PLS(Pohang Light Source) will begin the PLS-II project that has been funded by the KOREA Government in order to further upgrade the PLS which has operated since 1992. The control system of the PLS-II has distributed control architecture, with two layers of hierarchy; operator interface computer (OIC) layer and machine interface computer (MIC) layer. The OIC layer is based on SUN workstation with UNIX. A number of PC-based consoles allow to remotely operating the machine from the control room. PC-based consoles use the Linux or Windows operation system. Similar consoles in the experimental hall are used to control experiments. The MIC layer is directly interfaced to individual machine devices for low-level data acquisition and control. MIC layer is based on VMEbus standard with vxWorks real-time operating system. Executable application software modules are downloaded from host computers at the system start-up time. The MIC's and host computers are linked through Ethernet network. It should enable the use of hardware and software already developed for specific light source requirements. The core of the EPICS (Experimental Physics and Industrial Control System)[1] has been chosen as the basis for the control system software.

In order to satisfy the requirements of time reduction and cost saving for development of electronic control systems(ECU) in automotive industry, the applications of a standardized real-time operating system(RTOS) and a communication protocol to ECUs are increased. In this study, a body control module(BCM) that employs OSEK/VDX(open system and corresponding interfaces for automotive electronics/vehicle distributed executive) OS tour the RTOS and a controller area network(CAN) fur the communication protocol is designed, and the performances of the system are evaluated. The BCM controls doors, mirrors, and windows of the vehicle through the in-vehicle network. To identify all the transmitted and received control messages, a PC connected with the CAN communication protocol behaves as a CAN bus emulator. The control system based upon in-vehicle network improves the system stability and reduces the number of wiring harness. Furthermore it is easy to maintain and simple to add new features because the system is designed based on the standards of RTOS and communication protocol.
Recently the substation automation is actively researched at each country. Since the substation automation is an integrated system that consist of electrical, electronic and computer technologies, performance evaluation is very important to inspect the developed system's applicable possibility for real power system. Most studies are verified using computer simulation, because it is hard to apply them to real power systems. Therefore development of a substation simulator is necessary for the performance evaluation of many application systems such as operator aid system. This paper introduces a substation simulator. An intelligent fault diagnosis and restorative control expert system is also introduced UDP/IP is applied as a protocol for data transport between expert system and SC(station computer). As to the Graphic User Interface, C++ Language and Visual Basic is used in the Windows NT operating system together with four Pentium II systems.

Yhis paper describes a fault diagnosis simulation of the Real-Time Multiple Fault Dignosis System (RTMFDS) for forcasting faults in a system and deciding current machine state from signal information. Comparing with other diagnosis system for single fault, the system developed deals with multiple fault diagnosis, comprising two main parts. One is a remotesignal generating and transimission terminal and the other is a host system for fault diagnosis. Signal generator generate the random fault signal and the image information, and send this information to host. Host consists of various modules and agents such as Signal Processing Module(SPM) for sinal preprocessing, Performence Monotoring Module(PMM) for subsystem performance monitoring, Trigger Module(TM) for multi-triggering subsystem fault diagnosis, Subsystem Fault Diagnosis Agent(SFDA) for receiving trigger signal, formulating subsystem fault D\ulcornerB and initiating diagnosis, Fault Diagnosis Module(FDM) for simulating component fault with Hierarchical Artificial Neural Network (HANN), numerical models and Hofield network,Result Agent(RA) for receiving simulation result and sending to Treatment solver and Graphic Agent(GA). Each agent represents a separate process in UNIX operating system, information exchange and cooperation between agents was doen by IPC(Inter Process Communication : message queue, semaphore, signal, pipe). Numerical models are used to deseribe structure, function and behavior of total system, subsystems and their components. Hierarchical data structure for diagnosing the fault system is implemented by HANN. Signal generation and transmittion was performed on PC. As a host, SUN workstation with X-Windows(Motif)is used for graphic representation.
In ubiquitous environments, the real-time features are necessary to insure the QoS of the intelligent service robots. In this paper, we design and implement a real-time framework for intelligent service robots to support real-time features. The real-time framework to support real-time scheduling services is implemented on the general operating systems. We solve the problem that the scheduler of a general operating system can not support real-time features. This paper also proposes realtime scheduling services to guarantee the QoS of real-time robot applications. We implemented the proposed real-time framework on the Windows operating system and conducted some performance experiments. The experimental results show that the proposed real-time framework can improve thread response times and it has slight performance overhead of $62{\mu}s$.
Linux was developed by Linus Torvalds at University of Helsinkyi, Finland. Today Linux becomes to compete with windows operation of Microsoft. and is adopted worldwide on IBM products. The British government is viewing Linux as a desktop operating system. In Tunisia, Linux is under consideration as the governmental operating system. Even Sun Microsystems, the powerful supplier in workstation and sewer market, is working on developing ways in using Linux. is now getting further attentions on governmental level in several countries. The growing interests in adopting Linux in computer operating systems are not on a personal preference level any more. A number of companies and organizations, even some governmental administrations start to see its potential capabilities and are looking for ways for its applications. The necessity of teaching Linux in university is, therefore, imminent and should be discussed in course development without delay. The purpose of this paper is showing the things to be considered, problem analysis and some solution as grafting Linux in university education.

In the present study, we assessed the parallel computing performance of Agisoft Metashape for orthomosaic generation, which can implement aerial triangulation, generate a three-dimensional point cloud, and make an orthomosaic based on SfM (Structure from Motion) technology. Due to the nature of SfM, most of the time is spent on Align photos, which runs as a relative orientation, and Build dense cloud, which generates a three-dimensional point cloud. Metashape can parallelize the two processes by using multi-cores of CPU (Central Processing Unit) and GPU (Graphics Processing Unit). An orthomosaic was created from large UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) images by six conditions combined by three parallel methods (CPU only, GPU only, and CPU + GPU) and two operating systems (Windows and Linux). To assess the consistency of the results of the conditions, RMSE (Root Mean Square Error) of aerial triangulation was measured using ground control points which were automatically detected on the images without human intervention. The results of orthomosaic generation from 521 UAV images of 42.2 million pixels showed that the combination of CPU and GPU showed the best performance using the present system, and Linux showed better performance than Windows in all conditions. However, the RMSE values of aerial triangulation revealed a slight difference within an error range among the combinations. Therefore, Metashape seems to leave things to be desired so that the consistency is obtained regardless of parallel methods and operating systems.
Recently, various threat and security incident are occurred for unspecified individuals, and this problem increases as the rapid of information sharing through Internet. The using of Information Security System such as IDS, Firewall, VPN etc. makes this problem minimal. However, professional knowledge or skill is needed in that case, normal user can't operate the Information Security System. This paper designs and implements File Access Control Module(FACM) to use easily for normal user against malicious threats and attacks. The FACM can exclude from malicious threats and attacks based on operation system rather than detection of threats and attacks. The FACM is working not only Windows System but also Linux System, and the FACM has effect on access control, integrity and non-repudiation for a file with an access control over files on the each OS that are used by multi-user.
The Linux operating system is expanding to include desktops and servers, as well as mobile devices, automobiles and embedded devices, and is the dominant operating system category because it is freely available and open source software. However, the desktop market is dominated by Microsoft's Windows, and Apple's Mac OS is increasingly dominated by enthusiasts, but Linux's growth is stagnant. An important element to make up for this deficiency is the X Window System. Most Linux distributions still use the traditional X.org server as the X Window System, but it is heavy and slow. To replace it, a new X window system called Wayland emerged. Wayland is small and light enough to fit on an embedded or mobile device, so it can be mounted on the IoT related device as well as on the desktop. With the advent of Wayland, the change in the X window will accelerate the popularization of Linux.

Many public organizations have been adopting and operating various servers. These servers run on Windows, Unix, and Linux operating systems that generally use less than 10% of their capacity. For migrating a public organization to cloud computing, we must first virtualize the server environment. This article proposes a strategy for server virtualization that the National IT Industry Promotion Agency (NIPA) has done and describes the effects of a public organization migrating to cloud computing. The NIPA Computer Center planned an effective virtualization migration on various servers. This project of virtualization migration was conducted with the existing policy of separate x86 servers and Unix servers. There are three popular approaches to server virtualization: a virtual machine model, a paravirtual machine model, and virtualization at the operating system layer. We selected a VMware solution that uses the virtual machine model. We selected servers for virtualization in the following manner. Servers were chosen that had the highest rate of service usage and CPU usage and had been operating for five years or more. However, we excluded servers that require 80% or greater rates of CPU usage. After adopting the server virtualization technique, we consolidated 32 servers into 3 servers. Virtualization is a technology that can provide benefits in these areas: server consolidation and optimization, infrastructure cost reduction and improved operational flexibility, and implementation of a dual computing environment.
