Efficiency evaluation and characteristics of receiver coil under different inserted resonance coils in wireless power charging system for MAGLEV

  • As the wireless power transfer (WPT) technology based on strongly resonance coupled method realizes large power charging without any wires through the air, there are advantages compared with the wired counterparts, such as convenient, safety and fearless transmission of power. From this reason, the WPT systems have started to be applied to the wireless charging for various power applications such as train, underwater ship, electric vehicle. This study aims for the effect and characteristics of different inserted resonance coil between Tx and Rx coils for charging system of superconducting magnetic levitation (MAGLEV) train. The transfer efficiency and effect are evaluated with helix type, rectangular type copper resonance coil, and HTS resonance coil under bulb and HTS magnet load, respectively. The input power is adapted with radio frequency (RF) power of 370 kHz below 500 W.

  • The importance of electric vehicles is gradually increasing due to the recent depletion of fossil fuels. In order to use an electric vehicle, the battery built into the vehicle must be frequently charged. Electric vehicles has very good performance in terms of noise and vibration. However, due to the limitations of the battery, the mileage is considerably shorter than that of an internal combustion engine vehicle once it is charged, and the battery charging time is relatively long compared to the refueling time. There are two types of charging methods for electric vehicle batteries: plug-in and wireless charging. In this paper, we introduced the wireless charging technology for electric vehicles and the current state of technology development and standards in major countries.

  • Industrial machines have constraints on movement due to its wire for power supply. Recently, the research on wireless power supply for industrial machine which is required to move freely is receiving a lot of attention. In this paper, we suggest a magnetic induction system which can charge a equipment's battery with wireless at a close range. The system was designed to operate at 13.56 MHz and a distance of 20~30 mm between the transmitting and the receiving power module. From experiment, it was found that it takes about 135 minutes for charging the battery with about 15 V using the proposed system.

  • Wireless power transfer (WPT) technology has the advantages of intelligence and facilitation. This paper designs a WPT system applied to battery charging and provides a strategy which switches from the constant current (CC) charging mode to constant voltage (CV) charging mode. The LCL-LCL topology is used to realize the CC output, while the LCL-S (series compensation) topology is used to realize the CV output. The main factor affecting the output characteristics is extracted by analyzing the two topologies above. Based on the main factor, this paper puts forward a modified way to design the system. In addition, on-line monitors for the battery and switches are placed at receiving side, which avoids the need for introducing an information interaction module into the system. Therefore, the complexity of the controlling system is reduced. Finally, simulation and experimental analyses are carried out to verify the correctness of the compound topologies.

  • In this paper, the design of PRT vehicle power supply system is discussed. Since there is no power feeding line facilities in PRT system under development, the PRT vehicle must have its own energy storage device on board. For the energy storage device, ultra-capacitor bank is applied due to its fast charging capability and long life time. Charging the Ultra-capacitor bank is performed by wireless inductive power transfer system. The capacitor bank is charged up in less than 10 seconds when the vehicle is traveling by passenger stations. In this paper the design of the ultra-capacitor bank and the wireless inductive power transfer system for the PRT vehicle are discussed. Tests are conducted for the both system and the result shows the efficiency of the wireless inductive power transfer system is higher than 80%.

  • This paper presented the design of wireless power transfer (WPT) system using electromagnetic induction techniques and analysed WPT efficiency. Also, we presented the optimum coil condition by measuring the efficiency variation according to some receiving coil parameter changes. Voltage change is measured by receiving coil position for the designed transmitting and receiving circuit. Voltage change according to inductance variation at the same position and charging time are compared at the same environment by using a developed application program to realize an optimum WPT system. Developed wireless power transfer system using electromagnetic induction techniques uses 125 kHz. It takes 16 minutes by using wired charger, and 23 minutes by using wireless charger for charging from 50% to 60% charging status.

  • In this paper, we introduce an electric vehicle charging system using power line communication and propose a method to correct the error by applying a deep learning algorithm when an error occurs in the control signal of an electric vehicle charging system using power line communication. The error detection and correction of the control signal can be solved through the conventional error correcting code schemes, but the error is detected and corrected more efficiently by using the deep learning based error correcting code scheme. Therefore, we introduce deep learning based error correction code scheme and apply this scheme to electric vehicle charging system using power line communication. we proceed simulation and confirm performance with bit error rate. we judge whether the deep learning based error correction code scheme is more effective than the conventional schemes.

  • The wireless power transfer (WPT) charging system for AGV depends highly on the coupling conditions due to air gap variation. To attain stable output power with high transfer efficiency under various coupling conditions, a single-stage, DC-DC converter that operates with robustness to changes in air gaps is proposed for the WPT system. The proposed converter is capable of soft switching under the set input voltage (Vin: 380 VDC), load conditions (0-1 kW), and air gap changes (30-70 mm). In addition, a wide output voltage range (Vo: 39-54 VDC) can be controlled by varying the link voltage due to the phase control at a fixed switching frequency. Experimental results are verified using a prototype of a 1 kW wireless power charging system.

  • The electrical safety and efficiency is the most important thing of the electric vehicle charging system. The prior system is contact charging system that is contacted directly by human. So, it has riskiness such as electric shock in the case of poor insulation or contact problems. To solve these safety issues and the convenience problems, a wireless power transmission system has been developed and is currently in trial operation. However, because high frequency is used in wireless power transmission system instead of commercial frequency, we need to apply protection measures concerning electric shock and equipment protection. Also, it should be accompanied by measuring efficiency for the effective operation of the wireless power transmission system. Therefore, we structured monitoring system in trial operation area of wireless power transmission system and applied decision algorithm for protection of human and equipment and economic operation of it.

  • As wireless power transfer (WPT) technology using strongly coupled electromagnetic resonators is a recently explored technique to realize the large power delivery and storage without any cable or wire, this technique is required for diffusion of electric vehicles (EVs) since it makes possible a convenient charging system. Typically, since the normal conducting coils are used as a transmitting coil in the CPT system, there is limited to deliver the large power promptly in the contactless EV charging system. From this reason, we proposed the combination CPT technology with HTS transmitting antenna, In this study, we examined the improvement of transmission efficiency and properties for HTS and copper antennas, respectively, at 30 cm distance. Thus, we obtained improved transfer efficiency with HTS antenna over 10% compared with copper antenna
