Maglev using EMS becomes unstable by unexpected big air-gap disturbance. The main causes of the unexpected air-gap disturbance are step-wise rail joint and large distance between rail splices. For the stable operation of the Maglev, the conventional system uses the threshold method, which selects one gap sensor among two gap sensors installed on the magnet to read the gap between magnet and guide rail. But the threshold method with a wide bandwidth makes the discontinuous air-gap signal at the rail joints because of the offset in air gap sensors and/or the step-wise rail joins. Further more, in the case of the one with a narrow bend-width, it makes Maglev system unstable because of frequent alternation. In this paper, a new method using fuzzy rule to reduce air-gap disturbances proposed to improve the stability of Maglev system. It treats the air-gap signal from dual gap sensors effectively to make continuous signal without air gap disturbance. Simulation and experiment results proved that the proposed scheme was effective to reduce air-gap disturbance from dual gap sensors in rail joints.
We have designed a single gap transflective liquid crystal display (LCD) driven by a fringe electric field, in which the LCs are homogeneously aligned in the initial state. In the reflective and transmissive areas, the degrees of the rotation of the LC director are $22.5^{\circ}$ and $45^{\circ}$, respectively. Utilizing this mechanism and an in-cell retarder with a quarter-wave plate that is used below the LC layer, the transflective LCD using fringe-field switching (FFS) mode is realized.
We have designed a single gap transflective liquid crystal display (LCD) driven by a fringe electric field, in which the +LC (${\Delta}{\varepsilon}$=7.4, rubbing angle= $80^{\circ}$) is homogeneously aligned in the initial state. This device is a problem that the voltage-dependent transmittance and reflectance curves do not match each other. Thus a dual driving circuit is required. This study shows that optimization of the rubbing angle in the transmissive and reflective regions solves this problem so that the transflective display with a single cell gap and single gamma curve for reflective and transmissive region is possible.

Extensive investigation on silicon based thin film reveals a wide range of film characteristics, from low optical gap to high optical gap, from amorphous to micro-crystalline silicon etc. Fabrication of single junction, tandem and triple junction solar cell with suitable materials, indicate that fabrication of solar cell of a relatively moderate efficiency is possible with a better light induced stability. Due to these investigations, various competing materials like wide band gap silicon carbide and silicon oxide, low band gap micro-crystalline silicon and silicon germanium etc were also prepared and applied to the solar cells. Such a multi-junction solar cell can be a technologically promising photo-voltaic device, as the external quantum efficiency of such a cell covers a wider spectral range.
Single absorbing materials and Helmholtz resonators have limited absorption characteristics over limited frequency ranges due to their structures and properties. Porous materials are highly absorptive for mid and high frequency ranges, while they have little sound absorption for low frequency sounds. Helmholtz resonators are generally used to absorb sound energy for a specified frequency range. Hence they have limited capability in controlling the overall acoustic properties of a space. Not much has been known about useful finishing materials which have enough rigidity and absorption over broad frequency range, in spite of wide demands from acoustic designers and consultants. The present work measured and analyzed absorption characteristics of a slit absorber by varying surface materials, depths of air gap, dimensions of slat and slit widths. It was found that the narrower the slit width, the larger the absorptions over the wide frequency ranges and the pattern was dependent on the presence of porous material. Narrower slat's width tend to increase the slit absorber's absorption more or less. Absorption coefficients at low frequency ranges were dramatically improved (from 0.23 to 0.56) by increasing air gap when porous materials were present.
On the Transient Liquid Phase Bonding (TLPB) phenomenon with the MBF-50 insert metal at narrow gap (under 100), it takes long time for the bonding and the homogenizing. Typically, isothermal solidification is controlled by the diffusion of depressed element of B and Si. However, the amount of B and Si in the MBF-50 filler metal is large. This is reason of the long bonding time. Also, the MBF-50 filler metal did not contained Al and Ti which are ${\gamma}^{\prime}$ phases former. This is reason of the long homogenizing time. From the bonding phenomenon with the MBF-50 insert metal, we search main factors on the bonding mechanism and select several insert-metals for using the wide-gap TLPB. New insert-metals contained Al and Ti which are ${\gamma}^{\prime}$ phases former and decrease the B then the MBF-50. When the new insert-metal was used on the TLPB, the bonding time was decreased about 1/10 times and homogenizing heat treatment was no needed. In spite of the without homogenizing, the volume fraction of ${\gamma}^{\prime}$ phases in the boned interlayer was equal to homogenizing heat treated specimen which was TLPB with the MBF-50. Finally, the new insert metal named WG1 for the wide-gap TLPB is more efficient then the MBF-50 filler metal without decreasing the bonding characteristic.
Research on ultraviolet (UV) light detection has attracted considerable attention from scientific researchers in related fields. It can be said that it is a very important time to accurately monitor the UV irradiation amount according to the wavelength region in real time. The oxide is very diverse in its kind and has the advantage of being able to efficiently control the band gap through band gap engineering. In addition, it is very stable in response to heat and atmospheric oxygen when UV is absorbed. Also, there is a known method that can effectively manufacture oxide nanoparticles and nanorods through various synthesis methods, and researches for improving the sensitivity of UV sensors have been carried out using this method. In this paper, we introduce the materials that can be used as UV sensors among various wide band oxide materials, and review the results of researches of various UV sensors using nano materials.
Absorbers such as porous materials and panels have limited absorption characteristics to some frequency bands. There is a need for absorbers with high absorption coefficients in a wide frequency ranges to make good response of room acoustics. This is almost impossible for a single absorption material. Composite absorption structure with cover, porous material. and air gap is known to have those wide frequency characteristics. In this basis. various composite absorption structures are measured and investigated as wide range absorption structures. Measurements are performed according to an international standard, ISO 354. Various surface types such as wooden slits, wood/steel perforated panels are selected as surface covers, and also various porous materials such as polyurethanes, polyesters, and glasswools are used inside the covers. Result shows that the area of void parts of surface materials is critical to high frequency absorptions, and thickness of air gaps are critical factor of the peak absorptions of low frequency bands.
N,N'-diphenyl-N,N'-bis(3-methylphenyl)1-1' biphenyl-4,4'-diamine (TPD) hole-transporting layers were deposited using a continuous slot-die coating method on ITO/PET flexible substrates. It is crucial that the substrates have a very smooth surface with a RMS roughness of less than 2 nm for the deposition of semiconductor nanocrystals or Quantum Dots. The parameters of the slot-die coating, including the solution concentration of the TPD, the gap between the slot-die and the substrates, and the coating speed were controlled in these experiments. To obtain full coverage of the TPD films on the ITO/PET substrates (40 mm wide and several meters long), the injection rates of the TPD solution were increased proportional to the coating speed of the flexible substrates. Additionally, the injection rates must be increased as the gap distance changes from 400 to 600 ${\mu}m$ at the same coating speed. A RMS surface roughness of less than 2 nm was obtained, in contrast to bare ITO/PET substrates, at 13 nm, as the coating speed and gap distance increased.
