  • This paper deals with efficient diagnostic for stator winding fault of 3-phase induction motor using a current Park's vector approach. This method firstly transforms 3-phase stator current to vertical axis current and horizontal axis current of Park's Vector, and then obtains the each Park's Vector Pattern and detects stator winding fault by comparing to Park's Vector Pattern of healthy and fault. Experimental results, obtained by using induction motor having inter-turn fault of 2, 10, 20 turn, demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed technique, for detecting the presence of stator winding fault under 25%, 50%, and 100% of full load condition.

  • Stator turn faults in permanent magnet synchronous motors (PMSMs) are more dangerous than those in induction motors (IMs) because of the presence of spinning rotor magnets that can be turned off at will. Condition monitoring and fault detection and diagnosis of the PMSM have been receiving a growing amount of attention among scientists and engineers in the past few years. The aim of this study is to propose a new detection technique of stator winding faults in a three-phase PMSM. This technique is based on the image analysis and recognition of the stator current Concordia patterns, and will allow the identification of turn faults in the stator winding as well as its correspondent fault index severity. A test bench of a vector controlled PMSM motor behaviors under short circuited turn in two phases stator windings has been built. Some experimental results of the phase to phase short circuits have been performed for diagnosis purpose.

  • In this paper a robust controller using adaptive backstepping technique is proposed to control the speed of wind power generation system. To make wind power generation truly cost effective and reliable, advanced and robust control algorithms are derived to on-line adjust the excitation winding voltage of the generator based on both mechanical and electrical dynamics. This method is shown to be able to achieve smooth and asymptotic rotor speed tracking, as justified by analysis and computer simulation.

  • Single winding self driven synchronous rectification(SWSDSR) scheme is based on an additional winding in the power transformer (auxiliary winding). It allows for maintaining the synchronous rectifiers on even when the voltage in the transformer is zero, which is impossible to do in traditional self-driven approaches. Its technique is verified to improve the efficiency by experiment. In this paper, there are compared self driven synchronous rectification(SDSR) with SWSDSR about the efficiency

  • The deflection yoke (DY) controls the direction of the electron beam that falls on the screen of the television monitor. Its quality depends on the shape and density of coils wound around the DY coil separator. Winding frames are used to make these coils, and therefore, their shapes are essential in making quality coils. A reverse engineering(RE) is applied to create the 3D model of the winding frame. It considerably shortens the design verification time and shows the level of accuracy that is feasible in the production mode. The paper explains each step of the reverse engineering process in detail.

  • The recent advancements in power electronic switching devices have enabled high frequency switching operation and have improved the performance of pulse-width modulated (PWM) inverters for driving induction motors. But, the insulation failures of stator winding have attracted much concern due to high dv/dt of IGBT PWM inverter. In this paper, the test results for evaluation on the stator winding insulation of low-voltage induction motors for IGBT PWM inverter applications are presented. The insulation characteristics are analyzed with partial discharge and dissipation factor tests. Also, insulation breakdown tests by switching pulse voltage are performed. An effective insulation technique to enhance the insulation strength is suggested from the test results.

  • In this paper, a method for detecting broken rotor bar and stator winding fault in a low voltage squirrel-case induction motor using an air-gap flux variation analysis is proposed to develop a simple and low cost diagnosis technique. To measure the leakage flux in radial direction, a radial flux sensor is designed as a search coil and installed between stator slots. The proposed method is able to identify two kinds of motor faults by calculating load condition of motors and monitoring abnormal signals those are related with motor faults. Experimental results obtained on 7.5kW three-phase squirrel-cage induction motors are discussed to verify the performance of the proposed method.

  • Multi-resolution Signal Decomposition (MSD) Technique of Wavelet Transform has interesting properties of capturing the embedded horizontal, vertical and diagonal variations within an image in a separable form. This feature was exploited to identify individual partial discharge sources present in multi-source PD pattern, usually encountered during practical PD measurement. Employing the Daubechies wavelet, feature were extracted from the third level decomposed and reconstructed horizontal and vertical component images. These features were found to contain the necessary discriminating information corresponding to the individual PD sources and multi-PD soruces.

  • A new reset winding clamped forward converter with transformer voltage feedback technique for power factor correction with a single-switch/single-stage is proposed. The proposed converter gives the good power factor correction, low current harmonic distortions, and tight output voltage regulation. The prototype shows the IEC555-2 requirements are met satisfactorily with nearly unity power factor.

  • SRM has been applied to many commercial applications that require economical advantages and high performance abilities. But it has some drawbacks such as acoustic noise due to the abrupt change of mmf level when commutation. The abrupt change of a phase excitation produces mechanical stresses and it results in torque ripple and noise. This paper deals with an analysis of vibration and noise in SRM drive. Several types of excitation method are taken into account. The 1-phase and 2-phase excitation technique of short-pitch winding 2-phase excitation technique of full-pitch winding are tested. The acoustic noise is reduced remarkably through the sequential phase excitation in the 2-phase excitation. It is because that the scheme reduces abrupt change of excitation level by distributed balanced excitation with free-wheeling during commutation.
