  • This study compared the aerodynamic multiparameters of whispers and phonation in patients with muscle misuse dysphonia(MMD) to evaluate the voice aerodynamic analysis for discrimination between whispers and phonation. Eleven patients with muscle misuse dysphonia were examined. Whispers were shorter with a maximum phonation time(MPT; p<.01), a lower phonatory sound pressure level(SPLp; p<.01), a higher phonatory flow rate (PFR; p<01), lower phonatory efficiency(PE; p<.01), and a lower phonatory resistance (PR; p<.05) than phonation. The subglottal pressure level was not significantly different between whispers and phonation. (Psub; p>.05). The ROC analysis showed that the threshold of 23.83 ppm for PE achieved a good classification for whispers, with the perfect sensitivity(100%) and specificity(100%). Those results indicate PE reliably distinguished between whispers and phonation. The results also suggest that PE may provide a useful tool for studying the laryngeal source.

  • The present research examined the contribution of sounds′ familiarity to auditory distance perception, while attempting to control the influences of unavoidable physical characteristics among sounds. Different vocal "styles" ("shouts", "whispers" and "a normal conversation") of man and woman were recorded digitally and presented from a stationary loudspeaker to blindfolded listeners in a semi anechoic chamber. Playback levels were adjusted to remove extraneous sound level cues. The results showed that the shouting voice was judged as appearing farthest, the whispering voice closest, and the conversational voice was intermediate. The findings suggested that the perception of auditory distance may be affected by past experience (or familiarity).

  • The aim of this article is to suggest that Samulnori will be able to produce better and more lovable language. Samulnori is a good example of the Korean music. Samulnori is originally meaning four-percussion play. Janggu and buk made of leather which were mainly cowskin and dogskin. But jing and kkaengwari made out of brass. Four percussions are an instrument composed of a pattern based on the theory of yin and yang. The principle of Samulnori rhythms are well made up of the relaxation, tension, improvisation, escalating rhythms, and dynamic sound. Samulnori looks like two lovers exchanging sweet words in the natural forest. The push and pull between four instruments like a love quarrel. The author feels that the rhythms of the four instruments are like the whispers and cries of lovers. In conclusion, the silent or passionate rhythm of Samulnori feels like two lovers' tightrope love. The author thinks it creates a rich language of love.

  • In order to save lives by recognizing the deteriorating changes of the patients, patient's assessment and reporting should be foundation, but this task is mainly delegated to nursing students or inexperienced nurses. A whisper game is a game in which the first person whisper selects a word, phrase or sentence and delivers it to the team member and finally confirms how many original message have changed during the transmit process. The purpose of this study was to develop a whisper game program to transmit the information of the children included in the DVD using in the pediatric advanced life support process. After four times of games, the experiences of 31 nursing students in the fourth grade were explored by analyzing the reflective journal. The results of the study showed three themes: learning motivation, metacognitive ability, and situated contextual learning. Repeated practice through a whisper game is expected to be widely used because it has been identified as a fresh and interesting learning method that enables nursing students to metacognize the process of assessing patients and conveying information in the contextual situation.
