  • Purpose : This study was to evaluate gait velocity and muscle activity on 3 different gait conditions in elderly women. Methods : There were one group was 20's generation(n=12), and the other group was over 60's generation (n=12). The velocity of gait was analysed for using the Footscan system, EMG(MP150) for muscle activity. Subjects were measured 3 gait condition(normal, obstacle-10cm, dual obstacle-10cm. Measured values were used by the independent t-test for analysing between groups, and repeated measurement of ANOVA for analysing within group. Results : The results were as follow: velocity and acticities of lower 4 muscles were significantly differences in experimental group. In control group, there were not significantly differences. Contrast-groups were significantly differences of velocity(obstacle, dual obstacle), muscle activities(soleus-dual obstacle, hamstring-all). Conclusion : These results indicate that elderly people are reduced gait ability in dual task, and obstacle gait. So Elderly women need to training obstacle/dual gait for preventing falling.

  • Genomic DNAs were extracted from the muscle of twenty-two specimens of two shortnecked clam, Ruditapes phifippinarum populations collected in Anmyeondo and Seocheon. Genetic differences within and between populations were analysed by random amplified polymorphic DNAs-polymerase chain reaction (RAPD-PCR) using twenty arbitrary decamer primers. Out of 20 primers, 6 generated a total of 1,111 major and minor RAPD bands from individuals of two sites, producing approximately 4.2 average polymorphic bands per primer in individuals from Anmyeondo and ranging in size from less than 50 to larger than 1,500 base pairs (bp). The electrophoretic analysis of RAPD products amplified showed moderate levels of similarity among the different individuals in Seo-cheon population. The average bandsharing values (BS value) of the samples within population from Anmyeondo ranged from 0.155 to 0.684, whereas it was 0.143∼0.782 within population from Seocheon. The average BS value between individuals No. 13 and No. 14 from Seocheon was 0.782 which was higher than that of those from Anmyeondo. The single linkage dendrogram resulted from three primers (OPA-08, -09 and -20), indicating six genetic groupings composed of group 1 (No.4, 8 and 10), group 2 (No. 18), group 3 (No.2, 5 and 7), group 4 (No. 1, 3, 6, 9, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15 and 17), group 5 (16, 19 and 20) and group 6 (No. 21 and 22). In the Seocheon population, the individual No. 18 clustered distinctly from the others of this population. The observed genetic distance between the two populations from Anmyeondo and Seocheon was more than 0.209 (0.247 and 0.275). The shortest genetic distance (0.094) displaying significant molecular differences was between individuals No. 13 and No. 14. Especially, the genetic distance between individuals No. 22 and the remnants among individuals in two geographical populations was highest (0.275). This result illustrated that individual No.22 is distinct from other individuals within two shortnecked populations. The different geographical features of two sites may have caused the genetic diversity in two shortnecked clam populations.

  • This study aims to examine the effects of taping of the ankle joint on the static and dynamic balance and gait ability of stroke patients. Twenty-six stroke patients receiving physical therapy at a hospital located in Gyeonggi-do were divided equally into a group that had taping in physical therapy and an ordinary physical therapy group. They exercised for 30 minutes each, 3 times per week for 8 weeks from June to August 2011. Romberg's eye open and eye closed tests, limits of stability(LOS), forward and back test, timed up and go test(TUG) and 10-meter gait velocity test were performed to evaluate static balance, dynamic balance, and gait ability, respectively, prior to and 8 weeks after the intervention. Differences within each group in relation to the lapse of time were compared by a paired t-test. Differences between the two groups were compared by an independent t-test. Regarding comparison of differences within each group, all tests resulted in significant changes in both groups after the intervention (p<.05). Comparison of differences between the two groups showed that taping in the physical therapy group had significantly better test results than the ordinary physical therapy group in all measured items(p<.05). The after effects of ankle taping on stroke patients are more efficient and effective than ordinary physical therapy alone in improving balance and gait ability.

  • The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of muscle fatigue by neuromuscular electrical stimulation(NMES). Using Biodex System 3PRO(Biodex Medical Systems Inc, USA), experiment was conducted as to the normal group(I) composed of fifteen adults and the patient group(II) composed of fifteen patients with spastic hemiplegia. As to each group, maximal tolerated intensity(MTI) and maximal tolerated isometric contraction(MTIC) in electric currents yielded by low rate(20 pps) and high rate(100 pps) neuromuscular electrical stimulation and the aspects of decrease and restoration of the isometric contraction were examined, and their strength decrement index(SDI) and strength recovery index(SRI) were also calculated. 1. As for MTI in NMES, the MTI of the group II was higher than that of the group I in both low rate and high rate NMES. In comparison within group, MTI of group II was significantly higher in high rate NMES rather than in low rate NMES(p<0.05). 2. In comparison of MTIC between groups, the group I showed higher in both low rate and high rate NMES. In comparison within group, MTIC of group II was significantly higher in high rate NMES rather than in low rate NMES(p<0.01). 3. As for SDI, both groups showed highest SDI in high rate NMES, but no significant differences could be observed. 4. As for SRI, both groups showed significantly low SRI in low rate NMES(p<0.01, p<0.05), and comparison between groups showed no significant differences could be observed. These result lead us to the conclusion that muscle fatigue was influenced by frequency, high rate NMES was lower at SDI and higher at SRI on compare to low rate NMES, therefor, a further studies concerning electrical stimulation should consider differences each frequency in response to treatment.

  • Purpose: This study examined the effects of horse riding simulator exercise on the thickness changes in the transverse abdominis in normal adults. Methods: Forty-five healthy adults were recruited and randomized to a horseback riding simulation exercise group (n=15), a sling exercise group (n=15), and a trunk stabilization exercise group (n=15). A horseback riding simulator offers the indoor experience of horseback riding and mimics the rhythmic movement of horseback riding, thereby provided a virtual environment, such as riding a real horse on the front screen. The velocity of the horse riding simulator exercise was regulated within the subject's ability to control the exercise on the horse riding simulator. A sling exercise group performed sling exercise under the inspection of the experimenter. In the trunk stabilization exercise group, the subjects were instructed to perform the exercise accurately and pause the session when pain occurred during the intervention. The subjects in each group carried out the interventions three times per week for six weeks. The thickness of the transverse abdominis was measured using a pressure biofeedback unit and the ultrasound. Results: Significant differences in the thickness of transverse abdominis within the groups were observed between before and after the interventions. On the other hand, there were no differences in the parameters among the groups. Conclusion: Horse riding simulator exercise can be an alternative to trunk stabilization exercise by increasing the thickness of the transverse abdominis in healthy adults.

  • J시 소재 K여자고등학교 1학년 중에서 %fat이 30% 이상인 24명을 유의추출법에 의해 운동그룹 A (8명), B (8명) 그룹과 통제그룹(8명)으로 3그룹으로 구분하여 Borg의 주관적운동강도를 이용, A그룹은 RPE 15-17 (hard-very hard; 힘듦-매우 힘듦)${\times}$3 sets, B그룹은 RPE 11-13 (fairly light-somewhat hard; 알맞음-약간 힘듦)${\times}$3 sets로 설정하여 step aerobics (step box: 길이 68 cm, 폭 28 cm, 높이 15 cm, 무게 450 g)를 1일 50-60분간, 주3회(월, 수, 금)로 총 8주간 실시하였다.

  • Purpose: This study examined the effects of a spiral elastic band for the walking function on patients with chronic stroke. Methods: Twenty one chronic stroke patients were recruited and divided randomly into the experimental group and control group. Both groups performed mat exercises and gait training three times a week for four weeks, and gait training was applied to the experimental group with additional spinal elastic bands. Results: The results of this research were as follows. The 10MWT measurements showed that the velocities within and between the groups decreased significantly, and the results of TUG showed significant decreases in velocities after the interventions in both the control group and experimental group. On the other hand, there were no significant differences between the control and experimental group. The FRT measurements showed significantly increased stride lengths within and between the groups. The measurements of the stride length, stride velocity, cadence, and step length showed significant improvement within the groups, but there was no significant difference between the groups. The measurement of stance showed that the non-paralytic patients had a significant increase in the rates within the groups and a significant difference was observed between the groups. Conclusion: Spiral elastic bands are an effective intervention method for rehabilitation programs to enhance the walking function in the clinical field. A treatment needs to be developed for patients with walking problems due to various disorders by investigating the action mechanism of spiral elastic bands.
