Offshore wind farm is being increased since there are much trouble to develop onshore wind farm. But in the offshore, wind turbine wake does not dissipate less than onshore wind turbine because of low turbulence level. Thus this remained wake interacted to other wind turbine. This interaction reduces energy production in wind farm and have a bad influence on fatigue load of wind turbine. In this research, CFD model was constructed to analyze wake effect in offshore wind farm. A method that wind turbine rotor region was modelled in porous media was devised to reduce computation load and validated by comparison with Horns Rev measurement. Then wake interaction between two wind turbine was analyzed by devised porous model.

With the advent of high performance computers and more efficient numerical algorithms, computational fluid dynamics(CFD) has come out as a modem alternative for reducing the use of wind tunnels test in automotive engineering. However, in spite of the fact that many competent researchers have made all their talents in developing turbulence model over since the past dozen or more years, it has been an important impediment in using the CFD effectively to design machinery and to diagnose or to improve engineering problems in the industry since the turbulence model has been acting as the Achilles' tendon in aspect of the reliability even to this time. In this study, Reynolds-averaged Wavier-Stokes equations were solved to simulate an incompressible turbulent flow around a bus-like bluff body near ground plane. In order to investigate the effect of the discretisation schemes and turbulence model on the aerodynamic forces several turbulence models with five convective difference schemes are adopted. From the results of this study, it is clear that choice of turbulence model and discretisation scheme profoundly affects the computational outcome. The results also show that the adoption of RNG $k-\varepsilon$ turbulence model and nonlinear quadratic turbulence model with the second order accurate discretisation scheme predicts fairly well the aerodynamic coefficients.
This paper presents numerical results of pedestrian-level wind environment around the base of a row of tall buildings by CFD. Four configurations of building arrangement are computed including a single square tall building. Computed results of pedestrian-level wind flow patterns and wind speeds are compared to previous wind tunnel measurement data to enable an assessment of CFD predictions. The CFD model uses the finite-volume method with RNG $k-{\varepsilon}$ model for turbulence closure. It is found that the numerical results can reproduce key features of pedestrian-level wind environment such as corner streams around corners of upwind building, sheltered zones behind buildings and channeled high-speed flow through a building gap. However, there are some differences between CFD results and wind tunnel data in the wind speed distribution and locations of highest wind speeds inside the corner streams. In locations of high ground-level wind speeds, CFD values match wind tunnel data within ${\pm}10%$.
A numerical wind tunnel simulation is performed in order to predict wind loads acting on a building. The aim of the present study is to suggest a guideline for the numerical wind tunnel analysis, which could provide more detail wind load distributions compared to the wind code and expensive wind tunnel experiments. To validate the present numerical simulation, wind-induced loads on a 6 m cube model is predicted. Atmospheric boundary layer is used as a inlet boundary condition. Various effect of numerical methods are investigated such as size of computational domain, grid density, turbulence model and discretization scheme. The appropriate procedure for the numerical wind tunnel analysis is suggested through the present study.

In the present study, the wind characteristics were analyzed according to the time averages to evaluate the performance of small wind turbines required for the development of energy independent village. Measuring data of wind speed were recorded between January 2016 and April 2016 every second. Experimental data is averaged out using 5, 10, 15, 20 and 30 minute time steps. Throughout the experimental data analysis, 5 minutes averaged data is used to analyze the performance of the wind turbine, because it produces a minimum turbulence intensity in wind speed. The measuring power of the wind turbine is less than the designed value due to the unsteady nature wind of sudden changes in magnitude of wind speed and wind angle. Detailed wind conditions are also analysed using two variable Weibull probability density functions.
The aim of this paper is to enhance the accuracy of predicting time-averaged external surface pressures on low-rise buildings by utilizing Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulations. To achieve this, benchmark studies of the Silsoe cube and the Texas Tech University (TTU) experimental building are employed for comparison with simulation results. The paper is structured into three main sections. In the initial part, an appropriate domain size is selected based on the precision of mean pressure coefficients on the windward face of the cube, utilizing Reynolds Averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) turbulence models. Subsequently, recommendations regarding the optimal computational domain size for an isolated building are provided based on revised findings. Moving on to the second part, the Silsoe cube model is examined within a horizontally homogeneous computational domain using more accurate turbulence models, such as Large Eddy Simulation (LES) and hybrid RANS-LES models. For computational efficiency, transient simulation settings are employed, building upon previous studies by the authors at the Windstorm Impact, Science, and Engineering (WISE) Lab, Louisiana State University (LSU). An optimal meshing strategy is determined for LES based on a grid convergence study. Three hybrid RANS-LES cases are investigated to achieve desired enhancements in the distribution of mean pressure coefficients on the Silsoe cube. In the final part, a 1:10 scale model of the TTU building is studied, incorporating the insights gained from the second part. The generated flow characteristics, including vertical profiles of mean velocity, turbulence intensity, and velocity spectra (small and large eddies), exhibit good agreement with full-scale (TTU) measurements. The results indicate promising roof pressures achieved through the careful consideration of meshing strategy, time step, domain size, inflow turbulence, near-wall treatment, and turbulence models. Moreover, this paper demonstrates an improvement in mean roof pressures compared to other state-of-the-art studies, thus highlighting the significance of CFD simulations in building aerodynamics.

In this paper, used by the boundary layer wind tunnel test, have conducted a series of wind tunnel experiments, i.e. test the mean velocity profile regarding the surface roughness, turbulence intensity and power spectrum measured by augmentation device. After that, to provide data relevant for the preliminary design step of tall building hazard fluctuating wind loads may be obtained fluctuating pressure coefficients, fluctuating pressure spectrum, autocorrelation coefficients by the boundary layer wind tunnel test. From the results of experiments, this study can be obtained conclusions as follows. 1. We know the fact that the mean velocity profile and the turbulence intensity are well fitted natural wind flow in the boundary layer wind tunnel. 2. The satisfactory agreement of velocity spectrum can be obtained from the compare of fluctuating power spectrum and Von Karman spectrum. 3. We know the fact that the fluctuating pressure spectrums distributed peak at 0.01 Hz-0.1 Hz in the windward surfaces and at 0.1 Hz in the leeward surfaces. 4. We know the fact that the autocorrelation coefficients distributed stationary random processes with application time of hazard fluctuating wind loads.
This paper investigates the correlation of wind characteristics monitored on a cable-stayed bridge. Total five anemoscopes are implemented into the bridge. Two out of 5 anemoscopes in inflow and two out of 5 anemoscopes in wake-flow along the longitudinal direction of the bridge are installed. Four anemoscopes are respectively distributed at two cross-sections. Another anemoscope is installed at the top of the tower. The correlation of mean wind speed and direction, power spectral density, the turbulent intensity and integral length of wind in flow at two cross-sections are investigated. In addition, considering the non-stationary characteristics of wind, the spatial correlation in time-frequency is analyzed using wavelet transform and different phenomenon from those obtained through FFT is observed. The time-frequency analysis further indicates that intermittence, coherence structures and self-similar structures are distinctly observed from fluctuant wind. The flow characteristics around the bridge deck at two positions are also investigated using the field measurement. The results indicate that the mean wind speed decrease when the flow passing through the deck, but the turbulence intensity become much larger and the turbulence integral lengths become much smaller compared with those of inflow. The relationship of RMS (root mean square) of wake-flow and the mean wind speed of inflow is approximately linear. The special structures of wake-flow in time-frequency domain are also analyzed using wavelet transform, which aids to reveal the forming process of wake-flow.
Investigations on simulated near-surface atmospheric boundary layer (ABL) in an open-jet facility are carried out by conducting experimental tests on small-scale models of low-rise buildings. The objectives of the current study are: (1) to determine the optimal location of test buildings from the exit of the open-jet facility, and (2) to investigate the scale effect on the aerodynamic pressure characteristics. Based on the results, the newly built open-jet facility is well capable of producing mean wind speed and turbulence profiles representing open-terrain conditions. The results show that the proximity of the test model to the open-jet governs the length of the separation bubble as well as the peak roof pressures. However, test models placed at a horizontal distance of 2.5H (H is height of the wind field) from the exit of the open-jet, with a width that is half the width of the wind field and a length of 1H, have consistent mean and peak pressure coefficients when compared with available results from wind tunnel testing. In addition, testing models with as large as 16% blockage ratio is feasible within the open-jet facility. This reveals the importance of open-jet facilities as a robust tool to alleviate the scale restrictions involved in physical investigations of flow pattern around civil engineering structures. The results and findings of this study are useful for putting forward recommendations and guidelines for testing protocols at open-jet facilities, eventually helping the progress of enhanced standard provisions on the design of low-rise buildings for wind.
The tower-platform interface and mooring system of floating offshore wind turbines (FOWTs) are some of the most critical components with significant influences on overall project costs. In addition to satisfying strength requirements, it is typical and vital to meet fatigue criteria for a service life of 25 years or more. Wind spectra characteristics considered in analysis can penalize fatigue designs, leading to unnecessary costs. The International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC, 2009) recommends the use of site-specific wind data (spectrum, turbulence intensity, etc.) in design of FOWTs, but for offshore sites it is often the case that such data is unavailable and land-based data are used as surrogates in design. For such scenarios, it is worth investigating whether such alternative approach is suitable and accurate, and understanding the consequence of the selection of wind spectral characteristics on fatigue design. This paper addresses the impact of the subsequent selection on fatigue responses of towerbase and mooring system in a FOWT, as a sequel to the paper by Udoh and Zou (2018) which focused on impacts on strength design. The 5 MW semi-submersible FOWT platform with six mooring lines implemented in the preceding study is applied in analysis. Results indicate significant variations in resulting fatigue life with considered wind parameters. Thus, it is critical to apply proper wind spectra characteristics for analysis and design of FOWTs to avoid unnecessary conservatism and costs. Based on the findings of this study, more explicit guidance on the application of turbulence intensities for IEC-recommended models in offshore sites could lead to more accurate load estimates in design of FOWTs.
