In a very time, the Internet has affected the lives of millions of peoples. Some serious advances have been made in software development, information exchange, publishing, database retrieval, educational opportunities, commercial expansion, political awareness, and more. But this network of network is still in its infancy. More advanced search concept, World Wide Web(or Web) will continue to help users move boldly onto the information highway. It help user work effectively and efficiently. In this article, we explain how to utilize web to enhance research in Industrial Engineering area.

연구목적:광역권 통근시간 만족도 향상요인 분석에 따른 대중교통 이용 활성화 방안에 목적이 있다. 연구방법: 본 연구는 광역통근을 시행하는 직장인을 대상으로 광역통근시간 및 만족도에 영향을 미치는 요인을 분석하였다. 연구결과: 권역별 광역통근시간에 대한 통근만족도의 경우, 수도권은 평균 통근시간이 높은 만큼 통근시간만족도가 상대적으로 낮으며, 비수도권은 평균 통근시간이 낮은 만큼 통근시간 만족도가 상대적으로 높게 나타났다. 결론:향후 정부는 광역통근 시간을 줄이기 위한 방안으로 급행철도 및 광역버스를 신설 또는 개선하고, 승용차의 이용시간 단축을 위한 도시고속도로 등을 건설하여 통근시간을 줄이는 양적지표도 중요하지만 통근시간의 만족도를 높이는 질적 지표가 더욱 중요하다. 즉, 통근시간이 길어도 그 시간이 만족스러우면 삶의 만족도 역시 높아지므로 삶의 질이 중요한 시대를 맞이하여 통근시간이라는 단순 지표보다는 통근시간 만족도까지 개선시킬 필요가 있어 통근시간에 대한 질적 및 양적 측면 모두 개선이 필요하다.

각종 정보기기들을 공유하여 일원적으로 통합 관리할 수 있는 광대역 정보망의 기술이 요구되고 있다. 이 기술은 여러 채널로 나누어 전송하기 때문에 Computer Network 뿐만 아니라, 화상회의, 원격조정, 원격검침, 2-way CATV 등으로 응용되고 있다 본 논문은 MAN(Metropolitan Area Network), WAN(Wide Area Network)의 핵심 기술로서 FA, OA의 근간이 되며 ISDN의 Subnet가 되는 광대역 지역 정보망의 기술 및 응용 사례를 소개한 것이다.

In order to efficiently manage the coastal and offshore fishing ground, the applicability of real-time monitering was also investigated through a wide-area network of automatic identification system(AIS). The experiment of efficiently managing coastal and offshore fishing ground with a wide-area network of AIS required, on the headquarter's screen, a synthetic display of vessel information transmitted from three different distant stations. This experiment tested the applicability of real-time monitoring with the shown display. The maximum range of detection of the first station in Busan was 24 nautical miles while those of the second and third stations in Yeosu and Jeju were 26 and 52 nautical miles, respectively.

In this paper the consumer protection regulations of 16 wide area self-governments in Korea are studied. Status of consumer protection policy committees and their general policies for consumer protection of these wide area self-governments are also investigated. The data of consumer protection regulation were collected from the internet web-site of each self-government and the status of consumer protection policy committee and the general policy for consumer protection were obtained by requesting each self-government to report administration information during May through October in 200l. 13 of 16 wide area self-governments except Daegu, Inchon, and Jejudo have own consumer protection regulations. Major parts of these regulations conform the standard regulation of ministry of Government Administration and Home Affairs. Many of the consumer protection policy committees reported that they do not have meetings constantly. Moreover since the price of goods and services is the typical subject of meetings, the committees do not seem to properly play the role of a consumer protection policy authority. Contents of the general policy for consumer protection of many self-governments are simple description of detailed practicing plans according to the general consumer protection policy of the national government. By criticizing the problems aroused during the study of consumer protection policy of self-governments, suggestions are given which will help for the development of consumer policy of wide area self-governments.

Recently, information-oriented whole domain and scientific management method for nation-wide territory is widly being used due to the remarkable development such as GIS and RS. In addition to this, request for analyzing forest spatial information has been increasing to manage forest resources efficiently. Although forest information using satellite image and GIS has been built to analyze a large amount of forest information scientifically, there are many difficulties to gather information because normally forest area is large and difficult to access.. This research uses high resolution satellite and digital aerial photograph around Kyungju city area to classify forest area, and stratifies forest area through a spot survey and a comparison of sample area. It will be possible for us to draw a more detailed map of forest area than 1/25000 map of forest area through these works.

In this paper we present an architecture, implementation, and performance evaluation of an adaptive communication system (ACS) for wide-area ATM clusters. Our approach capitalizes on thread-based programming model to overlap computation and communication and develop a dynamic message-passing environment with separate data and control paths. This leads to a flexible and adaptive message-passing environment that can support multiple flow control, error control, and multicasting algorithms. We show the performance of ACS applications and compare them with p4, PVM, and MPI applications.

In this paper, modeling of the communication channel occupancy characteristics at the base station in the wide area radio trunking syste has been performed. Using the results, mathematical analysis for the switching capacity at the network switch has also been done. Specificatlly, we propose a G/M/m queueing model for the single service area modeling, and analyze changes in call blockingprobabilities accoridng to changes in the burstness characteristics of group paging calls. As a result, we have observe dthat the channel occupancy variations become larger as the burstness characteristics become more apparent, to make the call blocking probability higher. Next, based on the single service area analysis, we have anayzed mathematically the average switching capacity required to serve mobile subscribers for a wide area radio trunking sytem, where multiple switching port assignments are required when the people in the same group are distributed over several base stations. Accordingly, we have observed that the average and the variance of switching channel occupancy are closely related to the mobility characteristics of subscribers, and that we need a netowrk switch having bigger capacity as subscribers show wider distribution. Especially, with the call dropping probability within 0.2%, a switch having about 5 to 6 times bigger can be required, compared with the one when the mobility of subscribers is mostly restricte dto a single service area.

The traffic of tug/barges which are carrying construction materials, large plants for harbor development, or offshore structures has recently increased in the coast of Korea. The west and south coast of Korea are always congested due to a lot of islands and traffic concentration. Specially tug/barges have higher probability of marine accidents due to their bad maneuverability than others. Considering the operational circumstance and maneuverability, this study was to develop a wide-area monitoring and control system for tug/barges in the coastal area of Korea. The system was made in the form of three program modules i.e. navigation analysis program module, monitoring and control program module, database module. And seven functions were programmed to monitor and control the tug/barges efficiently. These are ship information search, tug/barge information and track management, designated area and safe navigation zone management, fairway management, accident data management, warning of danger, safety information management.

In this paper we have investigated the guiding properties of photonic crystal fibers (PCFs) with a square-lattice of air-holes in the cladding. We have shown numerical results of PCFs with various air hole sizes and hole-to-hole spacings over a wide wavelength range. The group velocity dispersion, effective area and effective refractive index of PCF have been calculated numerically. The waveguide dispersion has greatly affected the group velocity dispersion when hole-to-hole spacing is about $1{\mu}m$. The effective area is quite flat over the wide spectral range whether the hole-to-hole spacing is large or ratio of diameter to pitch is large. From the field distribution, we found that the field is tightly confined within the core region of PCF when the pitch is $3{\mu}m$ and the air-filling fraction is 0.9.
