  • This paper proposes an optical wireless transfer agent method which realizes the continuous and swift data transfer of optical wireless terminals in optical wireless networks. The unguided wireless channel generally shows frequent link disconnections and propagation delays due to weak wireless links. Specially speaking, optical wireless channels have more vulnerable links and roaming propagation delays relative to the weakness of the previous RF channels due to their low signal connectivity and small geographic coverage. Conventional optical wireless network protocols did not consider any fault models about physical link faults. Consequently, they have shown data transfer inefficiency for both data link control and physical wireless link control. To overcome these optical wireless environmental problems, this paper suggests a new wireless access point (or base station) agent system, which provides wireless or mobile clients with previous link layer protocols compensated.

  • Assuming that a wireless link is mostly used at the network edge and the wireless NIC driver keeps monitoring the error rate of its link, this paper proposes an enhanced TCP congestion control, TCP-L (TCP Link-Aware). TCP-L predicts true congestion losses occurred inside the wired link area by utilizing the wireless link error rate. As a result, it mitigates performance degradation caused from TCP congestion control actions when segments losses occur in a wireless link. Experimental results show that TCP-L provides better performance and fairness in lossy wireless links than existing TCP congestion control schemes. Our approach utilizing the characteristic of the link at TCP could be well adapted to new wireless environments such as Cognitive Radio and ACK-less IEEE 802.11, where a frame may be delivered with a very long delay or lost in the link.

  • Using a sub-terahertz (sub-THz) wave generated using a photonics-based technology, a high-speed wireless link operating at up to 10 Gbps is designed and demonstrated for realization of seamless connectivity between wireless and wired networks. The sub-THz region is focused upon because of the possibility to obtain sufficient bandwidth without interference with the allocated RF bands. To verify the high-speed wireless link, such dynamic characteristics as the eye diagrams and bit error rate (BER) are measured at up to 10 Gbps for non-return-to-zero pseudorandom binary sequence $2^{31}-1$ data. From the measurement results, a receiver sensitivity of -23.5 dBm at $BER=10^{-12}$ is observed without any error corrections when the link distance between the transmitter and receiver is 3 m. Consequently, we hope that our design and experiment results will be helpful in implementing a high-speed wireless link using a sub-THz wave.

  • Multi-hop wireless networks has become common phenomenon according to a development of wireless communications and an increase of usage of wireless link. ARQ is one of the common protocols in link layer and can improve a link performance recovering packet loss in wireless link. However, ARQ cannot sufficient to assure a end-to-end performance because ARQ only manages the ARQ's own link. In this paper, we propose a new retransmission persistence for ARQ in multi-hop wireless network to satisfy the end-to-end performance. The proposed scheme can aware a bottleneck link according to the exchange of link information between ARQs and can support the end-to-end performance by managing a retransmission persistence. OPNET simulator is used to evaluate the performance of the proposed scheme and results show that proposed scheme can improve the end-to-end performance with satisfying a requirement of entire wireless section.

  • Due to the recent development of mobile wireless telecommunication, RRHs(Remote Radio Heads) are widely being utilized to expand the cell coverage. Wire-link, an existing connection between DU(Digital Unit) and RRH through fiber cables, is considered to have limitations in relation to cost for a wide range of applications. This paper focuses on replacing the wire-link by wireless transmission using millimeter-wave, and implementing cellular network system through RRH from a remote location. After an influence element analysis on millimeter-wave wireless link transmissions, a comparative analysis between wireless link and an existing fiber link method will be made by utilizing currently commercialized LTE(Long Term Evolution), to prove the compatibility of millimeter-wave wireless link RRH method in replacing fiber link method without a significant decline in data transmission performance.

  • The various challenges to realize a fixed wireless ATM network are discussed and some solutions for these challenges are presented. In this paper, the capacity allocation in wireless ATM, the wireless link impact on ATM traffic, and the optimum utilization of the wireless network resonrces for a line of sight (LOS) winless ATM link are studied. An adaptive MQAM modulator is introduced to provide a suitable solution to these issues. The modulator level is adjusted using a unique QoS metric in a wireless network. The metric, termed modified effective bandwidth, takes into account the bandwidth demand, QoS requirements, and outage conditions of the wireless ATM link. A performance study using VBR MPEG-l video traffic in a fixed wireless channel (Ricean channel) demonstrates the advantages of the proposed system.

  • Wireless sensor networks are installed in various environments and collect sensing data through wireless links. The quality of a wireless link may be unstable due to environment causes and hardware performance in wireless sensor networks. Since the change of the link quality may cause data loss, sensor nodes need to adaptively estimate the change of the link quality. Also, the routing protocol should deal with this situation. In this paper, the adaptive link quality estimation and routing scheme in the large-scale wireless sensor networks are proposed. When the quality of a link is unstable, sensor nodes agilely estimate the quality of links, and the new route is selected. When quality of a link is stable, the link quality is occasionally estimated so that the energy consumption is reduced. Moreover, sensor nodes exchange less beacons in order to reduce an overhead in dense networks. In the case of sparse network, the sensor nodes exchange more beacons for finding a better route. We prove that the proposed scheme can improve the energy efficiency and reliability.

  • Millimeter wave communication is one of the main disruptive technologies in upcoming 5G mobile networks. One of the first candidate applications, which will be commercially ready by 2020, is wireless backhaul links or wireless last mile communication. This paper provides an analysis of this use-case from radio engineering and implementation perspectives. Furthermore, preliminary experimental results are shown for a proof-of-concept wireless backhaul solution developed within the EU-KR 5GCHAMPION project, which will be showcased during the 2018 Winter Olympic Games in Korea. In this paper, we verify system level calculations and a theoretical link budget analysis with conductive and radiated over-the-air measurements. The results indicate that the implemented radio solution is able to achieve the target key performance indicator, namely, a 2.5 Gbps data rate on average, over a range of up to 200 m.

  • As the number of Mobile IP users is expected to grow, the signaling overhead associated with mobility management in the wireless Internet is bound to grow. And since the wireless link has far less bandwidth resources and limited scalability compared to the wired network link, the signaling overhead associated with mobility management has a severe effect on the wireless link. In this paper, we propose IP-Grouping algorithm that can greatly reduce the signaling cost in the wireless link as Access Routers(ARs) with a large rate of handoff are grouped into a Group Zone. Based on the numerical analysis and simulation, we show that the wireless signaling cost in the IP-Grouping is much lower than that of the Hierarchical Mobile IPv6 under various condition.
