We have established a wind map of Singapore, a city-state characterized its land cover by urban buildings to confirm a possibility of wind farm development. As a simple but useful approximation of urban canopy, a zero-plane displacement concept was employed. The territory is divided into 15 sectors having similar urban building layouts, and zero-plane displacement, equivalent roughness height at each sector was calculated to setup a terrain boundary condition. Annual mean wind speed and mean wind power density map were drawn by a CFD micrositing model, WindSim where Changi International Airport wind data was used as an in-situ measurement. Unfortunately, predicted wind power density does not exceed 80 $W/m^2$ at 50 m above ground level which would not sufficient for wind power generation. However, the established Singapore wind map is expected to be applied for wind environment assessment and urban planning purpose.

In this paper, we present the estimation of wind turbine power generation using Cascade Architectures of Fuzzy Neural Networks(CAFNN). The proposed model uses the wind speed average, the standard deviation and the past output power as input data. The CAFNN identification process uses a 10-min average wind speed with its standard deviation. The method for rule-based fuzzy modeling uses Gaussian membership function. It has three fuzzy variables with three modifiable parameters. The CAFNN's configuration has three Logic Processors(LP) that are constructed cascade architecture and an effective optimization method uses two-level genetic algorithm. First, The CAFNN is trained with one-day average input variables. Once the CAFNN has been trained, test data are used without any update. The main advantage of using CAFNN is having simple structure of system with many input variables. Therefore, The proposed CAFNN technique is useful to predict the wind turbine(WT) power effectively and hence that information will be helpful to decide the control strategy for the WT system operation and application.
This paper is intended to provide experimental data for the design of the small VAWT(vertical axis wind turbine). Three types(lift, drag, and hybrid) of the blade of VAWT are tested with digital wind tunnel in this study. From the test, the relation of power coefficient and tip speed ratio for the blades are evaluated and compared each other depending on the blade type. Especially, the characteristics of hybrid blade which is shown to be expanded in the market without any logical data is proposed in the relation of power coefficient and tip speed ratio. It is shown that the hybrid blade can be used to make higher starting torque with trade off of degradation of power coefficient.
Evaporation from surface water bodies is influenced by a number of meteorological parameters. The rate of evaporation is primarily controlled by incoming solar radiation, air and water temperature and wind speed and relative humidity. In the present study, influence of weekly meteorological variables such as air temperature, relative humidity, bright sunshine hours, wind speed, wind velocity, rainfall on rate of evaporation has been examined using 35 years(1971-2005) of meteorological data. Statistical analysis was carried out employing linear regression models. The developed regression models were tested for goodness of fit, multicollinearity along with normality test and constant variance test. These regression models were subsequently validated using the observed and predicted parameter estimates with the meteorological data of the year 2005. Further these models were checked with time order sequence of residual plots to identify the trend of the scatter plot and then new standardized regression models were developed using standardized equations. The highest significant positive correlation was observed between pan evaporation and maximum air temperature. Mean air temperature and wind velocity have highly significant influence on pan evaporation whereas minimum air temperature, relative humidity and wind direction have no such significant influence.
Wind effects on a rain gauge can cause a significant underestimation of rainfall depths and contribute to the inconsistency in rainfall data. To revise the rainfall data requires the study about calculation of deficiency percentages of rain catch. There are few studies which reflect the variation of wind speed. in this study, the raindrop terminal velocity is quantified according to the particle size of rainfall. The model for calculating deficiency percentages of rain catch according to the particle size of rainfall is examined by experimentation. Experimentation shows that deficiency percentages of rain catch have no relationship with rainfall intensity and affected by raindrop diameter. In conclusion, the estimated deficiency percentages of rain catch coincided with the experimental results and can be used as recommended adjustment factors.

Experimental data are presented which describe heat losses of cavity type receiver in wind tunnel. Experiments are conducted at various conditions such as the heater temperature in cavity changes from 300, 400, and 500 oC, wind speed in tunnel from 2 to 8 m/s, and four different tilt angle of 30, 50, 70, 90o. The power consumption including temperature, voltage and current for each experimental conditions are measured and stored in data logger at everyone second interval. The experimental results show that heat losses increase with increasing wind speed and with tilt angle. However, heat losses for the tilt angle of 70 and 90o is almost same at each heater temperature. In addition, the effects of natural convection in combined convection heat losses vary in according to the tilt angle.
Vertical meteorological conditions encountered by super tall buildings, such as wind speed, temperature and humidity, vary due to their height. Therefore, it is necessary to consider these environmental changes to properly estimate the heating and cooling loads, and to minimize the energy demands for HVAC in super tall buildings. This paper aims to analyze how vertical meteorological changes affect heating and cooling loads of super tall buildings by using numerical simulation. A radiosonde, which observes atmospheric parameters of upper air such as wind speed, wind direction, temperature, relative humidity and pressure, was used to provide weather data for the building load simulation. A hypothetical super tall building was used for the simulation to provide quantified characteristics of the heating and cooling loads, comparing the lower, middle and upper parts of the building. The effect of weather data on the heating and cooling loads in super tall building was also discussed.

The purpose of this work is to compare and analyze computed results with experimental data of NREL (National Renewable Energy Laboratory) Phase VI for the whole operating conditions of various wind speeds using $\kappa-\omega$ turbulence model provided in the commercial code, FLUENT. Performance results such as power coefficient, shaft torque, pressure coefficient show a good agreement with experimental data. But, root bending moment is over-predicted than the experimentally measured value by about 30% for the whole operating conditions because of indefinite measurement reference. Nevertheless, these results qualitatively show a good tendency in the aspect of aerodynamic performance. As wind speed increases, streamlines on the surface of blade show more and more complex pattern.
The detail simulation modeling of fully-fed induction generator is investigated through PC based MATLAB/Simulink environment. Generator's stator currents are controlled by indirect vector control method. In this method, generator side converter controls the maximum excitation (air gap flux) by stator d-axis current and controls generator torque by stator q-axis current. Induction generator speed is controlled by tip speed ratio (TSR) upon the wind speed variations in order to generate the maximum output power. The generator torque model is specified as a 3-blade wind turbine with rating, then, the model is simulated under normal operating condition and three different fault conditions. The matlab model designed for fully-fed induction generator based wind farm provides good performance under normal and grid fault conditions. It provides good results for different pwm techniques and fault conditions except the single-phase line to ground fault, which should be verified with real time data from wind farms.

In order to access the accuracy of the gridded daily Advanced Scatterometer (hereafter DASCAT) ocean surface wind data in the surrounding of Korea, the DASCAT was compared with the wind data from buoys. In addition, the reanalysis data for wind at 10 m provided by European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF, hereafter ECMWF), National Centers for Environmental Prediction and National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCEP/NCAR, hereafter NCEP), Modern Era Retrospective-analysis for Research and Applications-2 (MERRA-2, hereafter MERRA) were compared and analyzed. As a result, the RMSE of DASCAT for the actual wind speed is about 3 m/s. The zonal components of wind of buoys and the DASCAT have strong correlation more than 0.8 and the meridional components of wind them have lower correlation than that of zonal wind and are the lowest in the Yellow Sea (r=0.7). When the actual wind speed is below 10 m/s, the EMCWF has the highest accuracy, followed by DASCAT, MERRA, and NCEP. However, under the wind speed more than 10 m/s, DASCAT shows the highest accuracy. In the nature of error according to the wind direction, when the zonal wind is strong, all dataset has the error of more than $70^{\circ}$ on the average. On the other hand, the RMSE of wind direction was recorded $50^{\circ}$ under the strong meridional winds. ECMWF shows the highest accuracy in these results. The RMSE of the wind speed according to the wind direction varied depending on the actual wind direction. Especially, MERRA has the highest RMSE under the westerly and southerly wind condition, while the NCEP has the highest RMSE under the easterly and northerly wind condition.
