Intelligent Hexapod Mobile Robot using Image Processing and Sensor Fusion (영상처리와 센서융합을 활용한 지능형 6족 이동 로봇)

  • A intelligent mobile hexapod robot with various types of sensors and wireless camera is introduced. We show this mobile robot can detect objects well by combining the results of active sensors and image processing algorithm. First, to detect objects, active sensors such as infrared rays sensors and supersonic waves sensors are employed together and calculates the distance in real time between the object and the robot using sensor's output. The difference between the measured value and calculated value is less than 5%. This paper suggests effective visual detecting system for moving objects with specified color and motion information. The proposed method includes the object extraction and definition process which uses color transformation and AWUPC computation to decide the existence of moving object. We add weighing values to each results from sensors and the camera. Final results are combined to only one value which represents the probability of an object in the limited distance. Sensor fusion technique improves the detection rate at least 7% higher than the technique using individual sensor.

  • We implemented an application system which is able to verify visitor identification for remote bundle control based on OSGi and web camera control using embedded linux system. This system are designed open Oscar framework by porting java on the embedded linux system and implemented web camera system in local area networks. Also This system can verify information of visitor from receiving the data of RFID reader and designed the wireless internet system in home. Basically, in this paper we expect that home network system development and the period of application service development are reduced with integrated service provision based on OSGi.

  • In this paper, we implemented the HearCAM platform with Raspberry PI B+ model which is an open source platform. Raspberry PI B+ model consists of dual step-down (buck) power supply with polarity protection circuit and hot-swap protection, Broadcom SoC BCM2835 running at 700MHz, 512MB RAM solered on top of the Broadcom chip, and PI camera serial connector. In this paper, we used the Google speech recognition engine for recognizing the voice characteristics, and implemented the pattern matching with OpenCV software, and extended the functionality of speech ability with SVOX TTS(Text-to-speech) as the matching result talking to the microphone of users. And therefore we implemented the functions of the HearCAM for identifying the voice and pattern characteristics of target image scanning with PI camera with gathering the temperature sensor data under IoT environment. we implemented the speech recognition, pattern matching, and temperature sensor data logging with Wi-Fi wireless communication. And then we directly designed and made the shape of HearCAM with 3D printing technology.

  • This study was performed to improve the conventional $DIFOTI^{TM}$ system(EOS Inc., USA) by developing the prototype of DIFOTI system which consists of light emitting diode(LED) and digital camera. The images of enamel surfaces treated under Carbopol 907 de-mineralizing solution were taken daily during 7 days of experimental periods by both DIFOTI systems. The results of comparative analyses of obtained images can be summarized as follows: 1. Trans-illumination indices of images taken from sample enamel surfaces were decreased with time in both systems. 2. The difference of intensity of luminance between sound and de-mineralized enamel surface in prototype DIFOTI system was shown to be relatively smaller than conventional $DIFOTI^{TM}$ system. The application of LED light source in prototype DIFOTI system could possibly reduce the amount of current consumption and that could ultimately lead us to the successful development of wireless model with battery. The innovative development of digital camera is undoubtedly expected to create much clearer image despite of wireless transfer. LED and digital camera can be combined into a smaller size but a very important task of improving image manager and analyzing program into a simpler and easier one to manipulate has to be solved.

  • Security and monitoring system has many applications and commonly used for detection, warning, alarm, etc. As the networking technology advances, user requirements are getting higher. An intelligent and cooperative surveillance system is proposed to meet current user demands and improve the performance. This paper focuses on the implementation issue for the embedded intelligent surveillance system. To cover wide area cooperative function is implemented and connected by wireless sensor network technology. Also to improve the performance lots of sensors are employed into the surveillance system to reduce the error but improve the detection probability. The proposed surveillance system is composed of vision sensor (camera), mic array sensor, PIR sensor, etc. Between the sensors, data is transferred by IEEE 802.11s or Zigbee protocol. We deployed a private network for the sensors and multiple gateways for better data throughput. The developed system is targeted to the traffic accident detection and alarm. However, its application can be easily changed to others by just changing software algorithm in a DSP chip.

  • This paper proposes a common platform for an internet-based mobile robot and its operator terminal. The common platform can reduce the cost and time to develop an internet-based robot and its operator terminal. The robot performs the role of a server and its terminal a client. One operator can use this terminal to make a command and this command can be sent to the robot through a wireless network. According to given commands, the robot moves a point and sends an image by using a camera or desired information by using other sensors. The information sent from the robot can help an operator to control the robot. The mobile robot consists of two modules, main module and motion module. Main module can exchange information with the operator terminal, process information, and send a command to motion module. Each application program for one internet-based mobile robot and its operator terminal will be developed to show that the same platform can be used for them. Also, it will be shown that the robot can be controlled easily by using its operator terminal.

  • The Mobile Mapping System collects geographic information through mounted sensors such as a pair of CCD camera, CPS, IMU(Inertial Measurement Unit) and Odometer at regular distance or time interval. The advantage of such system is to easy identification of positions and geographic informations of mobile objects in real time. Among many wireless communication ways for real-time positions and geographic information data from the mobile mapping system to the user such as PDA, wireless modem, cellophane, and web, the web is considered to be more stabile, effect and economic than any other methods. In this paper, a study on the web-based real-time mobile mapping platform to identify the user position is presented using the real-time NovAtel BDS.

  • As the mobile marketing through the smartphone has gradually increased, the smartphone application services using the AR marker, QR codes and augmented reality have attracted much attention. Furthermore the outdoor advertising is migrated to LED signage, which brings the visible light wireless communication technologies to the trial for mobile marketing. In this paper we present the implementation of AR marker-based URL access application services through smartphone camera using visible-light wireless communication technologies. We analyze the performance of the implemented system in terms of connection time and success rate.

  • There are increasing demands for the transmission of high speed and non-compressed video informations. The video data usually compressed before transmission for reducing the data. And the received data uncompressed at a receiver, consequently the processing delay is unavoided. In this paper, we implement a 60 GHz band wireless transmission system for real time multimedia contents transmission, and successfully transmit the full HD class uncompressed video information at 4 Gbps with 20 m apart. Hence the non-compressed video data from a remote camera or a smart phone can be transmitted and displayed in a large screen in real time via the developed transceiver system.

  • Newly commercialized wireless capsule endoscope has many advantages compared to conventional push-type endoscopes. However, it is moved by the peristaltic waves. Therefore, it can not diagnose desired zones actively. In this paper, a locomotive mechanism for wireless capsule endoscope is proposed to increase the efficiency of endoscopy. We designed and fabricated a prototype using SMA springs and bio-mimetic clamping device. The hollow space in the prototype is allocated for further system integration of a camera module, a RF module and a battery. And the sequential control scheme is employed to improve the efficiency of its locomotion. To validate the performance of the locomotive mechanism, experiments on a silicone rubber pad and in vitro tests are carried out. The results of the experiments indicate that proposed mechanism is effective in harsh environments such as digestive organs of a human.
