  • Structural characteristic of a rice polisher of small size was analyzed to improve its performance and to utilize such data in developing a rice polisher of large size. Spraying characteristic of nozzles which were used for rice polishing was evaluated by a machine vision system. Internal pressure of the polishing chamber was also measured according to outlet resistance, water spraying, and roller shaft speed. In addition, the performance of the polisher was analyzed based on whiteness and broken ratio according to operating conditions.

  • The optimum conditions for durable press treatment of cotton fabrics using glyoxal as a nonformaldehyde crosslinking agent were investigated. Crosslinking reaction was conducted in the presence of different catalysts such as aluminum sulfate, magnesium chloride, or magnesium chloride-citric acid mixture at various mole ratios of catalyst to glyoxal. Aluminum sulfate was proven the most effective one among those used. Glycol addition into a glyoxal padding bath increased the wrinkle recovery angle(WRA) and whiteness of treated fabrics. The optimum mole ratio of glycol to glyoxal was 1:1. Diethylene glycol addition produced better overall performance to the glyoxal-crosslinked fabric compared to ethylene glycol addition.

  • The purpose of this study is to develop multi-functional fabrics by chitosan added on acrylic acid grafted cotton kintted fabrics. Therefore physical properties such as antimicrobial activity, deodorization rate, moisture regain, whiteness, and tensile strength of chitosan added on acrylic acid grafted cotton kintted fabrics were investigated. The results are as follows; According to increased chitosan's concentration, grafting yield was decreased. Therefore thickness of film by treated chitosan added on acrylic acid grafted cotton kintted fabric became thin. FT-IR spectra of chitosan add on acrylic acid grafted cotton kintted fabric clearly showed peaks of COOH and NH$_2$. Antimicrobial activity and deodorization rate of chitosan add on acrylic acid grafted cotton kintted fabrics were increased greatly than untreated. And their durability of laundry were good, Moisture regain of treated fabrics was higher than untreated. Whiteness and tensile strength of treated fabrics were lower than untreated.

  • The purpose of this study is to develop multifunctional fabric that has improved antimicrobial activity and reduction rate of gas by treatment of mixture of chito colla and crosslinking material for polyester. The surface morphology of treated PET fabric was studied by scanning electron microscopy(SEM). The properties of the PET fabric, such as antimicrobial activity, whiteness, moisture regain, water absorption and static voltage, and handle were investigated. Antimicrobial activity of treated PET fabric was proved 99%. The surface of treated PET fabric showed harshness and irregularity. The whiteness of treated PET fabric on the baking condition was decreased as time and temperature was increased. The moisure regain of treated PET fabric equally was maintained. Water absorption and static voltage of treated PET fabric were improved. KOSHI of treated PET fabric was increased compared with the untreated PET fabric H/W of treated PET fabric was improved compared with the untreated PET fabric and 2HB/B of treated PET fabric were reduced.

  • The effects of storage temperature and high relative humidity (RH) on the weight loss, color change, and microbial activity of a mushroom ('Sylvan' hybrid white) were investigated. The experiment was performed at three temperature (5, 10 and $15^{\circ}C$) and four different relative humidity levels (91, 94, 97 and 99%). The weight loss of the tested samples had a highly correlated linear relationship with storage time at each RH level during storage. Both the storage temperature and RH levels in the experiment had signigicant effects (p<0.05) on the weight-loss rate of the tested samples. The loss whiteness of mushrooms was not significantly affected (p>0.05) by RH ranges at the same temperature. No visible damage was caused by either bacteria or fungi in all samples during storage.

  • The surface appearance of zinc coating chromated electrochemically was investigated with the concentration of impurities in chromating solution. The chromium content and yellowness of chromated film decreased with more than 0.1g/1 Zn in chromating solution, while white ness of it increased slightly. The chromium content and whiteness of chromated film also decreased with more than 0.1g/1 Fe in chromating solution, but the yellowness of it increased. Chromium content, whiteness and yellowness of chromated film decreased slightly with more than 0.5g/1 $Cr^{3+}$<\TEX>. But the chromium content and surface appearance of chromated film are not influenced with less than 1.0g/1 Pb in chromating sloution.

  • The study was conducted on the effect of bath composition on the surface appearance, the hardness and the crystal orientation of zinc electrodeposits from the chloride bath. (1) The hardness of the zinc electrodeposits from the chloride bath was increased by suppressing mass transfer of zinc through adding the organic additives and the chlorine ion in the electrolyte. (2) The surface whiteness of zinc deposits was decreased due to the change of the preferred orientation from (002) , (103) to (101) , (100) through increasing the organic additives and chlorine ion in the electrolyte. (3) The addition of Cu, Sn, Ni or Co in the chloride bath elevated the hardness of the zinc deposits but darkened the surface whiteness. (4) The optimum condition of the organic additives and the chlorine ion for increasing the hardness of zinc deposits and preventing dark surface ranges 0.3 m1/1 to 0.4 m1/1 and 6.5 mol/1 to 6.8mol/l respectively.

  • Tetramethylpyrazine (TMP), an alkaloid rich in Ligusticum wallichii and fermented products, possesses multiple pharmacological activities in antioxidant, antiinflammatory, and antibacterial. This study aimed to investigate the effect of TMP (15 mg/L) on the physicochemical and gelation properties of rabbit myofibrillar proteins (MPs) with/without oxidative stress. Results showed that compared to the control, oxidative stress to MPs decreased free thiol content, gel yield, whiteness, water-holding capacity, bounder water, immobilized water, and endogenous tryptophan fluorescence intensity, but increased surface hydrophobicity, dityrosine content, and free water content (p<0.01). Without oxidative stress, MPs treated with TMP increased free thiol content, whiteness, and bound water, but decreased dityrosine content and free water (p<0.05). Under oxidative conditions, all parameters were conversely affected by TMP (p<0.01). The results suggest that TMP can be an antioxidant to decrease the concern on oxidative deterioration during meat processing and storage by improving the oxidative stability, water retention, and gel forming property of rabbit MPs.
