In recent day, many people are interested in wind resource for generation of electric power. Especially, it is made assessment the possibility of generation of electric power by wind resource originated from running cars and buses in downtown or highway. Moreover bus, driven in the exclusive lane, is focused on possibility of generation electric power on highway because median strip makes fast flow way between bus body and median strip and a pattern will appear in the flow way like drag coefficient. But nobody can guess whether the induced flow will increase or decrease and estimate amount of change of drag coefficient. Solving drag coefficient of bus running highway is the point of this paper. To solve this problem, we use the CFD method. The model is a bus simplified without mirror and gates. In order to assess result, the flow analysis surrounding the bus on the flat road where median strip is not installed has been compared with road with median strip. Solving condition is that the driving highway and median strip are running with 100km/h (27.8m/s).
The three-dimensional unsteady incompressible Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes equations and k-${\varepsilon}$ double equations turbulent model were used to investigate the effect on the measurements of anemometers due to a passing high-speed train. Sliding mesh technology in Fluent was utilized to treat the moving boundary problem. The high-speed train considered in this paper was with bogies and inter-carriage gaps. Combined with the results of the wind tunnel test in a published paper, the accuracy of the present numerical method was validated to be used for further study. In addition, the difference of slipstream between three-car and eight-car grouping models was analyzed, and a series of numerical simulations were carried out to study the influences of the anemometer heights, the train speeds, the crosswind speeds and the directions of the induced slipstream on the measurements of the anemometers. The results show that the influence factors of the train-induced slipstream are the passing head car and tail car. Using the three-car grouping model to analyze the train-induced flow is reasonable. The maxima of horizontal slipstream velocity tend to reduce as the height of the anemometer increases. With the train speed increasing, the relationship between $V_{train}$ and $V_{induced\;slipstream}$ can be expressed with linear increment. In the absence of natural wind conditions, from the head car arriving to the tail car leaving, the induced wind direction changes about $330^{\circ}$, while under the crosswind condition the wind direction fluctuates around $-90^{\circ}$. With the crosswind speed increasing, the peaks of $V_X,{\mid}V_{XY}-V_{wind}{\mid}$ of the head car and that of $V_X$ of the tail car tend to enlarge. Thus, when anemometers are installed along high-speed railways, it is important to study the effect on the measurements of anemometers due to the train-induced slipstream.

In this study, a spectral fatigue analysis was performed for the topside structure of an offshore floating vessel. The topside structure was idealized using beam elements in the SACS program. The fatigue analysis was carried out considering the wave and wind loads separately. For the wave-induced fatigue damage calculation, motion RAOs calculated from a direct wave load analysis and regular waves with different periods and unit wave heights were utilized. Then, the member end force transfer functions were generated covering all the loading conditions. Stress response transfer functions at each joint were produced using the specified SCFs and member end force transfer functions. fatigue damages were calculated using the obtained stress ranges, S-N curve, wave spectrum, heading probability of each loading condition, and their corresponding occurrences in the wave scatter diagrams. For the wind induced fatigue damage calculation, a dynamic wind spectral fatigue analysis was performed. First, a dynamic natural frequency analysis was performed to generate the structural dynamic characteristics, including the eigenvalues (natural frequencies), eigenvectors (mode shapes), and mass matrix. To adequately represent the dynamic characteristic of the structure, the number of modes was appropriately determined in the lateral direction. Second, a wind spectral fatigue analysis was performed using the mode shapes and mass data obtained from the previous results. In this analysis, the Weibull distribution of the wind speed occurrence, occurrence probability in each direction, damping coefficient, S-N curves, and SCF of each joint were defined and used. In particular, the wind fatigue damages were calculated under the assumption that the stress ranges followed a Rayleigh distribution. The total fatigue damages were calculated from the combination with wind and wave fatigue damages according to the DNV rule.
'Ionic wind' is phenomenon induced by corona discharge which occurs when large electric potential is applied to electrodes with high curvature. The ionic wind has advantage that it could generate forced convective flow without any external energy like separate pump. In this study, 'pin-mesh' arrangement is utilized for experiments. First, optimization of configuration is conducted with local momentum of ionic wind behind the mesh. Empirical equation for prediction about velocity profile was derived using the measured results. Secondly, the enhancement of mass transfer rate of acetone with ionic wind was analyzed. Also, the drying efficiency using a fan which has same flow rate was compared with ionic wind for identification of additional chemical reaction. At last, the drying process of organic solvent was visualized with image processing. As a result, it was shown that the use of ionic wind could dry organic matter four times faster than the natural condition.

In previous model- and full-scale studies, high-amplitude vertical vibrations of mast-arm traffic signal structures have been shown to be due to vortex shedding, a phenomenon in which alternatingly shed, low-pressure vortices induce oscillating forces onto the mast-arm causing a cross-wind response. When the frequency of vortices being shed from the mast-arm corresponds to the natural frequency of the structure, a resonant condition is created causing long-lasting, high-amplitude vibrations which may lead to the fatigue failure of these structures. Turbulence in the approach flow is known to affect the cohesiveness of vortex shedding. Results from this full-scale investigation indicate that the surrounding terrain conditions, which affect the turbulence intensity of the wind, greatly influence the likelihood of occurrence of long-lasting, high-amplitude vibrations and also impact whether reduced service life due to fatigue is likely to be of concern.
The aerostatic instability of cable-supported bridges is studied, with emphasis placed on modeling of the geometric nonlinear effects of various components of cable-supported bridges. Two-node catenary cable elements, which are more rational than truss elements, are adopted for simulating cables with large or small sags. Aerostatic loads are expressed in terms of the mean drag, lift and pitching moment coefficients. The geometric nonlinear analysis is performed with the dead loads and wind loads applied in two stages. The critical wind velocity for aerostatic instability is obtained as the condition when the pitching angle of the bridge deck becomes unbounded. Unlike those existing in the literature, each intermediate step of the incremental-iterative procedure is clearly given and interpreted. As such, the solutions obtained for the bridges are believed to be more rational than existing ones. Comparisons and discussions are given for the examples studied.

Up to the present the study on the performance prediction of HAWT was performed mainly by assuming the axial flow. So in this paper we aimed at the fully non-axial flow of HAWT. For this purpose, we defined the wind turbine pitch angle in addition to the yaw angle to specify the arbitrary wind direction. And we adopted the Glauert method as the basic analysis method then modified this method suitably for our goal. By comparing the computational results obtained by this modified new Glauert method with the experimental results, it was proved that our method was a very efficient method. And on the basis of the reliability of this method we considered the effect of all the design parameters and presented the optimum blade geometry and the optimum operating condition to gain the best performance curve.

In this study, analytical works for the induced winds due to traveling vehicles on highway have been conducted by Computation Fluid Dynamics (CFD). The traveling condition was considered in two cases: (a) single direction and (b) bi-direction. The analysis was focused on the effects of the induced winds on the upper part of a median strip while the aerodynamic characteristics of the vehicles were directly analyzed in the previous studies. From the analysis results, it has been found that the maximum magnitude of the induced winds was 2.2 m/s when the vehicles travel with the speed of 50 km/h. Additionally, 4.0 m/s and 5.3 m/s were obtained with the speed of 90 km/h and 120 km/h, respectively. Especially, the induced winds was generated about 84% of the vehicle speed at 1.0 m above from the median strip when the vehicles travel with the speed of 120 km/h. The induced winds was maintained during the very short period while the traveling. conclusively, it is noted that the wind power generation can be possible by using the small-sized wind power generators installed on median strips throughout the analytical results in this study.
Wind-induced and earthquake-induced excitations on tall structures can be effectively controlled by Tuned Liquid Damper (TLD). This work presents a numerical simulation procedure to study the performance of tuned liquid tank- structure system through ${\sigma}$-transformation based fluid-structure coupled solver. For this, a 'C' based computational code is developed. Structural equations are coupled with fluid equations in order to achieve the transfer of sloshing forces to structure for damping. Structural equations are solved by fourth order Runge-Kutta method while fluid equations are solved using finite difference based sigma transformed algorithm. Code is validated with previously published results. The minimum displacement of structure is observed when the resonance condition of the coupled system is satisfied through proper tuning of TLD. Since real-time excitations are random in nature, the performance study of TLD under random excitation is also carried out in which the Bretschneider spectrum is used to generate the random input wave.
The installation of a topside structure can be categorized into the following stages: start, pre-lifting, lifting, lifted, rotating, positioning, lowering, mating, and end of installation. The transfer of the module onto the floating spar hull occurs in the last three stages, from lowering to the end. The coupled multi-body motions are calculated in both calm water and in irregular waves with a significant wave height (1.52m). The effects of the hydrodynamic interactions between the heavy lifting vessel and the spar hull during the lowering and mating stages are considered. The internal forces caused by the load transfer and ballasting are derived for the mating phases. The results of the internal forces for the calm water condition are compared with those in the irregular sea condition. Although the effect of the pitch motion on the relative vertical motion between the deck of the floating structure and the topside module is significant in the mating phases, the internal force induced pitch motion is too small to have this influence. However, the effect of the internal force on the wave-induced heave responses in the mating phases is noticeable in the irregular sea condition because transfer mass-induced draught changes for the floating structure are observed to have higher amplitudes than the external force induced responses. The impacts of the module on the spar hull in the mating phase are investigated.
