When ships are sailing with large motions in rough waves, the slamming phenomenon occurs and the ships suffer from impulsive pressure loadings. Recently, ships are becoming lager and faster than before and it becomes more possible that the ships experience larger impacts on their bows and sterns. Many researchers have been performing the investigations on slamming experimentally and theoretically for a long time. Most of the research reported in the open literature focused on how to accurately estimate the amplitude of the peak pressure of slamming. According to the results of a recently published work, not only the amplitude of peak pressure but also the width of the peak may play an important role in predicting the extents of damage of impacted structures. The uncertainty of impulsive pressure loadings due to slamming has been indicated by many researchers. However, probabilistic treatments of the impulsive pressure loadings are few. In this study, drop tests were conducted on wedges having dead-rise angles of $0^{\circ}$ and $10^{\circ}$. Not only the amplitude of peak pressure but also the width of peak pressure were measured. Furthermore, the variations of those values are also provided for the probabilistic approach of the slamming problem.

This paper presents the effects of assistant gas pressure on laser cutting. To investigate the effects of assistant gas pressure, pressure measuring system was constructed with good handling and precision at low price. The measured results discussed compare with that of laser cutting of STS304. The assistant gas pressure varied with the variation of distance between nozzle and workpiece. The peak pressure existed at some distance and could be known by using the deviced pressure measuring system. The higher assistant gas pressure helps to remove the dross and the exothermic energy out of the material. The quantity of dross beneath the workpiece decreases and the kerf width narrows at measured peak pressure.
Injected fuel pressure waves of a common rail injector with various current profiles supplied to the injecor were measured using Bosch method. In order to drive the common rail injector, the current in the solenoid should be controlled using what is known as a peak and hold pattern, which consists of a high current level with a short time duration (peak) in the first step and a low current level with a long time duration (hold) in the subsequent step. The current profile can be shaped by swithcing an injector driving power source with the peak and hold waves. The capture, compare and PWM (CCP) pin in the microprocessor was used to generate the combined peak and hold waves. The PWM square wave generated from the CCP pin has a duty ratio of 100% for the peak current and 10% or 30% for the hold pattern. Five patterns of the current profile were generated by combining the peak and hold wave. The common rail pressure is controlled at 75, 100, and 130 MPa. As the fuel rail pressure increases, the variations of the measured fuel injection pressure wave according to the current profiles decrease.

In this study, an overtopping model experiments and three dimensional seepage characteristics at the deteriorated homogeneous reservoirs were performed to investigate the behavior of failure for embankment and spillway transitional zone due to overtopping. The failure pattern, pore water pressure, earth pressure and settlement by overtopping were compared and analyzed. The pattern of the failure by overtopping was gradually enlarged towards reservoirs crest from the spillway transition zone at initial stage. In the rapid stage and peak stage, the width and depth of failure gradually increased, and the pattern of the failure appeared irregular and several direction of the erosion. In the early stage, the pore water pressure at spillway transitional zone was more affected as its variation and failure width increased. In the peak stage, the pore water pressure was significantly increased in all locations due to the influence of seepage. The earth pressure increased gradually according to overtopping stage. The pore pressure by the numerical analysis was larger than the experimental value, and the analysis was more likely to increase steadily without any apparent variation. The horizontal and vertical displacements were the largest at the toe of slope and at the top of the dam crest, respectively. The results of this displacement distribution can be applied as a basis for determining the position of reinforcement at the downstream slope and the crest. The collapse in the overtopping stage began with erosion of the most vulnerable parts of the dam crest, and the embankment was completely collapsed as the overtopping stage increased.
The low-rise buildings with gable roofs are commonly used in a number of industries. In order to study the characteristics of peak external pressure coefficient on low-rise buildings with gable roofs, wind-tunnel test have been carried out. Wind-induced pressures were measured simultaneously at many points on wind-pressure models, typical of simple low-rise buildings with gable roofs, which have seven different roof slope with constant width(D), height(H), and length(D). The pressure measurements were made in one kind of turbulent boundary layer, which simulated the natural winds over typical suburban terrains at a geometric scale of 1/150. The results indicate that peak external pressure coefficient on the roof and wall edges were increased. The results compared with wind standard of KBC-2005 and standards of various nations. The comparative resultant, experimental result appeared very similar at AIJ-2004. But the results were somewhat larger then wind standard of KBC-2005.
The purpose of this study was to analyze of obstacle gait using spatio-temporal and foot pressure variables in children with autism. Fifteen children with autism and fifteen age-matched controls participated in the study. Spatio-temporal and foot pressure variables was investigated using GAITRite pressure sensor system. Each footprint was divided into 12 equal trapezoids and after that the hindfoot, midfoot and forefoot analysis was developed. Independent t-test was applied to compare the gait variables between the groups. The results showed that the autism group were significantly decreased in velocity, cadence, cycle and swing time compared to the control group. The autism group were significantly increased in step width and toe out angle compared to the control group. The autism group were significantly increased at midfoot and forefoot of lateral part of footprint and forefoot of medial part of footprint in the peak time compared to the control group. The autism group were significantly increased at midfoot and hindfoot in $P^*t$, at midfoot in active area, and at hindfoot in peak pressure compared to the control group. In conclusion, the children with autism showed abnormal obstacle gait characteristics due to muscle hypotonia, muscle rigidity, akinesia, bradykinesia and postural control impairments.
This paper deals with the relationships between discharge current wave form and the structure of AC PDP cells. The Paschen minimum can be found in the range of $200{\sim}300\;torr$ under the condition of electrode width of $300{\mu}m$ and $100{\mu}m$ electrode gap. Furthermore, the charge current does not vary with the gas pressure, whereas the time delay in the discharge inception voltage decreased both peak and r.m.s discharge current increase with gas pressure and electrode width.
Purpose: The study aimed to examine the influence of PNF direct and indirect breathing treatments for patients with cervical spinal cord injuries who had breathing problems. Methods: For each cervical spinal cord patient, force vital capacity (FVC), peak expiratory flow, maximum phonation time (MPT), rib cage width, and VAS were measured pre-intervention and four weeks after post-intervention. The indirect method and the direct method were used for interventions. We treated patients with the indirect method using scapular anterior depression pattern, bilateral extensor pattern with rhythmic initiation, and a combination of isotonic. We treated patients with the direct method, applying pressure on the sternum and using rhythmic initiation (hold relax and stretch reflex) for the rib cage. Training occurred for 50 minutes a day and three days per week for four weeks. Results: FVC, MPT, peak expiratory flow, and rib cage width were increased and decreased at the VAS point for rolling after treatment. Conclusion: Patients with cervical spinal cord injuries who had breathing problems felt uncomfortable when they had conversations on a couch. We found that PNF direct and indirect treatments improved rib cage width and breathing functions of patients with cervical spinal cord injuries.
Investigations on simulated near-surface atmospheric boundary layer (ABL) in an open-jet facility are carried out by conducting experimental tests on small-scale models of low-rise buildings. The objectives of the current study are: (1) to determine the optimal location of test buildings from the exit of the open-jet facility, and (2) to investigate the scale effect on the aerodynamic pressure characteristics. Based on the results, the newly built open-jet facility is well capable of producing mean wind speed and turbulence profiles representing open-terrain conditions. The results show that the proximity of the test model to the open-jet governs the length of the separation bubble as well as the peak roof pressures. However, test models placed at a horizontal distance of 2.5H (H is height of the wind field) from the exit of the open-jet, with a width that is half the width of the wind field and a length of 1H, have consistent mean and peak pressure coefficients when compared with available results from wind tunnel testing. In addition, testing models with as large as 16% blockage ratio is feasible within the open-jet facility. This reveals the importance of open-jet facilities as a robust tool to alleviate the scale restrictions involved in physical investigations of flow pattern around civil engineering structures. The results and findings of this study are useful for putting forward recommendations and guidelines for testing protocols at open-jet facilities, eventually helping the progress of enhanced standard provisions on the design of low-rise buildings for wind.

Bi-layer Mo films were deposited on soda-lime glass substrates using DC magnetron supttering. Increasing gas pressure, the resistivity varied from $1\times10^{-5}\; to\; 8.3\times10^{-3}\; \Omega.cm$. Furthermore, stress direction yielded compressive-to-tensile transition stress curves. The micro-structure of the compressively-stressed film which had poor adhesion consists of tightly packed columns, but of the tensile-stressed films had less dense structure. Under all gas pressure conditions, Mo films exhibited distinctly increasing optical reflection with decreasing gas pressure. The expansion of (110) peak width with the gas pressure meant the worse crystalline growth. The impurity levels in the Mo film exhibited highly concentrated Na, Se and O elements due to less dense micro-structure. The degree of Na diffusion depends on the type of the glass substrate used and the nature of the Mo film.
