낙엽송의 용기묘 생산을 위한 적정 용기 탐색 (Exploration of Optimum Container for Production of Larix leptolepsis Container Seedlings)

  • 본 연구는 우리나라의 주요 조림수종인 낙엽송의 용기묘 생산에 필요한 적정 용기개발에 관한 자료를 구축하고자 실시되었다. 1년생 용기묘의 수고 생장은 250 mL 용기에서 19.3 cm로, 2년생은 500 mL 용기에서 56.9 cm로 가장 컸으며, 근원경 생장은 1, 2년생 모두 500 mL 용기에서 가장 큰 것으로 조사되었다. 2년생 용기묘의 건물 생산량은 묘목 전체 및 각 기관별 모두 용기 용적이 클수록, 묘목 밀도는 낮을수록 큰 것으로 조사되었다. WinRhizo 프로그램을 이용한 뿌리형태 특성 분석에서 용적이 큰 용기가 작은 용기보다 전체뿌리길이, 투영단면적, 표면적, 평균뿌리직경, 그리고 뿌리부피가 더 크고 넓은 것으로 분석되었다. 이러한 뿌리형태 특성분석 요소 중 뿌리부피가 용적차이에 따라 가장 큰 영향을 받았는데 500 mL에 비하여 320 mL는 79.5%, 250 mL는 46.8% 수준이었다.

Effects of Low Dose Gamma Radiation on the Root Growth of Soybean Cultivars

  • ${\gamma}-Radiation$ at very low doses frequently has a stimulating or hormetic effect on the growth of organism. Effects of low dose ${\gamma}-ray$ irradiation on the root growth of soybean cultivars were investigated and hormetic effects by environmental conditions were compared with the occurrence of increased economic yield, seeds of cultivars were irradiated with the dose of $0.5{\sim}20Gy$ and cultivated in growth chamber controling temperature, humidity, light, greenhouse and field respectively. To understand hormetic effect on root growth of cultivars and the difference of hormetic effect by cultivation environment, harvested root of soybean cultivars were scanned with image file, and root surface area, root length, root average diameter etc. were examined by WinRhizo program. Also, dry weight of cultivars was examined. Root growth and dry weight of soybean cultivars showed apparently hormetic effect at cultivation of growth chamber condition. In field experiment executed for whole life cycle, yields of pea were not different significantly in each ${\gamma}-ray$ irradiated cultivars but weight of one hundred peas increased in whole ${\gamma}-ray$ irradiated cultivars. Increment of yield was assumed to be induced through shortening of maturing stage caused by ${\gamma}-ray$ hormesis in early growth stage.

편백 1, 2년생 노지묘와 용기묘의 생장특성 비교 (Comparison of Growth Characteristics of 1- and 2-year-old Bare Root and Container Seedling of Chamaecyparis obtusa)

  • 본 연구는 우리나라 남부지방의 주요 조림수종인 편백(Chamaecyparis obtusa Sieb. et Zucc.) 노지묘와 용기묘의 생육단계별 생장특성을 탐구하고자 수행되었다. 1년생 노지묘의 간장생장은 용적이 31.2 mL와 300 mL 용기에서 생장한 용기묘 보다 좋았으며, 근원경 생장은 300 mL 용기의 용기묘가 가장 좋았다. 2년생 노지묘는 300 mL 용기의 용기묘보다 간장 및 근원경생장이 양호한 것으로 조사되었다. 건물생산량 비교에서, 1년생 지상부는 32 mL 용기묘가, 지하부 및 전체 건물생산량은 300 mL 용기묘가 가장 높았다. 2년생의 경우는 지상부는 노지묘가, 지하부는 용기묘의 건물생산량이 높은 것으로 나타났다. 뿌리전체길이, 뿌리투영단면적, 뿌리표면적, 뿌리평균직경, 뿌리부피 등 묘목의 뿌리형태 특성 비교에서, 1, 2년생 용기묘 모두 뿌리평균직경을 제외하고는 노지묘보다 더 높은 생장을 보였다. 본 실험의 결과를 종합해 볼 때, 편백 묘목생산과정에서 용기묘가 노지묘에 비해 상대적으로 뿌리발달이 뛰어난 묘목으로 생장한 것으로 판단된다.

Investigation of Root Morphological and Architectural Traits in Adzuki Bean (Vigna angularis) Cultivars Using Imagery Data

  • Roots play important roles in water and nutrient uptake and in response to various environmental stresses. Investigating diversification of cultivars through root phenotyping is important for crop improvement in adzuki beans. Therefore, we analyzed the morphological and architectural root traits of 22 adzuki bean cultivars using 2-dimensional (2D) root imaging. Plants were grown in plastic tubes [6 cm (diameter) × 40 cm (height)] in a greenhouse from July 25th to August 28th. When the plants reached the 2nd or 3rd trifoliate leaf stage, the roots were removed and washed with tap water to remove soil particles. Clean root samples were scanned, and the scanned images were analyzed using the WinRHIZO Pro software. The cultivars were analyzed based on six root phenotypes [total root length (TRL), surface area (SA), average diameter (AD), and number of tips (NT) were included as root morphological traits (RMT); and link average length (LAL) and link average diameter (LAD) were included as root architectural traits (RAT)]. According to the analysis of variance (ANOVA), a significant difference was observed between the cultivars for all root morphological traits. Distribution analysis demonstrated that all root traits except LAL followed a normally distributed curve. In the correlation test, the most important morphological trait, TRL, showed a strong positive correlation with SA (r = 0.97***) and NT (r = 0.94***). In comparison, between RMT and RAT, TRL showed a significantly negative correlation with LAL (r = -0.50***); however, TRL did not show a correlation with LAD. Based on RMT and RAT, we identified the cultivars that ranked 5% from the top and bottom. In particular, the cultivar "IT 236657" showed the highest TRL, SA, and NT, while the cultivar "IT 236169" showed the lowest values for TRL, SA, and NT. In addition, the coefficient of variance for the six tested root traits ranged from (14.26-40%) which suggested statistical variability in root phenotypes among the 22 adzuki bean varieties. Thus, this study will help to select target root traits for the adzuki bean breeding program in the future, generating climate-resilient adzuki beans, especially for drought stress, and may be useful for developing biotic and abiotic stress-tolerant cultivars based on better root trait attributes.
