  • For three years, from 2014 to 2016, in dental history class, 263 3rd grade students, attending postgraduate dental school had reviewed current problems of the dentistry and dental care system by adopting historical thinking, in forms of essays, editorials, and papers, The purpose of this study is to know whether writing has educational benefits on students. Analysis of the writings and Student course evaluation showed that it is beneficial. All of the students agreed on submitting a qualitative study project instead of taking midterms on 2016. The approval ratio has increased over the years, on 2014 being 82%, on 2015 being 98%, on 2016 being 100%. For that reason, it is not an assertion to deduce that the students have experienced benefits while developing their genuine thoughts on the current status or problems, exploring what their role is, and what they will face. The chronological thinking had been used throughout the researches to identify what Dentistry and Dentist is. Dentistry have encompassed knowledges of natural sciences, humanities and other fields when needed to perfect itself. In doing so, Dentist achieved independence from doctor or other cooperatives. Research on Korean Dental care system has involved in historical thinking, including historical analysis, inquisition, and historical imagination, insight. etc. If the in-depth evaluation consisting of history and writing is sustained, it would be very effective teaching method.

  • AS A SOCIETY, we are in conflict with ourselves about the cost of health care. 1 On one hand, we want the best care possible, regardless of cost. On the other hand, we are not willing to pay the cost of the care we want. Our conflict parallels a flaw in the medical marketplace. An essential condition for achieving an equilibrium between cost and value is that the two must be connected through decisions. When people decide what products and services (goods) they want, they must not only see the value they will receive, but they mast also be responsible for the costs. Because of a variety of features of the medical marketplace-most notably third-party coverage, third-party advice, and uncertainty about outcomes-the required connection between value and cost is severed. The result is what we see. One side of our collective mind demands more services while the other side cries that costs are too high. Resolving our conflict will require connecting value to cost. An essential step in accomplishing this will be to incorporate costs in practice policies. 1 As controversial as that thought might seem (the great majority of practice policies currently do not take costs into account except in the most rudimentary way), arriving at the conclusion is the easy part. A more difficult issue is how to implement the goal of connecting value to cost. Suppose we agree that, in principle, costs should be considered when practice policies are designed, and that an activity should be recommended and covered only if its health outcomes (benefits minus hanns) are deemed to be worth its costs. The next questions are, Who should do the deeming? What should the deemers be asked?

THE VALIDITY OF HEALTH ASSESSMENTS: RESOLVING SOME RECENT DIFFERENCES

  • The purpose of this paper is to examine what is meant by a ralid measure of health. Guyatt, Kirshner and Jaeschke propose that health tests should be designed so as to have one of several kinds of validity: 'longitudinal construct validity' for those which are used for longitudinal research designs, and 'cross-sectional construct validity' for those which are used for cross-sectional designs. Williams and Naylor argue that this approach to test classification and validation confuses what a test purports to measure with the purpose for which it is used, and that some tests have multiple uses. A review of the meanings of validity in the psychologica test literature shows that both sets of authors use the term validity in an idiosyncratic way. Although the use of a test (evaluated by content validity) should not be conflated with whether the test actually measures a specified construct (evaluated by construct validity);' if health is actually made up of several constructs (as suggested in Hyland's interactional model) then there may be an association between types of construct and types of purpose. Evidence is reviewed that people make several, independent judgements about their health: cognitive perceptions of health problems are likely to be more sensitive to change in a longitudinal research design. whereas emotional evaluations of health provide less bias in cross-sectional designs. Thus. a classification of health measures in terms of the purpose of the test may parallel a classification in terms of what tests purport to measure.

  • This is a commentary on what a cancer cell is and why cancer cells metastasize. Normal cell get transformed to a cancer cell, with excessive production of free radicals that mutate the DNA of a normal cell. The immortality and malignant stage of transformed cell is maintained by higher GSH levels. With the faster rate of proliferation, when the cancer cell finds the place of origin is not conducive to its further growth, cancer cell chooses to take the metastatic course. We argue that if we can stop the exit of cancer cell from place of origin, cancer spread can be stopped or even cured.

  • The main purpose of this paper Is to develop the Management Resource Analysis System for KOTRA which is based on Activity Based Costing(ABC). Because the products and services of KOTRA are exclusive and include a government subsidy, we need develop a different system from the private firm's ABC system. The Management Resource Analysis System that we propose is embodied using JAVA and JSP within an UNIX environment and developed as a Web-enabling base. It is expected for aiding a manager's decision-making such as resource inquiry, standard resource analysis, estimating the ratio of a government subsidy, case based reasoning, what-if analysis. The results of this paper suggest what points are to be considered when we apply ABC for Government Investment Corporation.

  • Mathematical basis of interpretation of data from nondestructive evaluation (NDE) methods in bridge inspection is presented. In bridge inspection with NDE methods, NDE data are not assessments. NDE data must be interpreted as condition of element. Interpretation is then assessment. Correct assessments of conditions of bridge elements depend on the accuracy and variability in test data as well as on the uncertainty of correlations between attributes (what is measured) and conditions (what is sought in the inspection). Inaccuracy and variability in test data defines the qualify or NDE test. The qualify or test itself is important, but in view of condition assessment, the significance of uncertainty in correlations of attributes and conditions must be combined. NDE methods that are accurate in their measurements may still be found to be poor methods if attributes are uncertain indicators of condition of bridge elements. This paper reports mathematical presentation of inaccuracy and variability in test data and of uncertainty in correlation of attributes to element conditions with three examples of NDE methods.

  • With the advent of electronic publications, the cataloger is no longer providing access to just the library's archives. This paper intends to describe the concepts, types and characteristics of electronic information resources, and to review some projects and issues related to the cataloging of remote electronic resources, especially field 856(electronic location and access) in the USMARC. In an electronic world, organization occurs in whatever way is needed to provide quick and thorough access to information objects, regardless of physical constraint. Given the issues, it is obvious that cataloging in the electronic world can no longer be done the same as it has been in the past. We must ask ourselves what we want to see in the future of cataloging and what the acceptable norm of organization for the electronic world is if not cataloging as usual.

  • This paper aims to clarify the transformation and housing spatial form of the Port Settlement of Rivershore in Sangbu-village, Samrangjin. The form of site are many fixed forms, has the narrow width of a site and the length is long. Although built as a shop house those days, there is much what changed to the residence now. If the space composition of a residence is seen, it is one building and what goes in and out through the door is common. When a focus is applied and analyzed to the transformation of a residence, position change of formation of the door and an entrance is noticeable.

  • The community sense in the community is the important objectives and methods of Community Development. Community Development has been done effectively through improving the community sense in the community. It is necessary to find out what should lead th community sense in the community. It is community organizations that ate making the community sense in the community, and the community organization is more active by social capital. And the community organization is improving social capital. Therefore the relationship between community organization and social capital is very significant, and the more social capital is high by community organization, the more the community sense in the community is high. Therefore if the community organization is more active, the community sense and social capital in the community are more high. It needs to investigate what variables to affect the community organizations more active. The variables affecting the community organization are community subsystems that are administrative, economic, education, culture, family and religious in the community level. It needs to study in detail how the subsystems are affecting the community organizations.

  • A literature review has been carried out to investigate why bridges have collapsed without warning. The reasons behind the collapses have been categorized into short and long term risks. It is thought that permanent monitoring systems which assess structural adequacy are more appropriate to long term risks. From the knowledge of the Korean bridge stock, its current problems and its likely future problems, it was considered that generally the most useful application for a permanent monitoring system is to monitor where chloride-induced corrosion either of the reinforcement or prestressing tendons is possible. A number of permanent monitoring systems currently in use on existing bridges which include some aspect of corrosion detection have been reviewed. The reasons as to why they are being used, what is being measured, what techniques are being used, and if they are deemed successful has been investigated. Based on these findings, and experimental programme has been constructed to investigate the accuracy, reliability and usefulness of various suitable techniques which could be included in a permanent monitoring system.
