환 가능하다는 의미이다.

13A 가스기기 새 가스호환성 판정법 (New Method for Estimating Gas Interchangeability for 13A Gas Appliances)

  • 본 연구에서는 13A 가스기기의 새 가스호환성 판정법을 개발하고자 하였다. 호환성 판정법 개발의 원칙은 세 가지로서, 1) 웨버지수 외에 가스조성 영향을 대표할 수 있는 인자의 도출, 2) 우리나라 가정과 업소에 보급된 모든 종류의 제작사별 가스기기(예혼합 가스기기 포함) 시험, 3) 가능한 한 간단한 판정법 개발이다. 이러한 원칙하에 30대의 대표성 있는 가스기기에 대하여 가스호환성 실험을 하였고 그 결과 웨버지수-비중 형식의 간단한 2차원 판정법(도표)을 개발하였다. 본 호환성 판정법은, 기존 호환성 판정법과 달리 화염안정 영역이 좁은 예혼합 가스기기를 포함하며, 이로 인해 기존 호환성 판정법보다 가스호환성 영역이 좁은 것으로 나타났다.

새 가스그룹의 가스기기 시험가스 (Test Gases for Gas Burning Appliances of New Gas Group)

  • 새 가스그룹의 가스기기 호환성 시험가스 결정을 위해 현 13A 가스그룹의 시험가스와 13A 가스기기의 가스호환성(효율 포함) 관계를 실험적으로 규명하였다. 이 시험결과로부터 새 가스그룹의 불완전 연소 및 화염 부상 한계 가스는 각각 새 가스그룹의 웨버지수 상한보다 2 % 크고, 하한 보다는 1 % 작은 값이 적정함을 알 수 있었다. 또한 효율 시험용 R 가스의 조성은 메탄 96 mol %와 프로판 4 mol %가 가장 적정하며, 일반 효율 시험시에는 공급 천연가스도 R가스로 사용될 수 있음을 확인하였다. 그리고 역화 한계 가스 내 수소 농도는 기존 30 vol %에서 EN437과 같이 23 vol %로 낮출 수 있는 것으로 분석되었다.

  • Since 1st July 2012, the our Goverment and KOGAS have been adopting a calorific value range system from the standard calorific value system. Domestic power plant companies and KOGAS have asked GT manufacture about the effects of the reduction of the calorific value. We received GT manufacture's answer to the question on April 12.2011. Gas components of some GT models were limited to no more than 9% of the C2+ content. Now some of GTs remain under debating whether effects on variation of gas heating or not.

  • In order to study the gas interchangeability, a series of tests and analysis were conducted regarding to natural gas and gas mixture. Natural gas was selected as a reference and NG-LPG/Air mixture as a substitute gas. The major interest was placed on the determination of interchangeability limits for different mixing conditions. The parameters of Wobbe Index and Combustion Potential were employed in estimating the gas interchangeability, The limits obtained by analysis(AGA, WEAVER, KNOY, GILB) were compared with experimental results. The results estimated showed that the mixing limits of LPG/Air in proper conditions were found to vary with analysis and AGA is considered to be the most appropriate one.
