  • Recently, the number of camera companies that produce commercializing interchangeable lens systems such as digital single lens reflex (DSLR) and compact system camera (CSC) lenses has been gradually increasing. These interchangeable lenses have various kinds of lenses with distinct specifications. In particular, the distance window among these specifications is the function most preferred by customers. Mechanical manual zoom and manual focus in these high end camera lenses with a distance window are in particular desirable specifications and are required for product quality. However, the AF lens group is linked to the zoom cam and moves. Because the AF lens group moves along with the object distance, we can not realize the distance window with only zoom locus calculation. In this paper, in order to solve the problem, we suggest an optical calculation method for a corrected AF zoom cam for an interchangeable lens with a distance window to achieve product differentiation and analyze the error in the calculation.

  • By controlling the pixels of a liquid crystal display (LCD) electronically, we fabricated a real-time moving window on a LCD, through which light passes. Using the moving window and hi-focusing lens, we suggested a non-mechanical spatio-angular multiplexed holographic memory system and demonstrated its feasibility through optical experiments. The principle of the proposed method and optical experimental results are also presented.

  • The optical window, as a part of the collimator system, is the connector between the outside light source and the optical system inside a vacuum tank. The temperature and pressure difference between the two sides of the optical window cause not only thermoelastic deformation, but also refractive-index irregularities. To suppress the influence of these two changes on the performance of the collimator system, thermo-optical analysis is employed. Coefficients that characterize the deformations and refractive-index distributions are derived through finite-element analysis, and then imported into the collimator system using a user-defined surface in ZEMAX. The temperature and pressure difference imposed on the window seriously degrade the system performance of the collimator. A decentered and tilted lens group is designed to correct both field aberrations and the thermal effects of the window. Through lens-interval adjustment of the lens group, the diffraction-limited performance of the collimator can be maintained with a vacuum level of 10-5 Pa and inside temperature ranging from -100 ℃ to 20 ℃.

  • We develop new sonar system by way of acoustic focusing which is totally different from conventional one in principle. It focuses input wave on the opposite edge of the lens without aberration perfectly. Then, the motion of acoustic source is read by naked eyes. It can be used as an acoustic window deep underwater by converting sound into light. We introduce the sonar in actual size that can be used underwater and report current situation of the development.

  • The shape of small or curved object is usually reconstructed using a single camera by moving its lens position to find a sequence of the focused images. Most conventional methods have used a window with fixed shape to test the focus measure, which resulted in a deterioration of accuracy. To solve this problem, this paper proposes a new approach of using a shape adaptive window. It estimates the shape of the object at every step and applies the same shape of window to calculate the focus measure. Focus measure is based on the variance of the pixels inside the window. This paper includes the experimental results.

  • A method to focus the object in camera system by applying the Hill climb algorithm from optical lens moving device (VCM; Voice coil motor) is proposed. The focusing algorithm from VCM is focus on the object but in these criteria is a well-known drawback; the focus is good only at same distance objects but the focus is bad (blur image) at different distance objects because of the DOF (Depth of focus) or DOF (Depth of field) at the optical characteristic. Here, the new camera system that describes the Reflector of free curvature systems (or Diffractive Fresnel lens) and the partition of focusing window area is proposed. The method to improve the focus in all areas (different distance objects) is proposed by new optical system (discrete auto in-focus) using the Reflector of free curvature systems (or Diffractive Fresnel lens) and by applying the partition of all areas. The proposal is able to obtain good focus in all areas.

  • A holographic display system with a 22-inch LCD panel is developed to provide a wide viewing angle and large holographic 3D image. It is realized by steering a narrow viewing window resulting from a very large pixel pitch compared to the wave length of the laser light. Point light sources and a lens array make it possible to arbitrarily control the position of the viewing window for a moving observer. The holographic display provides both eyes of the observer with a holographic 3D image using two vertically placed LCD panels and a beam splitter to support the holographic stereogram.
