  • In this paper, a compliant buoy mooring system of a floating cylindrical structure in shallow water depth is studied experimentally. The compliant buoy mooring system consists of four buoys, vertical mooring legs and horizontal mooring lines. A series of model test were carried out at KRISO ocean engineering basin for various mooring parameters; line length, pretension of mooring leg and mooring layouts and environmental conditions; regular and irregular waves combined with current and wind. The mooring line tensions and 6-DOF motions of the floating structure were measured using water-proof load cells and 3 CCD camera system. The results of a series of model tests were discussed on nonlinear motion behaviors of the floating structure and characterisitics of cumulative distributions of mooring line peak tensions.

  • As a typoon gets into harbour, a moored ships shows erratic motions and even mooring line failures is occurred. Such troubles may be caused by harbour resonance phenomena, result in large motion amplitudes at law frequency, which is closed to the natural frequency of the moored ship. The nonlinear motions of a moored ship beside quay are simulated under external forces due to wave, current including mooring forces in time domain. The forces due to waves are obtained from source and dipole distribution method in the frequency domain. The current forces are calculated by using slow motion maneuvering equation in the horizontal plane. The wind forces are calculated from emperical formula of ABS and the mooring forces of ropes and fenders are modeled as linear spring.

  • Recently it was known that the problems of nearshore processes and damage of berth and counter facilities frequently had appeared at the small fishery port, such as Daebang near Samcheonpo city, Korea. Here we try to analyze the impact of the rearrangement of counter facilities and berth layout adopted for tranquility of its inner harbor. Because this harbor is being connected to Daebang channel, the rearrangement of the structures might affect to the current speed and direction and wave height, so do to the sea bottom undulation. Therefore, we made model test for the several layouts of the berth and breakwater in this area. Numerical model result shows that the bottom was eroded by 1m by tidal currents and the speed of flow did not shrink, even after the construction work was completed. The direction of the sand movement was downdrift. Although the model study gave reasonable description of beach processes and approach channel sedimentation mechanism, it is necessary to compare with the field history, including the records of waves, tides and bottom materials, etc. for better prediction.

  • In North-East asian countries, laver cultivation has been an important marine industry in coastal areas as well as fishery because laver (Porphyra) is nutrient-rich food and has been used in many Asian cuisines. Laver is characterized by high concentrations of fiber and minerals, a low fat content, and, in some cases, relatively high protein levels. In this paper we inplimented design of fully automatic laver harvesting, nowdays most peoples are used to collect a laver harvesting by human, it is very defficult working, due to wind, waves, and the weather conditions which is hard to stand on the ship and holding the seaweed nets it can be injurced human, this is the reason to we are developed automatic harvesting method, in this project we proposed automatic harvesting collect method which is operated without human. Mainly we design and developed automated ship, This ship is devided in to three parts frist part is supporting roller, second part is drum screener, thried part is lifting mechanism. Thise are operated with hydro pnumatic equimpment, this divice are control with micro controller. The system prototype has implemented and satisfied by the performance to realize the further level.

  • Lately Gun-Jang Harbor has undergone a drastic change in hydraulic characteristics due to newly added harbor protection measures, like a wharf and breakwater. The wharf and breakwater, with a training dike, were constructed to keep enough depth far navigation. They make the plan view of Gun-Jang Harbor semi closed and very elongated, which makes it very vulnerable to seiche. Hence it is an urgent task to unveil the hydraulic characteristics, like seiche, for the optimal operation of the new harbor system. In this study, we numerically analyze the seiche characteristics of Gun-Jang Harbor over the $10-4{\sim}10-3$ Hz frequency range, considering that wind waves due to seasonal winds are the most prevailing during winter in the West sea. As a wave driver, we use Mild Slope Eqs. and numerically integrate these using FEM based on Galerkin weak formulation. It turns out that the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th eigen models are over 0.0009 Hz, 0.0013 Hz, 0.0017 Hz and 0.002 Hz.

  • This paper examines the nonlinear behaviour of corrugated steel plate shear walls under lateral pushover load. One of the innovations in these types of walls which have used in recent years is the use of the corrugated steel shear walls rather un-stiffness plates. In the last decades many experimental studies have been done on the on the corrugated steel shear walls. A finite element analysis that includes both material and geometric nonlinearities is employed for the investigation. A comparison is made between the behaviour of steel shear walls with sinusoidal corrugated plate and trapezoidal corrugated plate. The effects of parameters such as the thickness of the corrugated plate, the corrugation depth in the corrugated plates and the corrugation length of the infill of the corrugated plates, are investigated. The results of this study have demonstrated that in the wall with constant dimensions, the trapezoidal plates have higher energy dissipation, ductility and ultimate bearing than sinusoidal waves, while decreasing the steel material consumption.

  • In this study, experiments with a floater using flapping foils were performed to develop a new station keeping system that can maintain its position in waves without mooring lines. The foils applied to this system generate thrust using wave energy. In this experiment, the motion of the floater was analyzed in three different wave periods. Sixteen foils were attached to the cylindrical floater. The thrust of each foil was controlled by changing its azimuth angle, and three cases were compared. Based on the previous data, we made more precise measurements and found an optimal model for stationkeeping under each wave condition. We verified the potential of this new stationkeeping system using flapping foils, and conclusions were drawn from the results.

  • Decisions of the design speed, MCR, and engine capacity have been empirically made by assuming the value termed the sea margin. Due to ambiguity regarding the effect of some factors on the sea margin, the value has been commonly decided based on experience. To evaluate the value from a new viewpoint, it is necessary to construct an approach to estimate the sea margin through an objective procedure based on a physical and mathematical model. In this paper, a framework to estimate the actual sea margin of an LNGC based on the maneuvering equations of motion is suggested by considering the hull, propeller, rudder, and given sea route under wind and waves. The fouling effect is additionally quantified as the increase of total resistance by considering the re-docking period. The operation data is reviewed to amend the increase of the total resistance considering the speed loss of a ship. Finally, the factor of how much the resistance increases due to fouling is newly obtained for the vessel. Based on the comparison of the estimated sea margin with the empirical range of the sea margin, the constructed framework is regarded as feasible.

  • Background: A review of the literature was carried out to study dust and sandstorm (DSS) in terms of its ecosystem processes and relationship to other dryland disasters in Northeast Asia. Drylands are ecosystems that include grasslands, semi-deserts, and deserts, and these types of ecosystems are vulnerable due to their low primary productivity that depends on a small amount of precipitation. Results: Drought, dust, desertification, and winter livestock disasters (called dzud) are unique natural disasters that affect the region. These disasters are related in that they share major causes, such as dryness and low vegetation cover that combine with other conditions, wind, cold waves, livestock, and land-surface energy, to dramatically impact the ecosystem. Conclusions: The literature review in this study illustrates the macroscopic context of the spatial and temporal patterns of DSS according to geography, climate, and vegetation growth in the drylands of Northeast Asia. The effects of ocean climates and human activities were discussed to infer a possible teleconnection effect of DSS and its relations to desertification and dzud.
