  • This paper discusses wheel offloading approaches of COMS which has a single side solar array system for the accommodation of the optical payloads. First of all, in an effort to reduce fuel consumption and reflect practical implementation point of view, thruster sets for wheel offloading are proposed based on numerical analyses taking into account the COMS configuration. In this analysis, it is assumed that the wheel offloading is conducted twice a day. Secondly, in order to evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed thruster sets, orbit simulations have been conducted for several wheel offloading approaches and compared.

  • Vehicle model validation for the static vehicle testing has been done by comparison of the simulation results and test results and the parameters of the vehicle model to be used in the simulation have been adjusted to reflect the measured behaviour. The vehicle model fort the simulation should be validated by suitable tests and/or practical experience. The static vehicle test used to validate the vehicle model are the weight measurement, the wheel offloading test, the bogie rotational resistance test and the sway test. Finally, the computer simulation model has been validated and using the validated vehicle model the acceptance of the vehicle safety of the resistance to flange climbing derailment at low speed can be examined.

  • The ocean and meteorological payloads of COMS are concerned to experience degration of image quality due to the disturbance induced by the motion of moving parts of the payloads. And thruster firings for stationkeeping and wheel offloading are expected to degrade the image quality of the optical payloads. In case of COMS, in order to keep the optical payload free from the mechanical interference from the other payload, the operation design approach has been taken. This paper introduces the operation design of COMS taken to avoid these problems. In order to meet users requirement by avoiding the degradation of image quality, the timeline of optical payloads and housekeeping are optimized, and operational constraints are applied to the mirror motion of the meteorological payload. This paper also introduces the results of time budget analysis performed to validate the operation design.
