A distribution-free rank test for parallelism of regression lines against ordered alternatives is considered. The proposed test statistic is based on the Kepner-Robinson's transformation. The null distribution of the proposed statistic is the same as that of the Wilcoxon signed rank statistic. But, the proposed procedure can be applied only to four or fewer regression lines. The results of a small-sample Monte Carlo study show that the proposed test is comparable with the parametric test in heavy tailed distributions.
Clinical trials are often carried out as multi-center studies because the patients enrolled for a trial study are very limited in one particular hospital. In these circumstances, the use of an ordinary Jonckheere (1954) and Terpstra (1952) test for testing trend among several independent treatment groups is invalid. We propose a the stratified Jonckheere-Terpstra test based on van Elteren (1960)'s stratified test of Wilcoxon (1945) statistics and an application of our method is demonstrated through example data. A simulation study compares the efficiency of stratified and unstratified Jonckheere-Terpstra trend tests.
We consider sample-size determination problem motivated by comparative clinical trials where patient outcomes are characterized by a bivariate outcome of efficacy and safety. Thall and Cheng (1999) presented a sample size methodology for the case of bivariate binary outcomes. We propose a bivariate Wilcoxon-Mann-Whitney(WMW) statistics for sample-size determination for binary outcomes, and this nonparametric method can be equally used to determine sample sizes of ordinal outcomes. The two methods of sample size determination rely on the same testing strategy for the target parameters but differs in the test statistics, an asymptotic bivariate normal statistic of the transformed proportions in Thall and Cheng (1999) and nonparametric bivariate WMW statistic in the other method. Sample sizes are calculated for the two experimental oncology trials, described in Thall and Cheng (1999), and for the first trial example the sample sizes of a bivariate WMW statistic are smaller than those of Thall and Cheng (1999), while for the second trial example the reverse is true.
In this paper we employ two-sample location tests such as Wilcoxon test and T test for detecting edges in noisy images. For this, we compute a test statistic on pixel gray levels obtained using an edge-height parameter and compare it with a threshold determined by a significance level. Experimental results applied to sample images are given and performances of these tests in terms of the objective measure are compared.
The edges of an image hold much of the information in that image. The edges tell where objects are, their shape and size, and something about their texture. An edge is where the intensity of an image moves from a low value to a high value. We introduce the edge detection using the differential operator with Sobel operator and describe a nonparametric Wilcoxon test based on statistical hypothesis testing for the detection of edges. This paper proposes an efficient edge detection using Van der Waerden's statistic in original and noisy images. We use the threshold determined by specifying significance level a and an edge-height parameter. Comparison with our statistical test and Sobel operator shows that Van der Waerden method perform more effectively in both noisy and noise-free images.

This paper reviews nonparametric statistics by Neyman-Pearson test and Fisher test. Nonparametric statistics deal with the small sample with distribution-free assumption in multi-product and small-volume production. Two tests for various nonparametric statistic methods such as sign test, Wilcoxon test, Mann-Whitney test, Kruskal-Wallis test, Mood test, Friedman test and run test are also presented with the steps for testing hypotheses and test of significance.
We explore the selection of r and s that provides improvement over the Wilcoxon scores under the asymmetric distributions we encounter in practice. We select 0 〈 r 〈 1, s 〉 1 for right-skewed distribution and r 〉 1,0 〈 s 〈 1 for left-skewed distributions from the perspective plots. We also study the association between the desirable r and s and the test statistic for skewness.

One of the major issues of statistical process control for variables data is monitoring both the mean and the standard deviation. The traditional approach to monitor these parameters is to simultaneously use two seperate control charts. However there have been some works on developing a single chart using a single plotting statistic for joint monitoring, and it is claimed that they are simpler and may be more appealing than the traditonal one from a practical point of view. When using these control charts for variables data, estimating in-control parameters and checking the normality assumption are the very important step. Nonparametric Shewhart-Lepage chart, proposed by Mukherjee and Chakraborti (2012), is an attractive option, because this chart uses only a single control statistic, and does not require the in-control parameters and the underlying continuous distribution. In this paper, we introduce the Shewhart-Lepage chart, and propose the design procedure to find the optimal diagnosis limits when the location and the scale parameters change simultaneously. We also compare the efficiency of the proposed method with that of Mukherjee and Chakraborti (2012).

There exist many real situations that statistical decision problems are classified into more than two categories. In these cases, the concordance statistics by the pair approach are mostly used. However, the expression of the classification of categories are ambiguous. Recently, the standardized evaluation data and re-expressed concordance statistics are defined and could be explained their meanings. They have still some non-specific problems for standard criteria of the statistics. Since these can be considered between result and truth categories additionally, two alternative concordance statistics might be proposed in this paper. Some advantages are founded that the proposed statistics could be discriminated all possible cases for two randomly selected categories. Moreover since the proposed statistics are represented with indicator functions, these could be transformed non-parametrically, so that these concordances are used for hypothesis testing.
The purpose for this study is to identify the effects of nonnutritive sucking and facilitated tucking as a pain management during painful heelstick procedure. This study was a repeated measurement design. Data were collected from Sep. 15, to Oct. 20, 2005. According to the criteria twenty seven high risk infants were selected from the NICU of university hospital. The behavioral state were evaluated with the PIPP(Prematures Infants Pain Profile. PIPP, heart rate, saturation were observed without versus with nonnutritive sucking and tucking care. Statistic analysis was conducted with a wilcoxon nonparametric test. The results of this study were as follows. Pina behavior responses in nonnutritive sucking and tucking cases were lower than without treatment(Z=-4.430, p=.000), Heart rate and heart rate recovery time in nonnutritive sucking and tucking cases were attenuate decrease in heart rate(Z=-2.694, p=.005) and statistical significant differences in periods (Z=-4.229, p=.000). But, Saturation was no significant differences(Z=-3.230, p=.000). In conclusion, the application of nonnutritive sucking and tucking as an pain relieg for high risk infants is nursing intervention in pain management ar heelsticks.
